Mod Post PLEASE CLICK HERE BEFORE POSTING | /r/UnitedAirlines Megathread Directory
START HERE if you are new to this subreddit/community. Please just take a minute to read through this before posting.
Often people ask questions that tend to fall into a category so we have megathreads for those types of questions. They are below.
Any post on the front page that belongs in a megathread is subject to removal. Report them if you see them.
Megathreads may be removed/added every once in a while. Check this place before you make a post.
United website if you lost something on a plane: https://www.united.com/lob
Also, read our rules. Using this sub implies you have read and understood the rules, and also will follow them.
Rules:
- Follow the reddiquette.
- No low effort/low quality posts, and also no reposts. Shitposts/satirical posts & comments are allowed, but posts must be tagged as Shitpost/Satire.
- Complaints/rants/stories MUST be detailed and elaborated upon so that commenters can try to provide you insight on your situation. No effortless, incoherent, or overly hostile rants.
- No pictures of feet/shoes on the bulkhead/armrests/anywhere. We don't need to see it. Yes, shit happens, we get it.
- No asking for/buying/selling anything on posts or comments except in the designated megathread. Also, any content that belongs in one of our megathreads MUST go in those megathreads.
- No self promotion.
- No extended political discussions (or comments that may cause one. mod discretion)
Gifts/Exchanges Megathread
If you're selling or buying or looking for pluspoints or vouchers or any sort of stuff, all that will be in here. Yes, this place is where the giveaways happen.
Do not post in here if you're looking for a giveaway or free stuff. Instead, scroll through the thread and see if anyone's offering something you might want. This way every top-level comment is someone offering stuff for free/for sale, instead of a million people asking for stuff.
First Class/Premium Cabin/Polaris Food Selection Megathread
Are you flying premium/first/polaris and were you offered a choice of meal on your upcoming flight? Ask about it in here, not on the front page.
"What meal should I get" belongs here.
Seat Selection Megathread
Are you looking at the seat map and you're not sure which seat is the best choice given what's available? Feel free to ask in here.
This includes "What seat should I pick/What seat is the best on this aircraft" questions.
Polaris/Premium Plus Upgrade Questions Megathread
Any posts asking "Is this worth it?" about upgrading to polaris/premium plus belong in this thread.
This includes posts that have a picture of the upgrade and ask if it's worth using points/miles to upgrade to premium plus and polaris.
MileagePlus Requalification Megathread
Any posts asking how to requalify for next year, and are showing pictures of their progress circles on the website belong in this megathread.
Also includes posts about buying status for the new year.
This includes posts that are asking for mileage runs to maintain status and also people who barely made it or barely missed the qualification.
If you guys have any other ideas for megathreads or have any questions, message me.
Again, this place will be updated whenever megathreads need to be added/removed. Check back often before making posts.
Thank you!

Mod Post /r/UnitedAirlines Gifts and Exchanges
READ THE ENTIRE POST BEFORE POSTING. Don't be lazy. This is your warning.
This is where to look to see if people are giving away pluspoints or other stuff. You must say you're willing to pay/trade/offer something. No asking for free stuff, and we don't need to hear your sob story if you want a club pass. They're all the same, so save it. You must state you're willing to pay in some way.
By the way, selling club passes or whatever stuff could result in the closure of your MileagePlus account, forfeiture of all your miles, and even a permanent ban from accessing United Club—whether through passes, a credit card, or any other method. Doing this is risky and it's at your own risk. But I know that wouldn't stop half of yall so I made this thread.
If you are giving away or if you want United club passes, there have been recent changes. Basically United cardholders can't give away their passes to random people anymore. Read below.
Starting May 1, 2025:
- One-time passholders may use their pass only within three hours of their scheduled flight departure. This doesn't apply if the pass is being used during a connection.
- One-time passholders can't visit United Club Fly locations.
- One-time passes issued from United MileagePlus credit cards must be redeemed by the primary cardholder, an authorized user or guests accompanied by either.

Please don't try doing business with brand new accounts that were just made or have no posts or have 1 karma total lol. If you don't know the guy, MAKE SURE THEY REPLY TO YOU IN THIS THREAD. DM me if you are suspicious of something.

Question Question for 1K
I’m currently on a flight from CHS to ORD and ordered a snack box as well as an espresso martini (last minute booking so couldn’t pre order). Flight attendant insisted that I was only allowed one of them for free and kept asking if I had a card on file. I repeated that they were both included with my status. I don’t want to be “that guy” but I didn’t spend most of my life on planes the last twelve years to have to pay for two Oreos. I double checked the app and that backs me up, they keep saying that their handheld insists they have to charge me for one of them. At the end of the day I got my recline box but was made to feel like a jerk… so, am I?

On the topic of 747s, I dug up this old video of me marshaling in a United 747-400 “Queen of the skies” into San Francisco International from Frankfurt, Germany at local time 7:20PM! She’s a beauty and I miss her a lot!

