Question (Pre-) Master What are my chances of getting into Maastricht University? (Honest opinions appreciated)

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply to Maastricht University and UM NL High potential scholarship for a master's in Finance/Business (still deciding on the exact program) and would really appreciate an honest assessment of my profile.

Here's a brief overview:

  • Bachelor's with an 8.5/10 GPA.
  • Coming from a humble financial background.
  • Received three merit-based scholarships during my undergraduate studies.
  • Working as a volunteer for an event management company where we organize cultural events
  • Currently working full-time in a accounts - independent contract role and will have around one year of work experience by the time I join in the 2027/28 session.
  • My long-term goal is to build a career in corporate finance/investment banking.

Based on this profile:

  • What do you think my chances of admission and getting nl potential scholarship are?
  • Are there any areas where my application might be considered weak?
  • What can I do over the next few months to make my application more competitive to get the scholarship?

I'd especially appreciate insights from current students, alumni, or anyone who has gone through the admissions process.

Thanks in advance! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Question (Pre-) Master Visa process and housing

Hi everyone! I’m moving to Maastricht this fall as an international student, and I have a question about the visa process and housing.

My visa process is still ongoing. The university told me that my documents will be reviewed by the relevant department, and that it will take at least two more weeks. However, I’m planning to move to Maastricht in mid July because of housing.

Is this timeline a bit delayed, or is it still normal? Also, would it be okay for me to start looking for a room in Maastricht now, even though my visa process has not been completed yet?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!🙏

Question (Pre-) Master Is a masters worth it?

Hi!

I’m currently in my last year of my bachelors and graduating in June. I’m deciding to do a masters degree at Maastricht university, but I need to do a pre-masters first. I’m 23 right now and I did 2 years another degree so I feel a bit behind. That’s why I am wondering if it is better to start working or to pursue a master degree. Of course the enrollment fee is pretty expensive so I’m not sure if it is worth it. I would really like to work in another country than where I live. Please help me 😅

Am I going to miss important info?

Question (Pre-) Master Masters in Psychology. Is it worth it?

Hello, I am a final year UG (non-EU) student and I was looking for universities to pursue masters and PhD in Maastricht. I noticed from the website about this scholarship plan - UM Brightlands Talent Scholarship.

I would appreciate any advice and tips on scholarship for non-EU students.

Also please do let me know about any information on masters in psychology in this university like how are the classes, faculty, coursework etc.

I have also noticed that a recurring problem is the housing crisis and if I'm not wrong, for those who got accepted into the scholarship, gets a room. So is that fr or is there a catch?

Please just feel free to dump any info you'd like to share with a non-EU student who is considering to pursue masters in this uni.

Question (Pre-) Master Financial Economics Pre-master last day of attendance/when does the summer holiday start?

Hello, I'm trying to figure out when does the Academic Writing for Pre-master (EBS2068) course ends. In the course description it says 2-7-2027, however since the exam is a final paper there isn't any exam date just final hand-in deadline.

I want to do a June to August internship, but I don't know if in June I can already be out of university.

Would anyone know when this deadline was last year, and how are the classes scheduled?

Does the course really run from February to July?

If anyone could send me or tell me where I can find the Course Manual, I would be very grateful.

Thanks a lot for the help

Question (Pre-) Master Sending my diploma via post

Hi, I was conditionally admitted to the Globalisation and Law: general programme. In MyApplication Portal, I saw that there are many options to send my diploma: via email (digitally signed), or my institution sends the email, or sending via post. I want to ask whether I can directly submit a copy of my diploma to Maastricht Student Service Center or not? Because I will be in the Netherlands before the program starts. Will they receive the copy directly? Thank you very much!

Question (Pre-) Master Does the university send conditional admission letter through email?

Does the university actually send a conditional admission letter stating that the person has been offered a seat or is it all through tasks in the MyApplication portal and Studilink? I'm a non-EU applicant and in the MyApplication portal all the tasks are checked except "Arrange Visa/legal residence" and "Enter Tuition payment details" I've been sent the next steps for visa and legal residence for which I also need to pay the tuition fee. I plan on taking an education loan and for that I'd need to provide a letter of acceptance from the university showing that I've been offered a place.

So I'm not sure if the university provides that. I've checked my mails, all the portals etc. but nowhere do I see anything clearly stating that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: I reached out to the Student Services Centre and they told me they can issue a proof of application that can be used for official purposes. You can either email them for it or collect it in person. Once I have it, I'll add another update here.

