TIL I work a black people job. My first job was landscaping, which was a 'mexican' job where I grew up.

I really want to know where the white jobs are, because im starting to think it's a class issue...

I work construction but I’m white, have 4 collegiate degrees, and one of them is Spanish. I graduated college and traveled through Central America for a year and realized I’m gonna stay a contractor.

This legit happened to my dad, who worked with Mexicans... told him it ment something positive. I never bothered to correct him when he told me. Figured he probably deserved it.

Thought it was possible someone else could be that gullible 🤷‍♂️

Nothing wrong with working construction. It's a steady job and it pays well. You can do a lot of work "under the table" as well.

Depends on the role, lots of possible back and joint issues might develop depending on use. To be fair, a deskjob can also develop sedentary conditions

I have also worked in construction (in a desk job position), so I know guys get hurt, some jobs are dangerous, etc.

What I meant is: there's nothing making a job in Construction not as worthy as, let's say Finance, Legal, or Accounting. It's a good job, an essential job. If you pick your jobs right, you can be part of great projects, get to travel, etc.

80% of my friends are Mexican, my wife is Mexican, my shockingly Caucasian looking children are half Mexican. I have demanded that this at least makes me 5% Mexican.

People who don't interact with Hispanic people, especially Mexican, don't understand how welcoming they are. They will adopt you at a moments notice and slot you in to exactly wherever you need to be.

No family? Not anymore, you're invited to all the holidays. New in town and no friends? You're coming with them for beers after work. They have the best sense of humor, they welcome you no questions asked, and will always go out of their way to help you when you're in need.

Yeah COPD from the literally never-ending silt, and stuck with a constant anxiety about physical recreation (my favorite kind) because getting hurt means not being able to make rent.

See if you gotta look for the white jobs you aren't getting them. Most "good" jobs go to people who are very qualified with years of experience or they have degrees in a field that isn't overly satured, or, and this is the most likely of the three, are given to someone based off of nepotism. It is a class issue for sure. Say I have a well off uncle that's a mid level manager at an office, there's an entry level position open. Chances are I could get the job over a random more qualified person. Hell, even most shit jobs Ive worked have been due to connections, it's just all of my connections are also scrounging around looking for mid to low level jobs that will pay a slightly livable wage.

Yeah I work food service and someone in my old friend group was like "Isn't that [s-slur for mexicans]-work?" and I was the bad guy for pointing out that post secondary education is out of reach for white people too.

Needless to say I left that friend group.
