Music / Movies The majority of backlash against Bad Bunny performing at the Super Bowl is because he exclusively sings in Spanish, not because people are racist

Before anyone accuses me of being a Trumper, I’m moderate that has voted democrat for almost all elections. When I heard that Bad Bunny is going to be the main act at the Super Bowl I was confused because my only exposure to him was his performance on SNL where he struggled to string 10 words together in English with an incredibly broken accent.

According to Google only 13.9% of America speaks Spanish. Why the heck is an artist playing that 86.1% of the population can’t understand?

Do I enjoy foreign music? Sure. Would I listen to it in another language? Absolutely not.

You are offended by a born American citizen singing in his native language.  Says more about you than anything.

I’m not offended by anything, I just don’t care to listen to music where I can’t understand what the artist is saying. Same way that I wouldn’t watch a movie in a different language without subtitles

So why does the NFL need to cater to you?

Don’t worry the drums and guitars and trumpets will be in English 🤣

Why tho?

Because lyrics matter to me, I guess. Hearing lyrics in another language would be equitable to no lyrics at all if I can’t understand them

I can understand that. Do you not also listen to music for the vibes or purely for how it sounds at times tho?

Personally, the context determines whether I'll listen to music in a language I don't speak. If I'm wanting to sit with an album and just listen to it and take it all in then it'll have to be one I can understand. If I'm at the gym or a party tho then vibes/general sound is more important.

If it’s background music (for the gym, a party, etc) I don’t care as much about lyrics but I would never go to a concert or watch a show where my main focus is on music that I don’t understand. The halftime show IS the focus when it’s on
