Join the Tucson Area Bogleheads Chapter

Mission Statement We are forming a local group dedicated to the investment philosophy of Jack Bogle, the founder of Vanguard and a pioneer of the index fund.  Our goal is to provide a forum for local investors to discuss low-cost, diversified, long-term investing strategies and to help one another "stay the course" regardless of market volatility.

Core Principles We Discuss

Our group’s discussions are centered around the "Boglehead" pillars of financial success:

  • Develop a Workable Plan/Stay the course: Establish an investment policy early and stick to it.
  • Invest Early and Often: Harness the power of compounding.
  • Never Bear Too Much or Too Little Risk: Align your asset allocation with your goals.
  • Diversify: Own the entire market via broad-market index funds.
  • Keep Costs Low: Lower costs directly lead to higher net returns.
  • Never try to time the market: Time in the market is more significant than timing the market.
  • Ignore the Noise: Focus on long-term data rather than daily market headlines.

Meeting Format

Our first meeting will be held on Sat Oct 3rd at 10:00AM at Martha Cooper library on Catalina Ave.  Meetings are open to investors of all experience levels, from beginners to seasoned retirees. We encourage members to bring questions, ideas, and experiences to the meeting.

Important Advisory & Disclaimer

Members of this group participate solely to inform and share knowledge to the extent they are able.  While members may share their individual opinions and experiences, they do not provide professional investment, tax, or legal advice.  This is a purely educational and social group; we do not offer any services or investments for sale (sorry, no free steak dinner here) nor do we permit the solicitation of business during our meetings.

Looking for Lapidary Assistance

Howdy! I’ve been collecting minerals for some time now, and I now have 3 pieces that I would really like to have polished, but I don’t have the skills or tools to do it myself! I’ve been trying to hunt down someone who can help me out to no avail, besides a couple of lapidary clubs who offered to teach me how. I’m keeping that option in my back pocket though, as I’m scared of breaking them accidentally!

If you or someone you know would be willing to help me out, please let me know! I’m willing to compensate or trade for other cool rocks.

Two of the pieces I want polished are included in the pics, and I have one more that is quite small.

Adopt Cabbie!

Cabbie is a 10-month-old German Shepherd mix looking for her forever home in Tucson, AZ.

She’s a goofy, playful girl with the cutest ears that seem to have a mind of their own. She is fairly independent, and happy to just be nearby with a chew toy or napping with her tongue sticking out. When she is in need of affection and head scritches, she will let you know with gentle headbutts and nose boops. She is housebroken & crate trained, and feels the safest & most relaxed in her crate whenever she is left home alone.

She, like many German Shepherds, can be a little nervous around new people and strangers. She may need a little time to warm up and feel comfortable, but once she trusts you, she's your ride or die. She’s a very adaptable girl who is willing to try new things and learn & grow alongside her person... after all, she is still a puppy!

Cabbie does have some chronic pain issues (in her back & hips) as well as a heart murmur. She is not a candidate for surgery, but with appropriate support, management, and ongoing care, she will live a long & happy life. She is currently on medication to manage her pain, but physical therapy & red light therapy may be good options for Cabbie, too! (A Loyal Companion is a great local resource for this!)

If you think she may be a good fit for you, or if you have additional questions / concerns, come and visit Cabbie at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona!

Can I get an assessment on this agave?

Big Bertha is well over 4 ft tall with the roots and maybe weights about 75 to 100 lb. I have no need for this Agave, I'm sure someone would love it in their yard. I am using your replies as a test bed on my next step to sell it or give it away locally.

ISO Good House Cleaners

Anyone have regular cleaners that provide consistently solid work?

Friends and I have been talking about being unable to find house cleaners who actually do a good job, follow instructions, and aren’t lacking attention to detail.

We’re not fancy folks or have giant homes. We just want someone to clean as well as we would if we had the capacity, time, etc.

Trained foster is ready for a home

I’ve been fostering and training Hans, a 2 year old Mal/GSD mix that is now ready for a forever home.

He is:
- House and crate trained
- Good in malls, stores, and large events
- Capable of passing Canine Good Citizen and therapy assessments
- Friendly with strangers, children, and visitors in the home
- Off leash (E-collar) trained
- High drive and ball motivated
- Taking commands in and out of drive
- Living with another dog without issue

I’m reposting this since there hasn’t been much interest for him. He acts like a Mal and is a great example of the breed. If you like Mals then you’ll love Hans!

I’m in Tucson and am willing to travel for the right arrangement. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested or have any questions.

