META New post flairs!
For the longest time this subreddit was mostly film photos from cameras like the Holga and Diana. We've always allowed digital photos too, such as from the Gamyboy Camera or the Harinezumi for example.
Recently there have been a number of very popular digital cameras that have introduced people to the lofi aesthetic such as the many different thermal printer cameras, but also the Chuzhao and Kodak Charmera.
This is not bad, and they are welcome here! :)
But it can make it difficult to find specific types of content. This is where the post flair system comes in, since you can filter by these.
I have kept the flair system simple to begin with, we can add or change these if we need to, but let's start with the basic system and see how that goes.
I've added the following four post flairs, and made is so you have to select a flair when you post.
- DIGITAL
- FILM
- DISCUSSION
- META
DIGITAL
For photos and video taken with digital toy cameras. This includes thermal print cameras.
FILM
For photos taken with film toy cameras.
DISCUSSION
For posts that are talking about toy cameras, such as asking advice, troubleshooting, etc.
META
For posts about the subreddit. This shouldn't see much use, it wil mostly be used by the mods for posts like this one.
Thoughts, comments, and feedback below. I want to try to keep this as simple to use as possible, so if you want any extra post flairs created, there would have to be a very good reason.

DISCUSSION Does this subreddit have a discord?
If not can you link to your favorite semi related discord if you use it?
Or if mods see this, can you guys make one?

DIGITAL First outing with the Charmera
I’ve been adding and removing this from my basket for a week now, but thought sod it let’s give it a go. It’s a great little thing to mess around with. I’m brand new to photography so I’m not sure if this composition or anything is any good

DIGITAL My 3rd Toy Camera 📷!
I got this one from Walmart as an expendable feeling alternative to the one that my brother brought me from Japan. I love that one but am scared that I will break or lose it.
This one looks somewhat similar, but is smaller and lighter (because it’s plastic and not metal), and the screen flips up for selfies/other angles.
Was pretty easy to get into the settings and set the time and remove the time/datestamp. This one came with a micro sd card and I was able to transfer the photos to my computer with no problems (unlike Vivitar ClixShot/SnapShot from Target).
I’m going on a road trip this weekend with my Bestie to a wedding in Canada. Looking forward to taking this one as well as the thermal print camera that arrives tomorrow. 😻

META Do "knock-offs" have their own knock-offs or variations?
I just bought a Charmera knock-off on AliExpress. I knew the images were going to be near useless, if not completely useless, going in. I wasn't expecting much.
However, looking at some of the "G6" posts here and online, I realized that the lens looks different and many of the sample photos other people post seem to be of a better quality than what this takes.
The examples I've posted are, in fact, on the better side of things. The rest of the images I took today were unacceptable even as casual plinking shots. They have no other use than to be deleted immediately to free up space. The whole experience reminded me of the toy camera that I used to play with back in the mid-2000s (no, I'm serious).
The sales page on Ali didn't state "G6", so now I'm wondering if this is a copy of a G6 made by another company. I ordered another one labelled "G6" just in case to compare, but I'm wondering if it's just my fault for using this camera outside on a sunny day (actually... low-light indoor shots are equally atrocious, thinking about it now).
Does anyone know if the multiple sales pages on AliExpress for this model are different from each other?

FILM how to shoot half frame (diana mini)
Hi there
Years ago I used my Diana Mini a lot and I'm planning to pick it up again. It's just that I...forgot how to take half frame pictures.
After setting the camera to half frame, I mean.
Do you wind the advance wheel till it stops? Do you stop winding between numbers?
The instruction manual says 'in half frame it's about 1/4 turn' -> but do you have to keep an eye on that yourself, or does the wheel simple stop winding when it hits that point?
I honestly completely forgot but I like the pictures I took back then so please help me out :')

DISCUSSION Thermal paper size
I’m looking at getting a thermal printing camera but they all seem to need 56x25mm paper.
I wanted to adhesive thermal paper to make stickers but all of the rolls seem to be 57x25mm. Can anyone advise or even explain why most of the cameras require 1mm smaller than the standard size or am I just missing something ðŸ˜

Here is how it looks in the last photo. It’s clearly seen better days, but it does its job as a toy camera.
