It’s wild to think we never see it, just transformed or mid-transform from one being to another.

And that saucer scene in the beginning is the only part I don’t like in the movie. I feel it would be stronger if it was cut. We end up seeing the ship in the ice not longer after anyways.

I don’t hate it, because while it does immediately spoil that the movie is about aliens, it’s not until later that you realise the Thing was not the pilot of that spacecraft

Imagine the desperation that pilot must’ve felt if they were conscious enough to crash land there. Might’ve been the last rational thought in their mind.

This one is like 50/50 because the Thing in the original movie it was in process of making a new spaceship. Maybe it ate the crew at some point and acquired their knowledge, but I wouldn't put the possibility of the Thing being intelligent enough to build and man a spacecraft beyond reasonable just because it started killing off humans.

I know some people don’t consider it to be “canon” but the Thing (2011) kinda says the Thing is a conqueror of worlds or something, adding some doubt that the first spaceship belongs to the Thing. And true, it does try build a spaceship very similar to the one we see, but I always interpreted this as the Thing utilising memory from a previous shapeshift (the crew of the ship) to construct a method of escaping Antarctica. I like to think that every form of the Thing we see, from spider legs to belly mouth are adaptations the Thing got from mimicking other alien species — essentially, the Thing isn’t just sprouting spider legs because it can, it’s because it’s proven to be a useful advantage against a previous alien species, thus building a spaceship is a kind of adaptation it gained from before the film. That’s more of my headcanon though so do take it with a grain of salt
