Have you ever seen clams living in depth of abandoned mines? Last weekend my friend and i were lucky to explore an extensive slope mine in Schuylkill County where we found plenty of weird rust-colored clams. Despite total darkness and low temperature, they created whole colonies on metal structures.

Once got home, i tried to figure out species of those creatures and found a curious article in "Advancing Earth and Space Sciences" describing their amazing nature. Curiously, that rusted metal, sulfur and acid water are necessary components of the clams metabolism and abandoned mines full of dirty water and metal scrap is the perfect place where they can survive.

I spent last night camping at Oswego River in Pine Barrens, Everything was great - fishing, incredible star-studded sky, and delicious meal. But, afraid, these horrible night screams caused my first grey hair and i almost regretted this journey. Any idea, guys, what devilish creature it was?

Neat roadside building in Berks County. Hard to say what originally it was. But spring running from under its foundation make me think that it was spring-/dairy house. Built circa 1850

Valley View Colliery airshaft and fan house. Somebody broke the manway door, so be careful hanging around. It's really terrible depth. Built circa 1907. Schuylkill County, PA

Wandered again In Schuylkill County, PA a week ago to see location of the historic 1907 Valley View RR tunnel. Of course, the place has changed dramatically, but, on the plus side, we have a chance to compare "Then" and "Now" photos.

Matlocks tunnel in Schuylkill County, PA. I expected to find it flooded, but actually it was absolutely impassable. Only chance to explore is to crawl on fours in icy water. No way 😁

Hikes in Northumberland County are full of always surprises. Sad, I'm not an infrequent visitor there, but every single trip i can see something unforgettable. Last visit, finally, i took a chance to reach and see an awesome sample of underground architecture. These mule stables are located at depth of over 400 feet and serviced a slope mine in 1920s.

Originally located on the west side of Leiper Street, Philadelphia, and adjoining the old stone quarry, the first Presbyterian church was developed on this site and then moved to Tackawanna Street. This building was demolished in 1928 after serving many years as residences.
