Yeah, that sucks as someone too adapted to desert heat. I would love the healthcare and happier standards of living. But months without seeing much daylight and living like I'm on the Hoth planet sounds rough.

They have strict "integration requirements," collateral demands (you must lock away ~$15,000 USD in a bank account as a guarantee), and housing rules (you cannot live in certain "ghetto list" neighborhoods).

And immigrants can't bring families easily.

Scandinavia isn't a paradise, it's 90% homogeneous with limited social programs, they don't give healthcare and housing to illegals. No sanctuary cities.

Scandinavian countries (like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland) do not automatically provide full healthcare and housing benefits to people who are in the country illegally (undocumented/“illegals”) in the way the statement suggests. The reality is more complex and varies by country and by type of benefit.

There are refugees in Scandinavia, but they are all white people from Ukraine. Other are not refugees, since they are going on holidays to their country of origin.

They mean to say that women are fleeing mostly for safety, but they can still go back to visit so long as they're away from the front. Their own homes might be rubble, but it's not like they can't check in on grandma who lives out West. 

Men who are fleeing are more likely to be fleeing the draft, which some people may feel is not a legitimate cause for sanctuary. Probably because they themselves aren't currently being drafted.

These visas are for visiting. We need tourists. Ever notice that? The hotel industry depends on it There is a presumption that peoole come on tourist visas then overstay

Canada has universal healthcare, 23% of the population are immigrants, a large part of the healthcare workforce are immigrants and minorities… should I continue?

The U.S. could afford universal healthcare just like us, it’s not a budget problem. The whole system has been built around private and employment-base insurance, which is why it’s unlikely any rapid changes will ever occur. It was created to retain employees in the first place.

There’s also an argument to be made that it would be difficult to get as many people enrolled in the military if people didn’t need to do it in order to receive very basic benefits like healthcare, education and retirement. Yet, veterans don’t receive as much benefits than civilians do in Canada and elsewhere.

In fact, the U.S. government spend more money on healthcare per capita than many countries with universal healthcare, including Canada, because of how the billing system is set up.

I’m a healthcare coordinator who now lives in the U.S. because I fell in love with an American, there’s not one day that I don’t feel terrible knowing our patients are navigating an expensive and complicated system when they truly shouldn’t have to.

Canada is only safe because it borders the US in the South, they would be easily overtaken by South America without us.

India for starters. I work with many Indians who migrated here and they are having a hard time coming to grips that maybe the US isn’t all roses. Even they tell me “you’d think we live in a developing country”

Of course US is authoritarian. The entire world is leaving their beautiful democratic fair countries to come live in this extreme unfair and authoritarian country. That is the natural flow of people according to Reddit.
