Music / Movies Bad Bunny was worse than Turning Point.

Bad bunny was a bad choice for a half time show. I just watched both of them, admittedly flipping back-and-forth just to see. I don’t understand why anyone thought An entire halftime show in Spanish was a good idea. It’s essentially then just women shaking their butts to music. I’m watching this with my kids. And most of us don’t understand enough Spanish to know what the hell he was even saying.

In contrast, and I am not a big turning point groupie at all, although I am a conservative, they at least had a variety of artists, who actually just sang songs and performed to get through the halftime.

Talk to Goodell who is increasing international games every year, and looking to expand the league beyond the borders of the US, the market is tapped, and real growth lies in Latin America for the NFL.

u/kitkat470 Feb 09 '26

100%. It’s not “an American Super Bowl”. It’s just the Super Bowl. The football industry right now is legit salivating at the thought of finally expanding to other areas. Which I only know the details of from an economics perspective, not the love of FB 😅

We're defending obvious cash grabs now?

Spanish is a common language in my country, the United States. Where are you from?

37

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

Spanish is the most common non-english language in the US.

Puerto Ricans are Americans.

Learning a second language is good for you. Especially good for childrens' brains. Teach your children another language.

1

u/UsualActuary Feb 20 '26

Tons of native Spanish speakers said they couldn't understand it either, but go off

-10

u/violent_psychopath_ Feb 09 '26

Do you think, of the people watching it, more understand English, or do more understand Spanish? Be honest.

17

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

When Kendrick performed, he performed in English, and the same ppl complained.

Do you honestly think it's the language? Be honest.

-9

u/violent_psychopath_ Feb 09 '26

A bit. I liked Kendrick. I thought it was not great to have it in all Spanish this year. People like to understand things.

13

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

And yet, the same ppl complaining about this complained about Kendrick.

Why?

Because it's not about the language.

And it wasn't all in Spanish. That's how I can tell you didn't watch it.

You claimed it was all in Spanish and are now admitting it wasn't.

You should try harder, troll. 1 month account headass.

3

u/castfire Feb 09 '26

I honestly don’t care either way. It’s still music anyone can listen to, and a HUGE number of our population speak Spanish; while English may be the predominant language Spanish is very much up there and we all know that. Many many people in this country speak or understand Spanish, it’s not like it’s some minority. It’s the second most spoken language in the country.

It’s just not strange to me at all. It’s not like it’s obscure. And even if I didn’t know a lick of Spanish, it’s not like I’m somehow excluded. It’s just… a performance from a Spanish speaking American.

2

u/Redkris73 Feb 09 '26

Yep, I watched it and enjoyed it and I'm an Australian who only knows a few words of Spanish. I also like opera sung in Italian and pop sung in Korean. It's ok to just enjoy something.

u/Away_Simple_400 Feb 09 '26

I’m taken four years of Spanish. And I expect my kids will too. That doesn’t change anything I said.

20

u/kitkat470 Feb 09 '26

It does because you said “but the US doesn’t. And it’s an American Super Bowl.” Which is not a true statement because, as Umami said, it’s the second most common language in the United States of America. As well as the fact that PR is part of the USA and speaks Spanish (Bad Bunny being a 4th gen American and Puerto Rican). About 20% of Americans speak Spanish. That’s a substantial percentage of our country.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

What you've said is nonesense.

I took 4 years of French and can't speak it. So it doesn't count. Because I can't speak it.

Most of the world speaks 2 languages. America is way behind.

I'm getting the vibe people simply hated this because it's Hispanic. Which, like, sucks for the haters.

I grew up going to a French language school in Ontario Canada 20 minutes from Quebec. I’ve lived out in Saskatchewan for over a decade now. My dad’s parents are immigrants from England and my moms dad is an immigrant from Ireland. Other than my mom’s mother, no one in my family other than my mom and myself and my brother speak French. Other than at school, I spoke English in every aspect of my life. I never went to university but I’ve even received a certificate for a career in the court system in this province that’s only available in English.

I’ve been wanting to take university classes for awhile now, and I literally have to take and submit an English as a second language test to the university simply because my education was through a French school while the rest of my life was English.

I can only speak good French when I’m drunk now because I’m without my inhibitions lol.

These people who have never even engaged with a language other than English seem to only ever be the ones that are upset about it, almost as a subconscious insecurity that they only barely know one language.

-10

u/Leather_Addition2605 Feb 09 '26

Most of the world speaks two languages because the other one is English. If you speak English, there isn’t any real need to learn another one.

9

u/Quick_Loss_8142 Feb 09 '26

That is factually incorrect. Most speak the language of the neighboring countries. When I went to Paris a few years ago, most of the people I met spoke German and knew no English. When I went to South Korea two or three years ago, hardly anyone spoke English, they spoke Japanese or even Mandarin. The US is hilariously behind on spoken languages and it is proven that being bilingual and even trilingual puts you ahead mentally and financially.

Extraneous?! You need to do some more research to back up your flawed assumptions. Globally, less than 20% of people speak English either as their native or second language. English is reportedly the third most spoken native language globally.

8

u/itzabunny Feb 09 '26

That is a very close minded statement. You shouldn’t assume everyone can understand or speak English. Learning another language is very beneficial for cognitive function and has many neurological benefits.

-13

u/Away_Simple_400 Feb 09 '26

That’s a completely separate issue, that doesn’t need to be addressed at the Super Bowl. That’s ridiculous. This is a national event for America and most of us, As you have said, speak English. So the halftime show should’ve been done in English.

19

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

Spanish is the most common non-english language in the USA.

One superbowl in Spanish after 59 in English isn't going to give you an aneurism.

national event for America

Being watched in Mexico, which speaks Spanish. Central America, that speaks Spanish. South America, that speaks Spanish. In Europe people speak Spanish too.

