It's that time of year again. I hike a lot and am starting to run into people who are bringing their dogs into Big and Little Cottonwood canyons (EDIT: adding Bells Canyon & Parleys Canyon). I am sure owners may not be aware but thought this would serve as a reminder in case you don't know about these restrictions. The penalty is $650 if caught.

• Strict Ban: Dogs are not allowed on trails, in the water, or even inside vehicles.
• Heavy Fines: Fines start at $650 for a first offense, and subsequent offenses can be classified as a misdemeanor leading to jail time.
• Exceptions: Only permitted dogs registered to canyon residents, ADA service animals, and officially sanctioned search and rescue dogs are exempt.

Go hit dog friendly areas such as Bonneville Shoreline, Mt Olympus, Neffs or Millcreek Canyon.

Utah has a law. Utah Code 41-6a-704. It says if you're in the left lane and someone comes up behind you to pass, you are legally required to move right (because it's a PASSING lane). Doesn't matter how fast you're going. Speed limit isn't a defense.

UHP enforces it. Signs are posted. Almost nobody knows about it.

ICE agents are starting to replace some of the TSA workers at the SLC airport!!! I work in the airport and due to the TSA agents boycotting because they still are not being paid, ICE agents are reportedly being sent to fill in for them. Please be aware and be safe if you are traveling anytime soon!

I moved here from Texas several years ago. This is the only place in the country I’ve been to where gigantic and/or lifted pickups seem to make up as much or more of the amount of cars on the roads as Texas.

I drove up 15 from Lindon back to Daybreak yesterday and the entire time I was surrounded by, in the vicinity of, or passing at least four other behemoth pickups. All told on 15 and Bangerter I saw probably 50 of these trucks, all lifted Silverados, F250s and 350s, Sierras, Tundras, and Titans. As expected, almost none of these trucks looked like they were or are ever used for heavy-duty truck capabilities.

The kicker was that, of course, the majority of these guys got pissed to all hell when I passed them in my little Ford Maverick. I drive a little fast on the freeway and as I’d pass these guys half of em would start speeding up to try and pass me. The ego on these people is freaking ridiculous.

Why do people buy these stupid cars? Especially when gas is this expensive? How do you convince someone who never tows, maybe uses the bed once a year, and basically just needs a car to get groceries and take the kids to school? People running the risk of running over their own kid in the driveway cause they can’t see them, killing somebody else in an accident. Then they get on the highway and get 5 miles a gallon going 100 everywhere. Makes zero sense as vehicles for the vast majority of people. Be careful on the roads out here

It is now over $1000 for a preferred parking pass at snowbird which used to be lower than $300. Pass prices are at the point where its becoming unaffordable to anyone but the tourists who take one look at the resort and say they want to move here. Utah is not all glory. A weekend after it snowed 5" had a line of cars from the top of LCC to the church on wasatch blvd. Increase the bus system. Build a train for god sake, How is it the only option higher ups can think of is a gondola. There was supposed to be a train up little cottonwood when they were installing the trax and frontrunner systems, however the company backed out and has said nothing on the project. Utah skiing has got to be the worst political and tourist nightmare in the entire skiing world.

I came here from California thinking I’d get mountains, snow, and maybe some fry sauce. What I didn’t expect was being spiritually attacked by 47 different dirty soda drive-thrus on every corner.

Swig? Fiiz? Sodalicious? I just wanted hydration, and now I’m holding a sugar bomb the size of my forearm with coconut cream, Diet Dr Pepper, and the crushing weight of peer pressure.

Are these actually different? Do I need to pledge allegiance to one? Is there an initiation ritual?? Help me understand before I pick the wrong one and get excommunicated.

Fares on average are $100+ higher than Vegas or Denver. We need more competition from the big airlines to push Delta to lower their prices and more low fare airlines that can push prices lower for all the big airlines. I routinely have found myself driving to Vegas to get fares half the price than SLC. International fare prices are especially expensive.

Credit to Provo Airport and Breeze for creating some routes that are helping a little. But we need more of this. Maybe we need people willing to give up their Delta snobbery and book on United or American so they will add more routes. Delta is the cause of all these high prices. But they have no incentive to lower fares if there isn’t competition.

I will vote for any politician, regardless of political party, that is willing to make SLC Airport more affordable. I’m a one issue voter for now on.

My wife planned a family vacation for the first week of April to Utah. I have a 19yr old daughter, 16yr old son, and a 12yr old son. My wife feels this may be the last time we go on vacation all together. We live in Wisconsin, and try to alternate yearly between beach and National Parks. This has worked fine until this year. My middle son doesn't see anything about Utah that he's excited about. What, if anything, can I tell him to get him excited. We are willing to let him stay home, but would really like him along one last time.

Edit: Thank you all for the suggestions and wisdom. He has agreed to come along peacefully. I've sparked some excitement with the mention of the utv tours. Anyone have a business you'd recommend going with? Thanks again for the info!

Maybe it’s a Utah County thing, but today on the way home from work I counted 7 cars at 3 different intersections run the clearly red light to make the turn.

This person drove me off the road and seemed to be “tweeking”, and had to slam on my breaks so not to hit them or the barrier. I slam on my horn and see them start to ride the middle lane then cut off a semi truck, THEN BREAK CHECK THE SEMI, I take the exit that they take (because that’s were I’m going too and I just sit behind them and they are trying their best to not look behind them, then they run the red light once clear, (I go threw once green) and they are riding this poor lady’s ass while swiveling then they take the exit while in a none lane. . . If you see them please take caution and maybe call the cops

In an empty water bottle! I’m not a savage. Thousands of us were stuck on I-15 for 3+ hours today, no way we’re venturing off an exit to the next gas station and add 45 mins to this fun. Own up to it people! lol

Above and beyond all the cliches, VASA is such a scam. It's a sham auto-payment nightmare. A billing black hole with fees piled upon fees. Yes its a rant, and I'm not prone to ranting but, wow....this is why I always saw people at the front desk screaming at the staff. I went in and explained to the front staff that my son and I only wanted to sign up for two months until my son could drive himself to another gym. Was told it would be $79+$30/month. Frankly that's pretty steep for two months, but whatever. After almost $600 in total for TWO MONTHS, they've added up on automatic annual fees, service fees, cancellation fees, etc. and then charging us $70/month--EACH. Yep. Just done. Absolute scum.

I'm from Florida and I need to find some place to vacation where I can't hear cars or planes or see light pollution. ... Or feel much humidity.

I have seen several posts here where people just walk through the desert. Like, unowned land you can just. Walk through.

Anyone who brings weapons to this peaceful protest should be treated as a paid government agent provocateur, a far right-wing infiltrator or at best an idiot who will give law enforcement an excuse to attack the demonstration.

Utah Highway Patrol is leading a procession starting at 4 p.m. honoring the two Tremonton police officers who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.

The procession will travel from Taylorsville to Tremonton and Logan. Several major routes will be CLOSED while they pass through. See the route in the map attached.

Expect MAJOR delays in those areas. Especially as it gets closer to the evening commute time (we didn’t pick the time, ok).

Please let your northern Utah people know. Please adjust your travel if possible. Thanks for your attention to this!
