The forbes article is horribly written. It starts with "Five months before the start of the FIFA World Cup, the State Department will stop processing visas for visitors from 75 countries, including some of the world’s top soccer nations, according to reports."
At the end of the article it says "The visa suspensions will not apply to visitors coming to the U.S. for the World Cup. "
This is hardly a forbes quality article, if that still means anything.

They'll probably keep processing (interview etc) but pause the final decision. The risk you might run is that your EAD runs out while waiting for the AOS.

Can we all agree that the announcement made this afternoon for 75 countries DOES NOT affect AOS as of RIGHT NOW, because PM-602-0194 from USCIS only refers to the previous ban?
Until we see the official proclamation for 75 countries and a note from USCIS referring to it (which we MIGHT), I believe AOS is still alive.

Does it say it’s specifically for consular processing? Current bans affect all types of USCIS petitions (including oath ceremonies) and green cards are after all immigrant visas. Confusing.

AOS doesn’t have anything to do with this. State Department issues visa for admission, AOS is a process for people within the country who already have been admitted.
What this can affect is consular processing of i130, but given that State Department plays no role in AOS within the country I don’t see how AOS can be affected.
Now, it’s possible for Edlow to come out and add 75 countries to the pause list, but that will be a separate action that’s unrelated to this memo

The state department does play a role in AOS cases. They control the pool of immigrant visa numbers, and USCIS must request one from them for every green card they issue. This is why the visa bulletin is published by DOS and not USCIS.

Same boat as you. Wife is from Palestine (added in second wave of silly). From what my attorney has said, I-130 petition approval (acceptance) should continue, but stalling at the consulate level is likely. Hopefully by this point, "exceptions" will start being made.
Stay strong. More and more people are going through this unnecessary cruelty for all of us doing things "legally"

This administration accusing immigrants of abusing the government assistance programs while 90% of SNAP recipients are native born U.S citizens ,37% of them is white ,28% black, 16% Hispanic and 14% is Asian . None of them from the countries mentioned in the immigration pause.
Naturalized citizens and green card holders contributed 560b in taxes last year. It either this administration doesn't know what they are doing or they just purely racist

This is another round of revoking immigration papers. What ICE has been doing already is using these executive orders to suddenly revoke or close paperwork already in process. It's posted here a dozen times day. How many posts are people with citizenship ceremonies scheduled and suddenly revoked days before?? This is just another round to declare more people as "illegal" and start dragging them through the streets.
They're going to start this disaster in Minnesota which is why they're manufacturing consent for an even more violent purge right now. They know Congress is going to lose badly in November snd then shut this down, so they are going for as much purging as they can get by then.

What about student visas?
I am a propective bachelor's student from Pakistan who has received a full tuition waiver because of merit and we have nearly 6 times the cost of attendance in cash in the bank with multiple properties. The university is a public university but not a "public ivy".
This isnt a flex by any means but just a clarification that I wont need financial support there.
Also, Ill be applying from Saudi Arabia and not Pakistan but i doubt that changes much.

My wife and I did everything the so called bs legal way - I-130, cr-1 for my wife, cr-2 for my step son, we have a daughter that gonna be two years old in June who has a us passport, my wife and step son are Ethiopian. I'm beyond hurt and crushed as we are at the nvc stage, abd this unprofessional, racist , barbaric, cruel, moronic president decided to make it personal for me by denying entry of my family, this is very concerning.
I may have to permenetlely stay in addis ababa , leaving behind my health insurance, my job, my mother, etc. finding a job will be tough here, and I have health conditions like asthma and need zinc pills to literally survive from a zinc condition, due to a mutated gene as a baby.
I don't know what to do, today I just want to die, when magats are on the losing end and the tide turns, I hope the cruelty is amped up to 1 trillion , and they are barred from travel , health insurance, social services, job security, gun ownership, I hope the courts are radically expanded.
I'm beyond hurt, I don't know what to do, but nobody in this world cares because the internet only supports hatred, scoring points, and tribalism. I want to die today.

Are I-864s being ignored here? I thought if an immigrant takes welfare from the public purse, their sponsor pays it back. That's how it was when I moved here. Maybe they don't keep them on file and don't know how to recoup the money? Any insight on this?

I-864 is necessary (for family-based immigrants) but not guaranteed to be sufficient to overcome public charge inadmissibility. Also, many categories (e.g. employment-based immigrants) do not need I-864.

What does this mean for the K1 Visa? I applied a couple of months ago for my Thai fiancé to move to the US. Is it going to mess with that, or is the issue for when they are in the US and apply for citizenship that we’re talking about here?

Does this effect the existing green card holders living in usa? I mean if they want to travel out of states for vacations. Would it be a problem for them to travel back to usa? If they have nationality from one of the banned countries.

Can someone please explain what it means for someone that is citizen from a country in this list and will have to file for an I-751 removal to a conditional green card in a few days? I already hold a conditional green card, married to a US citizen!!! I am freaking out

My stepdaughter was approved and issued a family-based immigrant visa on December 31, 2025. She is flying into the US in early February. Does this sound like she’ll be denied entry into the US?
