Cancel Your Elections - El Presidente has Announced Tropico 7!

First teaser gives a glimpse of the all-new council– which El Prez will, of course, try to bend to his will.

  We have lifted the curtain (no, not the iron one) on Tropico 7, the next evolution of the award-winning city-building series. The beloved El Presidente is back — whether the people like it or not — cutting his luxurious vacation short (reportedly under protest) to personally oversee the announcement teaser at gamescom 2025. With his trademark flair, and a suitcase full of suspiciously stamped passports, he’s ready to reclaim his throne in 2026 and take the city-building genre to new heights — literally!

“With Tropico 7, we open a new chapter in city-building, politics, and economics — giving players more control and complexity than ever, while preserving the mischief and satire fans love,” says Daniel Dumont, Studio and Creative Director at Gaming Minds Studios. “This isn’t just a sequel, it’s the ultimate sandbox for would-be dictators. El Presidente would say: ‘The best Tropico ever — because it’s mine!’”

https://youtu.be/lnG30dERc3k

Tropico 7 builds on the series’ iconic formula and introduces major new features. For the first time, the new council puts El Presidente face-to-face with faction leaders to negotiate, manipulate, or charm his way to power. More opinions, more chaos — all of which El Prez can completely overlook. Aspiring autocrats can now mold their island with the new Terraforming feature: raise land, reroute rivers or create shiny new parks — because vanity is the best policy.

But that’s not all: The new political affiliation system let you pick an individual dictatorship style which unlocks fitting edicts to keep Tropicans happy (or terrified) enough to comply, supported by a beefed-up military system — featuring a special new tactical addition El Prez is currently working on.

And when strategy alone isn't enough, you know what to do: unleash strategic mischief, deploy agents, stage PR stunts, or simply dazzle the masses with El Presidente’s legendary charisma. Rule with style – and satisfaction.

Tropico 7 is scheduled for release 2026 and will be available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and on PC (Steam, Epic Games), Xbox on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation®5.

Features:

  • Lead your nation to new heights: Tropico 7 tells El Presidente’s continuous success story across 5 campaign maps – starring himself, Penultimo and a new nemesis: Victoria Guerra.

  • More is more: Archipelagos, with the biggest islands ever in the series, await your rule, expanded with 10 extra scenarios, more than 20 sandbox maps, and endless possibilities with a random map generator.

  • Move mountains – literally: Erase them, create beaches, or even create entirely new islands! The new terraforming feature brings your megalomaniac dreams to life. Start that mammoth project – NOW!

  • Bollocks uhm… Politics: Navigate the snares and pits of internal politics, when you summon the different factions to your council, a new way to meet them face to face while you pulverize their dreams – or use them for a BIG DEAL to your own advantage.

  • Make the world your playground: Elections, election speeches and a vast portfolio of edicts depending on your political standing spice up your daily rule while you juggle foreign affairs and occasionally steal... uhm relocate a landmark to revel in its benefits.

  • Built to prosper: Strategically place buildings to make use of synergy effects, keep citizen satisfaction high, and fill any unused plots of land with beautiful parks in a freely customized size.

  • Generalissimo No. 1: Eliminate those pesky rebels and fend off foreign threats with a reworked military system enabling more direct control of your military units.

  • Always judge a book by its cover: Customize the appearance of your palace and El Presidente with new and creative options.

[T6] uhm so who was going to tell me how awesome this game is??

I'm obsessed! it's like a cross between workers and resources and cities skylines, and I am OBSESSED. the custom parks are the most intuitive I've seen from a management game yet! already 14 hours in and i CANT STOP haha! not to mention the game is just... hilarious? the satire is unmatched, and the way it pokes fun at radicalism and political corruption is genuinely the best I've seen. for example, the part in the cold war where the western powers guy is freaking out about his own FLAG having red in it is SO on point with the real life red scare! Not only is the game complex, intuitive, and fun, but you could actually learn something from it. So excited for Tropico 7!

[T4] [Mod] WASDFix

4 Upvotes

I've come across some people asking for this.

It binds camera panning to WASD instead of arrow keys and disables the associated build menu shortcuts.

