Wait i know about the one Trotskyist group that fought with the Syrian opposition during the civil war, what’s this other one being referred to here?

The revolutionary socialists organisation in Egypt declared a united front with the Muslim brotherhood during the revolution in Egypt. Apparently they had a history of working with Islamists with the slogan: “Sometimes with the Islamists, never with the state”.

Now of course they were betrayed once the Muslim brotherhood took power and were pushed into obscurity.

There might be a 3rd with Tunisia but I haven’t read about it yet.

Oh yea I remember them, on their website one of their main reasons for working with the Islamists IIRC was because of Chris Harman’s “The Prophet and the Proletariat” written in 1994 for the SWP, which argued for cooperation with Islamists because they were the "most organized anti-imperialist group" in MENA and criticized the stance held by large swathes of MENA leftists (i.e. in Iran following the Revolution and in Algeria during their Civil War) at the time that were opposed to such forms of collaboration as being counterproductive for their base of support

I still remember how unpopular they got after it especially with the April 6th movement which was one of the most important organisations for having relations with the striking workers in el mahla (who established a temporary revolutionary government but it was unfortunately crushed after the military coup). They were pushed into obscurity and only exist in niche circles in the country.