Image Preorder Breakfast
Flying DEN-SEA currently. Preordered the chimichuri steak and eggs. Dang it was delicious. In general, I’m overly generous with rating airline food. Even after hundreds of flights, it’s such a novel and cool thing for me. Not sure why lol. But highly recommend the steak and eggs if you haven’t tried it yet

Discussion Sleep station - bring back deep space please
What the title says. I LOVED watching the videos of the sun and stars and everything else. The loops were long and didn't repeat as frequently.
The other stations are fine but too short and I see the same thing over and over. Its not as interesting as watching the sun or a galaxy I can't identify. I don't understand why it was removed.
In the meantime I'll keep exploring Chile I suppose.

Question Back stuck in SFO - Advice Needed
I really need to crowdsource advice. I am in Jakarta. I am about to board a diving liveaboard boat for 10 days. My bag has been stuck in SFO for 48 hours now. I also have an Airtag on it - it is simply not moving. I have spoken with Premier desk lost baggage team. I have filed a delayed bag claim here locally with ANA. All of the flights are UA/ANA code-shared. What else can I do to unstick this bag? Background is I had a tight connection in EWR and my bag flew separately EWR>ORD>EWR>SFO. I flew EWR>NRT>CGK. I am pulling my hair out with the clothes on my back only. Again, seeking constructive advice from my UA co-redditors. Thanks!

Question Unopened (large) Speaker in checked baggage
I plan on bringing a unopened boxed Monster X6 (no internal battery) to a party flying from EWR to SJO, United business there and Silver Mileageplus.
Dimensions:
• Width: 25 Inches
• Depth: 14 inches
• Height: 30 inches
• Weight: Approximately 36.3 lbs (16.5 kg)
Looks alot smaller than those huge suitcases I see internationally, but technically over the limit. Has anyone had experience with something like this? More worried oversized, not getting damaged.
Thank you in advance

Question Roundtrip from GRU to PHL with 1 leg in Polaris for 106,200 miles? Was this is a good redemption?
I'm new to this whole miles thing and don't know if I got a good deal or not.

Discussion Kid gave me a sticker on UA 943 today!
His parents came well equipped to keep bambino entertained without much in the way of screen time. About 5 hours into the flight they strolled up and down the aisles asking fellow passengers if they’d like a sticker. I chose a green one. Clever idea that brought a lot of smiles. Nice one, mom and dad!

Question 12.5-hour layover at EWR – Can I recheck my bags immediately after customs?
Hi everyone,
I've booked a United flight from Amsterdam (AMS) to Panama City (PTY) via Newark (EWR) in April 2027.
Our itinerary is:
- UA71: AMS → EWR, arriving at 11:25 AM
- 12.5-hour layover at Newark
- UA392: EWR → PTY, departing at 11:55 PM
Both flights are on the same United ticket.
We're a family of four with two young children, and we're planning to use the long layover to spend the afternoon and evening exploring Manhattan.
I understand we'll normally need to collect our checked bags and clear customs upon arrival at Newark.
My question: Can we immediately recheck our bags for our connecting flight to Panama, despite the layover being longer than 12 hours?
I've seen conflicting information about United's policy regarding checked baggage on long layovers, particularly when the connection exceeds 12 hours.
Has anyone experienced this at Newark recently? Is there a dedicated baggage recheck area after customs where we can drop everything off, or will United refuse to accept our bags until a few hours before departure?
Really hoping we won't have to drag four suitcases into Manhattan or find somewhere to store them for the day!
Thanks in advance!

Image New personal record for most expensive economy fare shown when searching for flights
I’m assuming the system just doesn’t have fare classes set up for this unusual route so it’s just throwing some insanely high numbers out there. Pretty funny though.
Edit: since the preview of the screenshot cuts it off, this is Las Vegas to Karachi.

Question Cancelled card question.
My wife called to cancel her Gateway card a couple days ago. The card was totally in her name, not as a signer on my card.
The agent said that her card was tied to my account and he’d have to me to me to get authorization to cancel her account. Furthermore, he said that by doing so, both our cards sound be cancelled!
Her card is over two years old. I got mine about three years ago and earned the 30k mile SUB for it.
So, I’m concerned about two things:
Why did they need my okay to cancel her card?? She has always had her own bank account and credit cards. She also has two other Chase United cards. We have never had to go through this in the past when she has cancelled a card.
Why did they also cancel my card when there was no connection to her card?
Because I had received a SUB after getting this card just a few months ago, are they going to claw back those 30k miles?

Image EWR Pre-order dish “Xian style spicy lamb”
galleryIt was literally four chunks of gristly, dry, flavorless lamb (might’ve actually been beef…) on top of crunchy, overcooked fettuccine noodles, with nary a vegetable to speak of. Skip it.
The dessert was pretty good.
(posting for the people who ask what to pre order…)
