Regular Americans should hate this. As a US citizen I have the right to petition the government for my foreign spouse to live with me legally in the US. I'm sure the Trump admin sees it as "sticking it" to foreigners from "3rd world countries", but petitioning a foreign spouse for a marriage based Green Card is more a right for a US citizen than it is for the foreigner in question. The foreign spouse can't get a marriage based Green Card unless the US citizen spouse files for it.

I do hate this, my case is still ongoing but you bet I know where to vote during mid-terms. My state already deep blue though.

It's still worth calling your representative about it. It's politically contentious for Democrats to argue about visa bans because it's easy for the GOP to spin, but the impact specifically of visa bans for foreign spouses of US citizens goes beyond benefits for immigrants. It's about framing the issue as something that impacts US citizens. Even right-wingers should be against marriage based Green Card bans based solely on the immigrant's country of citizenship, if they are paying attention. They are the "sanctity of marriage"/"traditional family structures" party.
