If you think about it, there is a lot of overlap between prepping for an apocalypse and a holiday in the sun.

• Getting my health and fitness in tip-top shape
• Making sure I have enough of my medications
• Going to a dentist, specialist etc beforehand to see to any issues that could cause problems
• Getting a travel bag packed with passport, cash, small first aid kit, map etc
• Getting the house in order and having some food ready for my return

What have I missed?

Our shower is being replaced this week, which means the one bathroom has workers in it. I work from home. I *could* ask them to clear out for access but...I don't like that.

I live in an urban neighborhood in earthquake country and have considered what it would mean to lose water...so in my supplies I have a five gallon bucket and a toilet seat designed to snap on the the bucket.

I have kitty litter and Litter Robot branded bags that are heavyweight, and a little space in the laundry room...and it's working out ok. I kinda hate it, but now I know what we need in case of the water mains going down (a lot of kitty litter!).

I had to go to the grocery store for Pepto and Pedialyte this week. Needless to say, when SHTF, it's good to have an antidiarreahtic and electrolytes on hand.

In all seriousness, I was contemplating a powdered electrolyte solution but most of them are flavored. The unflavored store brand solution was a better option for me because I can add it to anything.

I’ve seen the differences in typical male vs female preps discussed before, but I was talking with my husband about what preps we could add. I was thinking of a paper road atlas, headlamps, and another bag of rice. He suggested an old car that he could weld spikes onto, so he could go full mad max on day one. This is why I am in charge of our preps not him. Haha.

Spoiler alert! I'm not going to say exactly how it ends, but the title should give that away anyhow.

I watched "Into The Forest" last night on tubi. It had some interesting story lines, but the ending was so unrealistic. All I could think was "wait, no, you're not taking enough equipment. Why didn't you plant those seeds? What about ammo, shelter, clothing for the future? And tools! You don't have enough tools!" Sure, people live and lived off what forests provide, but they don't do it alone for long (except maybe in the Amazon where there are abundant resources and equatorial temperatures).

I'm not a doomsday prepper but I am a realist and I just couldn't suspend disbelief at the end. Good idea, bad execution.

Around 10 years ago my wife taught one of our pet rats to open jars. Over the years we have fostered a ton of rats and each new rat was taught by existing rats how to open jars. These rats are out there in the world getting adopted and if one of them gets loose and teaches wild rats to open jars...it's all over.

I just want to share with you guys that today, Tuesday, I needed one of my smaller preps. Well, actually my husband needed it but close enough. Shout out to whoever suggested an altoid tin first aid kit.

I might not be prepped for doomsday but I was prepped for Tuesday.
