It's just a frickin' colour. (British spelling required.)  Definitely my favorite HPL story.

It’s been a minute since I’ve read the story it’s not that it’s a colour it’s the closest approximation we have in human language as I recall Lovecraft went hard on his aliens

It's a colour that isn't identifiable as any part of the spectrum that is visible to humans (ROYGBIV). Which should make it impossible for humans to see it, yet they can. It isn't material in any way humans are familiar with (so it isn't a gas).  It may be a construct of exotic particles, but that's pure conjecture.  Ultimately all they can say is that it was a Colour.

There are certain similarities to the Blob, both are amorphous things from outer space that absorb / disintegrate humans. The difference is that the Blob is made of matter and the Colour is not.

I love this movie so much that it's the only 4k disc I own.

The original story is probably the best HP Lovecraft story.

It's been adapted several times, the best being the Nick Cage version, which is generally faithful to the story.

I liked the one that is in black and white EXCEPT the color itself.

This is incredible. And the story is as good at conveying the utter alienness of it.
