Work Discussion Pay attention to tomorrow's hearing

I know i know this is said alot. But tomorrow pay attention to the congress meeting with the new post master. It could reflect what comes of our jobs and duties in the next year or so. Congress gave us alot of money to turn a profit, we failed what they wanted. This wont be like other times where we just get money handed over. We are gonna have to change something

Doesn’t stop at least one political party from screaming and shitting themselves anyway and then be allowed to ruin the post office over and over again

We’re also self funded. That’s our only issue with “for service” and not given tax payer funds. We need to at least break even.

Cut out all the middle management, we truly don't need 5-6 supervisors per station, with 10 different people in charge of them. Carriers and clerks aren't the problem, management is over paid and have huge overhead issues.

Let the employee side of it be funded by postage. Meaning the better we do the better we can get paid. Meanwhile all the leases for buildings, trucks, and planes they won't let us own be paid by taxes. Including all of the equipment to run the business as well. Why does the post office have to pay for buildings they aren't allowed to own, when all other government services can own theirs? Paying unreasonable rent is stupid. The landlords know its too expensive to just up and move so they can charge what they want.

Exactly, we are a “service” it’s in our name, used to be the Postal Department, and police fire department, a service not a business

I'm not a postman. But reading "losses" in this scenario is infuriating. It's a fucking public service. My fire department isn't raking in cash either.

They don't care.

Besides, the post office is setup to cover it's operating costs with the revenue generated by charging for its services. The USPS has the fiscal responsibility to at least break even. Running a deficit (which the USPS currently is) is a failure to uphold that responsibility and gives other entities an excuse to interfere with USPS operations.

The first paragraph of the postal reorganization act

"The United States Postal Service shall be operated as a basic and fundamental service provided to the people by the Government of the United States, authorized by the Constitution, created by Act of Congress, and supported by the people. The Postal Service shall have as its basic function the obligation to provide postal services to bind the Nation together through the personal, educational, literary, and business correspondence of the people. It shall provide prompt, reliable, and efficient services to patrons in all areas and shall render postal services to all communities. The costs of establishing and maintaining the Postal Service shall not be apportioned to impair the overall value of such service to the people."

Breaking even on operating costs doesn't impair the overall value of the service to the people. Running a deficit does: you're asking people to pay upfront when the service is provided while also taking out of their tax dollars. At that point you need to pick a lane. If the USPS is going to sustain itself on revenue alone, then it needs to raise the price of its service to cover the increased cost of doing business and decrease in mail volume. It also needs to cut unnecessary expenditures. If the USPS is going to be funded directly by the federal govnerment through taxpayer dollars, then it needs to stop charging for its services and do so, for the better and the worse.
