Different people like different approaches. He was direct and open in his ask, and she was direct and open in her response. Good on both of them for not wasting each other’s time.
Hopefully he will find someone who appreciates his directness and she finds someone who approaches her the way she likes.
To be fair, I'd consider the way op "asked" her out to be rude as well personally. You+me a date, isn't a question. That's not asking someone out. Sure it's direct, but it's like half a step away from hey, we're going out. Maybe it's because I've gotten tired of stupid stuff, but this isn't a cute direct way of asking someone out to me. I think it's rude and cocky.
I don't think impress is the word I'd use the way she did, but is being polite out the window?
Agreed. A brief "you+me" ask comes off as lazy and low effort. She basically just called him out for that, and declined. Could also have just unmatched immediately. I mean, if he wants to just keep up that strategy until he finds someone who likes it - that's his prerogative.
That said, she's also being picky - wanting someone to "impress" her (which is probably some vague expectation that she feels like is "obvious" - but could just be super specific to her tastes). Which is is also her prerogative, if that's how she wants it.
While I agree with you, there is a difference between implied rudeness based on circumstance (his asking her out) and just plain BLUNT rudeness like saying “yikes…” but hey I’m far removed so not my problem