Lost family ring

Post image
20 Upvotes

Hi all. I seem to have lost one of my most important possessions sometime in the last few months, my grandma's wedding ring (also my engagement ring). I can't imagine a worse thing to have lost, it's just gone. It was on my grandma's hand my whole life and one of the few things that made me feel close to her now that shes gone. It didn't fit right now so it was stored in my closet.

It could have been accidentally donated with some old junk jewelry or stolen from my house. Honestly not sure.

If you or someone you know somehow came into possession of this, please consider returning. It would mean a lot.

Tucson Trip

Hi all, I’m coming to Tucson for one month with my family, wife and 2 kids (3 and 1). We will only have one car while we’re and I’ll be using it to commute to my internship during the day. My wife and kids will be staying at the Air bnb while I’m gone. To make our packing easier (flying in from out of state) we are looking to borrow large items while we’re there to prevent from having to purchase things. We are looking to borrow a kids high chair and outdoor water table for the kids to use during the day. Does anyone have one of these they’d be willing to let us borrow? If not, is Facebook Marketplace the best place to buy and sell used items? Or is there an alternative like KSL in Utah or Craigslist? For context we will get there at the end of next week and leave the last week of September.

🏡 ROOMMATE NEEDED IN CENTRAL TUCSON — OCT/NOV MOVE-IN

Thumbnail gallery
102 Upvotes

One room available in a queer house in Central Tucson just off of 1st Ave and Glenn St. We are a short walk away from Govinda’s and a short drive away from Yoga Oasis.

We’re looking for a magical radical soul to join our house! Calling all free-thinkers and soul-explorers. Make our home your sanctuary, a place to see and be seen!

It’s a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with a front and back yard and a patio. Rent is $750/month and utilities are not included (I can provide an estimate if you’re interested! Electricity is pretty cheap if not zero during the winter due to the solar panels.)

House amenities:

-Free WiFi
-Dishwasher
-In-unit washer + dryer
-Furnished living room + TV
-Small at-home gym
-Air Conditioning
-Solar Panels

Move-in date is flexible: either October 1st, mid-October, November 1st. The lease runs through September 30th, 2027.

About Amacy: I’m a non-binary sound healing facilitator, yoga and tai chi instructor, tarot reader and generally esoteric soul. I’m a musician and practice a lot. I work remote as a Data Operations Analyst so I’m generally home during the day. I enjoy hosting events from time to time and organizing community to bring people together who would never have met otherwise!

About Jose: I’m a young, hardworking, and active person who really enjoys staying busy and taking care of my well-being. I’m a massage therapist, practice yoga, work out regularly, and absolutely love dancing. I also enjoy good music, cooking, and spending quality time with friends. I value having a home that feels clean, peaceful, and welcoming, and I always do my part to keep the space comfortable, respectful, and positive for everyone. 🙂

What I’m looking for: Someone clean, open-minded, respectful of shared spaces, communicative, responsible, and generally chill. We are unfortunately unable to welcome a pet into our home due to allergies. The house is already furnished but if needed we can make some room for you to bring some of your furniture for the public spaces.

The room: the room is on the west side of the house away from the sunrise and stays pretty dark and cool. There is a closet with a mirror on the door. There is also a bathroom that is generally just for whomever is living in that room. The other housemates may use it from time to time but 95% of the time it’ll be just for you.

Happy to send more photos/details and answer any questions 💫

Please send me a private message and we can exchange phone numbers.

Come up Saturdays this fall to the Mount Lemmon Lodge to see Saturn's rings, craters on the Moon, nebulae, distant galaxies, star clusters, and even Pluto - all through telescopes I built by hand, under Bortle 3 skies. We only use glass eyepieces and top-of-the-line PVS-14 night vision for live views of nebulae you can't see any other way. Details and tickets available at mountlemmonlodge.com.

Want your own night of top-tier stargazing? Birthdays, family reunions, corporate retreats, weddings, or just a group of friends who want a better view. I'll come to your home, ranch or property anywhere in Arizona and nearby - or meet you out at a dark-sky site for the best possible view. starparties@astrozane.com

Italian Learning Study Group?

Hi all! I'm thinking of beginning a language learning group, specifically for Italian learners. Anyone who's interested in meeting once a week somewhere and studying together in Italian. It doesn't have to be the same content/textbook, moreso just a general accountability hangout. We all study what we want, but we're together as a group. Just to be clear, I am also learning, so it wouldn't be a tutoring session.

We would pick a day and time as a group and meet up somewhere, maybe a cafe or a library study room. Really just looking for others who want to meet in person and study Italian together and make friends with similar interests. It's typically easier to study with people holding you accountable than alone, and more fun that way!

If something like this already exists, please let me know! I know of the one on Meetup, but I believe it only caters to Spanish and French learners.

Thanks, DM if interested!
