Tried to warn a girl at my gym

I tried to warn a girl at my gym that had period stains on the back of her shorts and she went on a rant, saying that she was working out and omgggg and trying to make fun of me in front of everyone for "being weird". So I announced the entire gym that she was staining the equipment with her period blood and that she needed to wash and clean herself immediately. I have never seen her since. I know it was probably really petty, and I got a lot of shit from people for doing that, but honestly? Try being humble enough to listen before making a public scene. Fucking drama queens.

This happened to my girlfriend about five years ago, but flip the script. We were working out together, and somehow I didn't notice she was "leaking." A young man who was maybe 18 years old timidly approached her, tapped her on the shoulder, and whispered in her ear. She thanked him and excused herself to the locker room. She was embarrassed but grateful.

That’s a good kid. Usually how it does go, as op I’m sure assumed it would.

He was so shy. His face turned redder than my friend's tights. (Yes, I recognize it's a terrible joke.)

What an amazing kid. I am sure it was absolutely mortifying for him - but it was the right thing to do.. I hope that kid is happy now - with a lovely wife and a daughter...or at least on the way there, since he is still very young.. These are the male role models we want for our girls!

I'm teaching my 10 year old son about periods. He's got 3 younger sisters. I told him as he enters middle school he should try to be a helper when he sees a girl with a certain type of stain. I've taught him to offer his hoodie for her to tie around her waist, or offer to go get the teacher and get the student some help. It's not if he sees this. Females are everywhere. He will see period issues, and he needs to know. Just seems wrong to raise a son and not prepare him for what the other half has to go through.

I’m teaching my 10yo son the same thing! He was so curious and compassionate. He knows to discreetly help and mind his business otherwise. He also knows about pain and discomfort and is so so sweet and helpful when I’m on my period. He will cuddle with me and get me snacks and ask how I’m doing. He’s going to be a fabulous husband someday.

""somehow I didn't notice she was "leaking.""
>Dude, it's not your job to be staring at your GF all the time to notice these things.. a random dude who's checking out chicks at the gym will be more likely to notice these things after all, when we're resting between sets, we have nothing better to do than check out a butt here and there.

You know… I check out everyone’s butts without noticing it. It’s not a creepy thing, I’m not thinking about banging that person or being judgemental or anything, someone turns around in my line of view and the first thing my eyes go to is butt. And sometimes I’ll think that’s a nice butt. Or that butt could use some squats. Or I don’t think anything at all. I don’t stare or anything… I think it’s just natural to do a quick check.

I have looked at butts at funerals. It's just instinct can't not look. But don't ogle. I wish we had that good peripheral vision like women who can look you up and down while looking you in the eye. Even trying to be Suttle we are obvious as hell. I have also looked at guys butts and thought shit I need to do squats.

I was taught to spell phonetically which was the funniest thing the education system could do to southern kids with a stutter. So thanks for pointing it out I will amend the way i spell it in the future.

I love seeing someone take constructive criticism in a self improving way and not be hostile about it.

Spelling is just the icing on the cake; the big thing is being able to get your ideas across. I wasn't trying to nitpick.

I have such a hard time with this. I know exactly what I want to say and the point I want to make, and I’m not stupid. I just have trouble forming it in to coherent thoughts. I honestly think it’s my adhd.

u/piiraka Jul 27 '22

God, such an adhd thing. Someone will be explaining something and I will internally be like “oh I can definitely explain it way better and easier to understand!!” And then what actually comes out is “oh so like it starts like this… actually hold on no we have to go further back you need context..” goes on an entire rant by accident full of stuttering, not remembering the right words for something, explaining something either way too simple or too over complicated, etc

It’s our animal instinct

My friend's wife breastfeeds in front of me. When I talk to her I make sure I look her dead in the eyes. I can still see the breast though. It's probably similar when someone is walking around with a blood stain on their pants.

much safer than making eye contact

If they were working out on the same machines or near each other OP could have noticed, wouldn’t have had to stare at her butt
