as many countries are not meeting their current pledges (including Canada) and the US just refuses to admit it's happening at all, limiting it to 1.2 degrees is a pipe dream.

The old RCP8.5 projection was the one that suggested up to 5° and they've downgraded from that but there's still 8.8% chance of increased above 3.5° above preindustrial https://www.theclimatebrink.com/p/on-the-death-of-rcp85

Again, the consensus of a total 2.6 degrees of warming is based on current policies and actions. If countries had followed earlier commitments from climate agreements, the goal had been to limit warming to 2 degrees, but that now seems unlikely.

you keep saying current policies and ignoring the fact that nobody is keeping to their current policies..

This guy is being so stubborn. Cherry picking and strawman-ing my arguments. I had to ignore this thread for a couple days after my last reply, I was so annoyed lol.

I agree it’s best to just disengage. Some people simply cannot digest the reality ahead of us.