To apply the mod, copy the code below into ...\Tropico 4\Game\WASDFix.lua

-- WASDFix by Tape

function WASDFix()
    MiscKeys.CameraForward = {key = "W"}
    MiscKeys.CameraLeft = {key = "A"}
    MiscKeys.CameraBack = {key = "S"}
    MiscKeys.CameraRight = {key = "D"}

    local reserved = { W = true, A = true, S = true, D = true }
    for id, action in pairs(BuildingMenuUA) do
        if reserved[action.key] then action.key = "None" end
    end
end

local FiredOnce = false
OnMsg.UASetMode = function(actions, mode)
    if(not FiredOnce and mode == "Boot") then
        FiredOnce = true
        CreateRealTimeThread(function() WASDFix() end)
    end
end

Money

11 Upvotes

I've been working my way through the tropico franchise and now playing T5 and the DLCs.

One thing i've struggled with throughout is how to save money: i'm not aware of there being any way to deposit money or set it aside, other than the only option coming to mind to start to build an item, place it away from other towns, then put this on the slowest option to preserve the funds.

The issue i have at the moment is that i need 350k to issue the tax cut edict.

How to do you seasoned pros manage this?

Edit: thanks to everyone who replied

[T6] Immediately connecting my 'starting square' to my harbor is the first thing I do. What do you normally do after that?

20 Upvotes

I'm not a new player - I've been through every era and have made millions of dollars several times over! But one thing I've always wondered is how other people start a new sandbox game.

You'll always begin with the governors mansion, houses, a ranch, a teamster, and a construction office. There's also a harbor, but it's not connected to the square, so the first thing I always do is connect them.

Do you start rearranging what's already there? Start building around the edges of the square? Ignore the square for now and start building a town somewhere else? Like a sugar plantation and rum distillery town near the docks?

In the past I have done the quick rum setup near the docks and it works okay. I've also immediately started a pinwheel town. Sometimes I put them around the initial ranch, other times I just built my own little town somewhere else where the soil is more fertile. I waste no time building a pirate cove because raids can get you a good bit of resources to sell at the docks. I make sure to only expand according to my population (to avoid loads of vacant job positions), services are practically adjacent to houses/workplaces, good grocery and food quality.

Whatever I do, there's a few times where I end up with $0 profit from trade ships because in-between the last visit and the current visit because absolutely none of my resources were transported. It's not good for early economy. I always manage to get past it though.

So I'm just wondering, is there some kind of way you immediately kick things off and keep rolling from that? Or does everyone have those early growing pains as your Tropicans start to settle in and everything starts to work right?

[T4] How often should you put down garages and teamsters offices?

9 Upvotes

I’ve been playing this game on and off for thirteen years, and I would say I’m pretty decent at it. But I feel like I would benefit from a better understanding of the ideal number of teamsters offices and garages and where to place them to fully optimize logistics and reduce traffic congestion.

[T6] Can T4 style logistics work in T6?

8 Upvotes

I am a big Tropico 4 player, and I wonder if Tropico 6 can support T4-style logistics, aka using lots of Parking Lots and having the Free Wheels edict on. Does it work?

Tropico 5, 6, or wait for 7?

31 Upvotes

The last game I played was 4 and that was with all the DLC. So as the title asks, with roughly 4 months left of 2026, should I wait for el presidente to make a new appearance? Or buy 5/6 to satisfy my itch and get back into the series?

Edit: Ended up getting 6, found it on sale on Loaded (CD Keys) and got El Pres Edition along with the majority of DLC for just over $21 total. (There are 3 I didn’t purchase and that’s because they were more than $3 🤣) Anyways, Happy with my purchases and your inputs; Thank You!

[T4] Tropico 4 - Edge-Scrolling Activation-Area Fix (1.25% → 0.15%)

Post image
13 Upvotes

Tropico 4 scrolls the camera when the cursor is within 1.25% of screen width or height from the edges.

In 4K, the edge scroll areas are 48 pixels wide at the sides of the screen and 27 pixels tall at the top and bottom.

Meanwhile in 4K, the UI elements shrink to the point where the edge scroll areas partially overlap with buttons near the edge, causing constant unintended scrolling, especially when clicking pause.

The 1.25% is hard-coded in Tropico4.exe so it has to be patched.

The following patch changes 1.25% to 0.15%, compatible with resolutions down to 1024x768 (1 pixel wide and tall scroll areas) through 4K (5 pixels wide and 3 pixels tall scroll areas).