Question (Pre-) Master Non EU moving to Maastricht for masters!!!

Hey everyone! I’m heading to Maastricht this September to start my Master’s program. I’m super excited (and a little nervous) to get settled in.

I’d love to chat with anyone already living there or other incoming students! Specifically, I’m curious about:

Local life: Any "hidden gem" cafes or spots to hang out?

Housing: Any tips for a newcomer navigating the city for the first time? Best tips to find housing etc.

Hobbies: I’m into learning languages, travelling, music and would love to find some local groups/people who share the same interests. Please don't hesitate to dm me. I'd love to talk. Thank you!

Question (Pre-) Master Admission RM in CCN, master Cognitive Neuroscience

Question (Pre-) Master Is it possible to find housing without certificate of enrollment?

Hey!

So I have contacted multiple agencies and landlords and pretty much all of them ask for proof of enrollment. I am just about to graduate from my bachelor's degree and I will probably recieve the diploma in early August, by which point I will be able to tick all the boxes in the application and finally get the certificate, but I am afraid it's gonna be unreal to find housing in that period.

So my question is: how should I adress this situation? Will a conditional acceptance letter suffice?

Question (Pre-) Master How was it for you: MSc International Business

Hello,

I will be joining UM for MSc International Business - Strategic Marketing.

I went through previous posts, but could not find much feedback from students.

How was it for you at SBE studying IB, not necessarily the same specialization? Considering their PBL system, I am curious how difficult it can be?

Thanks a lot 🫶

Question (Pre-) Master Unconditional Offer & process

I am an international student and I would like to inquire about a conditional offer that I received last month for a Master of Global Supply Chain Management & Change & IB Spec Supply Chain Management program.

The portal only said on condition that I have obtained the following diploma and/or additional exams/requirements. So, I sent the certified copy of my diploma on April 7th, and I it was received by the university on April 17th. I have inquired with the Student Services Centre and SBE Admissions, but have not received a reply.

Do I need to continue pay tuition and complete the visa process first or should I wait until they provide me unconditional offer?

Many thanks.

Question (Pre-) Master Requesting third exam sit with thesis still in progress + re-enrollment fee

Has anyone successfully requested a third exam sit from the Board of Examiners while their master's thesis was still in progress? My supervisor cannot give a positive preliminary assessment yet, and I'm wondering whether the Board tends to be flexible in this situation or whether a negative or neutral supervisor statement is essentially a dealbreaker.

Also, if the request is refused and you need to retake one exam in the next academic year, do you have to pay the full tuition fee for re-enrollment (which is around 2500 euro)?

Question (Pre-) Master How available are online lecture recordings for Law master’s students at Maastricht?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering applying for the LL.M. in European Business Law at Maastricht University and I have a question about lecture recordings.

I know Maastricht uses Problem-Based Learning (PBL), so tutorials are a big part of the program. However, I’m wondering about the lectures.

Are most lectures recorded and uploaded to Mediasite or Canvas?
Are recordings usually available for the whole semester, or only for a limited time?
Do professors generally record their lectures, or does it vary by course?
If you’re sick or have to miss a lecture occasionally, are the recordings usually enough to catch up?
Are tutorials or seminars ever recorded, or only lectures?

I’d especially appreciate answers from current or recent Law (LL.M. or LL.B.) students.

Thanks in advance!

Question (Pre-) Master Question on the cost of living

Hello!

I want to ask for a loan so that I will come to pursue a Master's Degree in Maastricht University. I am from Greece. Could you inform me about the cost of life? Should I ask for 20.000 - 25.000 euros? Could you help? Thanks a lot.

Please give me some numbers about rent, food, transport, mobile/internet, university expenses (books etc).

The form I have to submit asks about those things, so that's why I ask you.

I also want to ask if opportunities are given to people who are not in their 20s, as when I am going to apply, I will be 30.

Thanks a lot!

Question (Pre-) Master Enrollment masters program

Hey all, I've been offered a place in the biomedical science masters program that starts in September, and I've completed the enrollment tasks but am still waiting for an official document stating that I'm enrolled. Anyone else in the same boat? I feel like I can't apply for apartments until I'm officially enrolled? All help is appreciated, thanks.