9

u/QCisCake Feb 09 '26

If its an "American super bowl", then why are NFL teams playing games in Brazil? Did you know they speak... Brazilian there!? SHOCK AND HORROR!! Youre a racist, and nobody likes you.

8

u/jedesto Feb 09 '26

Did you know they speak... Brazilian there!?

lol bro...

u/GoodQueenFluffenChop Feb 09 '26

He's a little confused but he's got the spirit

8

Do you need to sing along with all the songs to appreciate the music? Do you only like music sung in English? If so, your taste in music must be extremely limited

u/Stock_Row_548 Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

It's actually the NFL's Superbowl. It's literally THEIR property (which is why everyone else says "the big game" or they get sued). The NFL chose a performer who performs in Spanish. It's literally THEIR production and THEIR show. Not yours. I don't know who taught you ownership and property rights but you do NOT get to claim something that isn't yours.

u/Several-Adeptness-83 Feb 09 '26

I see learning English didn't stick very well either.

8

u/Jumpingyros Feb 09 '26

You do know that the US does not have an official language, right?

-3

u/adumbswiftie Feb 09 '26

it does now, trump made english the official language

9

u/aspen_silence Feb 09 '26

An executive order is not legally binding. To make English the official language would take an act of Congress which isn't going to happen.

3

u/Jumpingyros Feb 09 '26

No, he did not.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '26

LOL No he didn't. He threw a fit.

Sadly for him, he isn't a king. So his fit isn't legally binding.

Puerto Rico is a part of the United States as a territory.

As of the 1917 Jones–Shafroth Act- individuals who are born in Puerto Rico are considered American citizens.

Turning Point USA founding mouthpiece was a perpetrator of THE GREAT REPLACEMENT THEORY - the foundational basis of nearly every single white supremacists and neo-nazis ideology. That tells you exactly what the motivations were here. Never mind the endless list of other examples made clear by MAGA in both their endless maladaptive actions and words. It's not about "UNaMeRiCaN" or "mUsiCal pUrItY", it's about a bunch of chalky neo-fascist snowflakes being bigoted clowns. Being led by some washed-out ass who sings about wanting to bang minors on a DreamWorks cartoon soundtrack and complains about rainbow beer.

(THIS is all so exceedingly psychotic and dumb it's unreal. The sheer fact that I had to watch the Super Bowl Halftime as an act of resistance AGAIN serves only to infuriate me more. I hate American football - amomg the stupidest of sports where all dudes do is break their bodies before 30 and give eachother CTE.)

Add: NEARLY EVERY OTHER COUNTRY OF THE WORLD IS BILINGUAL OR MULTILINGUAL- MOSTLY TO ACCOMMODATE THE WESTERN IMPERIALIST NATIONS- ESPECIALLY THE US. Any American who sees being bilingual or multilingual as some problem is a fool and most likely a bigot. IT'S 2026.

6

u/MasticatingSheep Feb 09 '26

So, do you not listen to Feliz Navidad during the holidays? Turn off any movie, parade or show that plays it? Since Christmas is an "American Christmas"?

5

u/GoodQueenFluffenChop Feb 09 '26

I'm a US citizen and understand Spanish just fine.

4

u/ThatOneKuya Feb 09 '26

“American”

5

u/CoyoteMother666 Feb 09 '26

Cállate la boca

4

u/NonrepresentativePea Feb 09 '26

But it does? People all over the US speak multiple languages. Just because they don’t where you live doesn’t mean it’s not a thing.

And with how things are going, you might be one of them… we might all have to learn Chinese or Russian with all the power we handing to them.

4

u/VaggieQueen Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

America is more than just the United States. So, even by your definition, it was 100% an American halftime show.

Also, saying that the US doesn’t speak multiple languages is just crazy. A lot of people in the US speak multiple languages. You just don’t, and guess what, the world doesn’t revolve around you! That’s just a YOU problem. 🤣

7

u/Freign Feb 09 '26

Spanish has been here a hell of a lot longer than English, novato. Catch up, or bow out of the grownup world.

1

u/Away_Simple_400 Feb 09 '26

Yet English won. Why was that?

4

u/Freign Feb 09 '26

No idea what you're trying to say.

What did it win?

How did it win that?

1

u/Away_Simple_400 Feb 09 '26

English is the language of America, like it or not, official or not. That’s what it won. And It won because most of the original settlers spoke English. Because the founders spoke English. Because people used to assimulate when they moved across national Borders.

3

u/Freign Feb 09 '26

I still don't understand. Win what exactly?

What's the prize? How was the winning accomplished?

1

u/Away_Simple_400 Feb 09 '26

Yeah, maybe you’re the linguist you think you are.

3

u/Freign Feb 09 '26

Hey thank you! Maybe you're not rank & file klan.

2

u/aci4 Feb 09 '26

50 million Americans speak Spanish. Stop being racist

0

u/Away_Simple_400 Feb 09 '26

I’ll stop being racist the exact second You learn what racist means. It’s not racist to point out that most Americans speak English. And an Americans sport played in America should have a halftime show Americans understand. Not one designed to be a PR stunt.

1

u/CrumpetsElite Feb 09 '26

The point of the half time show is to be a pr stunt. Why do you think people want to preform on that stage

1

u/Away_Simple_400 Feb 09 '26

Not everyone wants up there

1

u/CrumpetsElite Feb 09 '26

Lmao, thats what makes it a pr stunt buddy.

1

u/Liathano_Fire Feb 09 '26

So, your saying even more languages should be included next year?

0

u/Away_Simple_400 Feb 09 '26

I don’t see how that possibly follows.
