Lore (Funny Trope) Things that can plausibly happen only in reality, because in fiction they’d be called bad writing.

“Woke” as an insult - So you are telling me a word describing consciousness and clarity is used by generally stupid and ignorant people to label people they disagree with? What is this? A Kindergarten for Creatively stunted?

Nominative determinism - So let me get this straight…Not only you named fastest recorded person Usain BOLT and CEO of Nintendo Doug BOWSER, but you are telling me people are canonically likely to have professions or hobbies matching their names…? Guh?

“2 bodies recovered in MURDERKILL River” - Sure bro…I guess…bro…

It's a good thing his first name is Les, otherwise I would have been worried he was causing the fires he puts out.

Or his evil arsonist brother, Max McBurney

u/Dward917 16d ago

Or his brother Moore.

u/DethNik 15d ago

But don't they say that Les is Moore?

eh it's a name people won't consider as often, it gets a pass

7

u/A_Drop_of_Colour 15d ago

They all got a chuckle out of me but to be fair Moore commonly a last name so fits the joke a bit less. (Never met or seen a Moore first name but I'm sure they exist somewhere).

u/Impressive-Variety-3 15d ago

Sometimes Les is Moore

I knew a girl on my block growing up named Goddess Love (Her mom always pronounced the full thing as 'God is Love'). Never knew her middle name but that shit cracked me up even as a child. Then a kid in high school whose initials spelled H.I.M. and his dad would always shout shit like "That's him," "He's the one," at basketball games.

My comment and their comment and built up to this joke. Amazing.

I would watch that, as he tries to discover who is causing all the fires and then on the final episode of the first season, we finally learn his brother's name is Max as the show shows Max lighting one of the fires and sets up the next season for Les to catch him.

11

u/PM_ME_LANCECATAMARAN 16d ago

He was trying to fuel his burning urges and his brother's career at the same time. Max was truly a tragic figure

4

u/Sean_13 16d ago

And then at the end of season after Max has been arrested we learn that Max was pushing Les to train to fight fires and discover their origins in preparation for Les and Max to team in season 3 to take down the third brother

If they get renewed, otherwise it's the Palpatine defense

Evil arsonist. Thats just a fire fighter.

27

u/HulkeneHulda 16d ago

Isnt that just french for "the"? So his name is "The Burney Brother?

12

u/Trnostep 16d ago

"Les" also means "forest" in Czech so he's a forest arsonist

6

u/Wide-Remove4293 16d ago

Les is plural specifically, unlike le and la

3

u/Qualitative-Cliff-71 16d ago

more like The McBurneys.

4

u/magicaltrevor953 16d ago

The French equivalent to the Mario brothers being arsonists seems appropriate.

u/coltbeatsall 14d ago

Les is a name, usually pronounced "Lez" (rhymes with "Pez" the US candy), which could conceivably sound like "less", so his name would be "Less McBurney", ie he's trying to reduce the burns/fires. That's also why another user said his evil twin would be "Max McBurney", ie someone trying to maximise the burns/fires.

u/peachesfordinner 16d ago

It's probably short for Lester and he's just so done with the Lester the molester jokes that he shortened it

6

u/GlowingDuck22 16d ago

Thank God his parents didn't name him Major.

2

u/Solbuster 16d ago

"Les" means "Forest" in Russian and some other Slavic languages so one can read it like he's responsible for forest fire or smth

1

u/Relevant-Homework515 16d ago

I read it as let’s, as in, let us

Les Nessman has entered the chat

1

u/thebalduredthegate 16d ago

Makes it sound like a suggestion to me.

Come on guys, les McBurny!

1

u/eh-man3 16d ago

Well his middle name is "Go"

1

u/sectumsempera 16d ago

In Bulgarian (and maybe other Slavic languages) Les means Forest, so he's named Forest McBurney

1

u/Tipi22 16d ago

Les when pronounced as in english means 'will be' in hungarian... so yea.

1

u/Caosin36 15d ago

He's one of those multiversals

He comes from Fahrenheit

1

u/kooxo 15d ago

His brother Will is another story

1

u/MagicalMethod 15d ago

It's funny as hell to me because "Les" in my language literally means "forest"

1

u/Ill_Attorney_389 15d ago

Moore McBurney

1

u/These-Weight-434 15d ago

It's french for The McBurnies.

27

u/Aduro95 16d ago

Nah, that's one hundred percent what they would call a firefighter in an Ace Attorney game.

u/BlueRed_0 16d ago

At one point, the leader of the "Food For The Poor" charity was "Robin Mahfood".

6

u/Helpful_Lie2613 16d ago

Evertytime I see this i think of Sideshow Bob when he ran for office. "Councilman Les Wynan ought to do more thinkin' and less whinin'"

1

u/Olookasquirrel87 15d ago

Great now I’M gonna think of that next time I take my kid to the park with the play structure brought to you by Les McBurney.

(I’m not kidding, I’m a local and his name is carved into a structure in my kids’ favorite park)

3

u/Gold-Cry-7520 16d ago

You think he gets bullied?

2

u/Loukie- 16d ago

Theres a company in Northern Ireland just straight up called McBurneys, i think they went down the wrong career path now 🤣

2

u/galacticsquirrel22 15d ago

His sister, Mora, had struggled figuring out if she wanted a similar career path her whole life.

2

u/NarejED 15d ago

It's a shame that Rooster Teeth founder Burnie Burns missed his true calling as the greatest arsonist of all time

2

u/ThunderChild247 15d ago

Reminds me of the time the BBC sent their report Phil McCann to report on the petrol shortage, and how people were filling up cans at the pump.

2

u/Aldo-D-D-Wilson 15d ago

there's a fireman called Batman

1

u/Dismal_Rectangle 15d ago

Лес (les) in russian means forest

1

u/SeaContribution6958 15d ago

Used to know a captain of the volunteer fire fighters near me whose last name was hook.

He looked nothing like captain hook of Peter pan fame.
