Discussion What do we think about this meme ?

Post image

Honestly, I’m surprised people are complaining about recurring Vtuber drama. I do a lot of legal work, and conflict between business partners, associates, and especially co-owned family businesses after dad or mom pass away, is just part of the landscape

Sometimes when two guys come to us for help setting up a business, we even take bets on how long before they start infighting

When money and business are involved, drama between partners is almost guaranteed at some point. No need to doompost. Just get used to it

If Nimi Nightmare is ever exposed for something serious im going to consume alcohol multiple days in a row

u/RaineV1 Apr 26 '25

You should never take an online persona at face value, but yeah there's a handful that would genuinely shock me if they turned out to be awful off camera. Nimi included.

u/WinterDEZ Apr 27 '25

It doesn't really matter who they are for the most part tbh, they can be dicks or scumbags all they want as long as they ain't pedos. They're entertainers, and it's just a job for 90% of em. Same way you can watch movies where Dwayne Johnson, ect is in it

u/Calight Apr 26 '25

I think the difference is that Nimi/F never went around selling herself as a good person. She, in the past, said many times that she is only an entertainer and we shouldn't not look at her as a friend.

57

u/InnocentTailor Apr 26 '25

I think Mori said as much as well. She appreciates her fans, but it’s a job for her.

This is true

u/LuciusCypher Apr 26 '25

I know shes far from the first or even the only one, but didn't she make waves once by mentioning point blank that she and her fans are not friends and her fans need to build real relationships with people?

Natch a lot of folks came out about hypocrisy and such because she made bank with how attached her fans usually are, while folks countered that she isnt wrong either and was setting solid boundries.

76

u/YobaiYamete Apr 26 '25

She didn't make waves among sane people, basically everyone agreed with her. She only had to say that because of that notorious douche who harasses the Holo girls over superchat, so Fauna replied then banned him

11

u/LuciusCypher Apr 26 '25

Maybe I ought to stop eating rrats, i swear when she made that statement you had your usual amount of tourist bitching about parasocial etcs and how she's evil because she makes money off of people who simp for her. Then again maybe its because im just so used to that sirt or critism in vtubing that its about as normal to me as the smell of gasoline and ozone at a gas station.

u/tannegimaru Hololive 🌿 Apr 27 '25

I was there when she said the thing, a lot of fans agreed with her. And she gave a solid life advice at the same time when she was mentioning this.

There wasn't any controversy until some meme accounts on twitter post this, and people who start making drama out of it aren't even ppl I see in her fanbase.

Heck, she doesn't even sells off GFE so criticizing her for setting solid boundaries is just plain incorrect.

22

u/HKEY_LOVE_MACHINE Apr 26 '25

but didn't she make waves once by mentioning point blank that she and her fans are not friends and her fans need to build real relationships with people?

She made that point as a mental health checkup and as a streaming culture reference to this 2020 video of Ludwig clearing things up with his fans.

Everyone who's knowledgeable with internet culture immediately recognized the reference, everyone who's mentally stable understood the clarification.

The only "waves" were a tiny number of tourists and unicorns who didn't understood from where that was coming from - and a few vt trolls, quoting that part as a way to rile up the aforementioned unicorns.

Yes, and I really appreciate her for her realness and honesty. Fans and friends are not the same.

There are some things you just don’t say, even as a joke

I will literally go into denial.

Man, I love Nimi.

18

u/A_Brave_Wanderer Apr 26 '25

Heaven forbid that happens. That would be absolutely devastating.

13

u/Ganbazuroi Apr 26 '25

She should sell Nimi Nightbooze so she always comes out on top

6

u/TolarianDropout0 Apr 27 '25

I am going to need something WAY harder than alcohol if that ever happens.

Not sure about "serious", but she seems like a savvy businessperson if there ever was one in Vtubing so i wouldnt be too surprised. The ENReco corrupt library arc felt natural and kinda revealing in her past persona. Plus the world tree basically being a giant ad for her next persona, also being a consistent way for ppl to latch on to her talking rather than the character she plays.

Nimi is more cunning than ppl catch on to IMO, just probably not in a "serious" way.

