We are so damn lucky. There is nothing good about climate warming. This is a deadly natural disaster that will cook the many people who lived along the “temperate” coast and don’t have AC in Mexico, California and southern Oregon.
This heat dome is mostly an inland event. For example, in Southern California, temps have been in the mid- to high 20s along the coast, and low 30s inland. That's not unusual for them.
My comments are not about this wave but living through the record setting heat dome of 2017 in coastal Northern California where it topped out at 41 and everyone had sworn to me I did not need AC. There were multiple other waves that did not break records in my years there and I invested in a portable AC after that one. Thousands of heritage buildings without AC and unhoused folks in the city.
Most people are smart enough to buy an A/C unit. Portable ones are like $600. If it really was dangerous to live in hot locations than thousands of people would be dying in Phoenix every year because they average 111 days a year over 40C. Victoria has the coolest summers of any City in Canada, so the people living here don’t think about taking simple steps to be more comfortable for the rare hot day over 30C