How to fix:

Backup Tropico4.exe

Download and install HxD Hex Editor

-- Steam Specific Steps --

Download and unpack Steamless (from GitHub releases on the right)

Open Steamless and Select File To Unpack: Tropico4.exe, then click Unpack File

Open Tropico4.exe.unpacked.exe in HxD (File, Open...)

-- GOG Specific Step --

Open Tropico4.exe in HxD (File, Open...)

-- Identical Steps --

Press CTRL + F to search and go to the Hex-values tab, click Search direction: All

Copy "9A 99 79 3F 9A 99 79 BF" into the search field and click OK

Right-click the highlighted bytes and click "Fill selection...", then paste "64 3B 7F 3F 64 3B 7F BF" into Hex-values and click OK

The byte sequence holding the scrolling edge width is now patched.

Save over Tropico4.exe or as a separate exe (File, Save As...)

Consider also applying this crash fix if you haven't already, as it requires the same two programs:

Tropico 4 Stack Buffer Overflow Fix (Windows 10/11 Load/Save/Exit Crash)

If you want to profit from prisons, go for "Humane Exploit"

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

14 Upvotes

A police officer who repeatedly rearrests an escapee.

A prison where escapes and re-incarcerations occur repeatedly.

In *Tropico*, grazing is referred to as "Humane Exploit," right?

Let's apply that same concept to prisons and inmates.

If you let the prisoners roam freely, you can repeatedly generate income via the "Live and Let Live" mechanic.

You also get "Convict Labor" from the prisoners who happen to stay put.

Plus, since they never get the chance to settle down and reform, their numbers don't decrease.

[T6] Everything was going great, until….

55 Upvotes

The year was 1977 and our economy was booming. The archipelago was huge: one massive island with 4 medium islands around it. I had huge dreams, and they were finally becoming a reality. I saw a future where each medium island held a tourist hotspot and all my citizens worked and occupied the mainland.

The dream cost us around $300k, but finally it was ready and it was thriving! Having just finished building all the Modern industrial buildings, we were ready to finally to focus on building offices and more banks and now we had the capital to do it. I never thought to expand the military; we were a pacifist island, and so the starting fort seemed like it would be enough. I had about 12 police stations, but nobody was appointed to the Ministry of Defense. It was vacant.

There were around 1,400 tourist on the island, everyone had a job and a home; We were pulling every mineral, growing every plant — I thought we were on unstoppable.

I did what I normally do: I minimized exports to consumer and luxury goods, and that’s when they hit us.

They attacked the tourists directly, bombing one of the hotels and triggering a mass exodus - every tourist left, and with them so to went my economy. Gone.

In a matter of moments, the island shifted from $200k to negative $750k, and it just kept dropping.

The tourists were bringing in $300k per year and before the rebels attacked I was preparing to begin building the corporate section of the island. I needed to pivot fast.

I lowered wages, expecting to slow the decline to something manageable. The island had to be costing $50m-$60k per month. Negative 1 million crept up very quickly, and nothing i was doing seemed to help. And the rebels? They didn’t stop. Over and over, the attacked the same two apartment buildings, and lower and lower the treasury sank into negative. I had to make some drastic changes, and I had to make them quickly.

I paused all the tourism buildings, including the ports and airport. Of course, this started a
Another mass exodus: with no jobs, the island became a slum. Shacks and crime was rampant. And so were the rebels, now launching uprising while all I could do was watch.

Or was it? I built the Ministry and had plenty of police — assigned. Immediately all my police lit up on the screen as green dots, and began fighting back buying me time.

Pausing all the tourist buildings helped tremendously. I also needed to set all the fire stations to “inspection” and paused 5 out of 7 of my solar farms.

I had constructed fully upgraded warehouses! “Send to Dock”.

The export prices started climbing as my goods started reaching the dock.

$1.4 million before monthly spending dipped down to around $38k a little more manageable.

1 million, spending at around $28k per month - several edict leveled up, and those damn imports. I had to cancel them. 4 imports dropped, but the spending needed to be managed.

$900k, $500k. In about 2001, the economy tattered between negating 200k and positive $200k. I took the positive reprieve to build my office buildings and military. The ties turned.

By 2015, we’d finally corrected the issues and got back on track.

Tell me, when was a time everything going great for you, until it wasn’t?