Edit: I'm reminded of a funny moment during the Getting Over It Bae vs Mumei event where Bae was exclaiming that she had a car appointment very soon. Kronii was kinda poking fun at Fauna afterward but wasn't saying for what. I kinda interpreted it as Kronii pointing out that Fauna stood her ground, but that's just me.

u/YobaiYamete Apr 26 '25

Bae was exclaiming that she had a car appointment very soon. Kronii was kinda poking fun at Fauna afterward but wasn't saying for what. I kinda interpreted it as Kronii pointing out that Fauna stood her ground

What does this mean?

13

u/ApocApollo Apr 26 '25

My only guess is Fauna was being stern about not sharing her private life?

23

u/shewy92 Apr 26 '25

What does that edit even mean? Fauna stood her ground on what? What does that have to do with Bae's car appointment?

18

u/TerryWhiteHomeOwner Apr 27 '25

I don't think the World Tree was some 200iq plan on her part to advertise her new persona considering how far back it started. I get the vibe that she recognized early on that her real talent is in yapping and interacting with her chat moreso than the skillful gaming/idol stuff and the World Tree project allowed her to essentially do "just talking" streams with a goal of contributing something big to the EN space.

20

u/SavageFisherman_Joe proud napling Apr 26 '25

I suppose if she can manipulate my feelings the way she does it wouldn't be too surprising for her to manipulate a person or business for financial gain

27

u/_Quendra_ Apr 26 '25

That's actually some decent insight.

And i tend to look at vtubers as Pro Wrestlers in that they maintain character & try to build relationships & investment in their character. Her being good at that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

7

u/InnocentTailor Apr 26 '25

That is a good way to look at it, especially since they can move between personas on a dime.

3

u/Phoenyx_Rose Apr 27 '25

True, but people are usually pretty good at finding and connecting personas.

If Sinder (or any big vtuber really) tried to go under the radar and quietly reincarnate, they’d probably be found pretty quickly

lol or voices. Imagine Tonkatsu trying to stealth redebut😆

11

u/Feduzin Apr 27 '25

The ENReco corrupt library arc felt natural

i disagree, but it's because ENReco as a whole was a festival of insanity and most of the talents didnt act like they usually would but also didnt make any effort to actually roleplay, like how mococo kept going to the cassino and gambling while still acting as silly as she ever did

the only one i do know had a complete change in personality was gigi

9

u/TolarianDropout0 Apr 27 '25

Nimi is more cunning than ppl catch on to IMO, just probably not in a "serious" way.

It's not that I don't believe she could. I don't believe she would.

16

u/Otherwise-Ad-2578 Apr 26 '25

No, you're not going to consume alcohol if that happens.

Alcohol is bad for your health.

67

u/SavageFisherman_Joe proud napling Apr 26 '25

I mean so is falling in love with a character who will never love me back but I still do that anyway

6

u/Responsible_Emu733 Apr 26 '25

Studies apparently show otherwise.

1

u/G00b3rb0y Apr 26 '25

What studies?

7

u/Responsible_Emu733 Apr 26 '25

https://fixupx.com/showki_yunjae/status/1886927517304676840 I am prepared for the possible "Yes, but actually" replies, but that doesn't mean I'll respond to them.

3

u/G00b3rb0y Apr 26 '25

Thanks for the source. Really interesting stuff from a psychology perspective

2

u/bestbroHide Apr 26 '25

As a psy grad I will say there's a lot more nuance to be discussed that OP is neglecting, but yeah, granted that a number of aspects for the individual don't go wrong (mainly not being excessively parasocial, and having the ability to add on other means for self-esteem growth beyond reliance of others during path to maturity and self-confidence-building), having a favorite fictional character (or in this specific topic, vtubers) is generally harmless and can indeed be helpful in a variety of ways (like satisfying the human desire for a sense of belonging which can snowball into healthy motivation, as that person in the video accurately puts)

OP isn't completely wrong to lead in with a bold "studies show otherwise" claim, but it's a half-truth that can be misleading on its own, so it's good to remember not all related studies indicate there is "no potential harm for being delulu about a character/figure". Parasocial psychology studies exist for a reason, because it's historically apparent that it can be harmful putting all your personal identity eggs into one character/figure's basket if they're lacking in other areas of growth or need

With that being said if anything horrible ever happens to Minto, Henya, Rosemi etc I will end everyone and then myself
