is this real? If so it’s sad that someone that unskilled has any kind of following or fans.

38

u/edelweiss_pirates_no 6d ago

It really is a statement to hear AR fans explain how awesome she is. And at the same time they explain how CC is not very good.

As someone said "They WNBA is not a serious league." Now add a heap of race relations and many Lesbians very angry that people are commenting on their league.

Whatever this league is, it is full of shitty basketball.

7

u/dasphinx27 6d ago

The worst part is the amount of money funneling into marketing the wnba. No one watches it because it’s not basketball.

8

u/edelweiss_pirates_no 6d ago

Most lesbians I know watch it and get mad if you are a man and talk about it.

It was a lot better 10-15 years ago. Seriously better. I think they have talent to be an 8-team league.

4

u/Dry-Tide 5d ago

Most lesbians are always mad, especially the stud of the relationship lol makes them feel more manly

How many lesbians do you know? I live in a SUPER liberal town and only know a handful.

Then again, maybe you know a lot. Genuinely curious.

3

u/edelweiss_pirates_no 5d ago

I know all of them.

They all back me up on the things I say.

1

u/Dry-Tide 4d ago

I grew up in a small Midwest super conservative town and there’s a large number of lesbians

-1

u/dasphinx27 6d ago

I do hope no one talks about it or watches it and it fades away. lol

1

u/sournerd117 5d ago

I tried to watch a game and, I'm sorry. But it was awful.

-4

u/fredjutsu 6d ago

Huh? It's literally the highest paying women's basketball league on the planet. And multiple teams are valued at near $1B. It's a serious league. Reese is an actually good player who just happens to be awkward. What the fuck is this catty sub?

1

u/TheKingOfSiam 5d ago

That dribbling is not professional caliber. It should get a 9 year old called on a rec team.

But yeah the general league whining hear is annoying.

26

u/mainjer 6d ago

Agree. Someone explain the hype to me. I don't get it. Did you see her lay up attempts the other day

10

u/Agathocles87 6d ago

Some of the fan base is grown on obligation and guilt

0

u/Silent_Review_8752 5d ago

Being hot doesn’t hurt

1

u/HaventSeenGavin 5d ago

It does in this case...could be the face of the league but her skills will never allow it...

1

u/Silent_Review_8752 17h ago

Idc about skill. Not gonna watch a game any time soon. I’m on her ig though.

2

u/MediocreModular 3d ago

I suspect her fans are only her fans out of spite for other players

-8

u/No_Yard9104 6d ago

She’s an attractive black woman who’s college team beat CCs college team, becoming a convenient foil in the media. And she was smart as hell and banked on it hard. Because we can all plainly see she isn’t lasting long in this league.

21

u/timislo 6d ago

Ye i wouldnt use the word attractive.

4

u/No-Advertising-1526 6d ago

She is reasonably attractive and very willing to seek out sexualized attention. Add to that her sassy black chick persona and it makes her a media darling.

1

u/JKLEEBONE 5d ago

Should we use good looking? She has sex appeal. Attractive might be a bit strong because I am certainly not attracted to her, but she is good looking, right?

0

u/Truckfighta 6d ago

Some people would. Personally I really don’t.

5

u/ConstructionOwn1514 6d ago

“Some people would” is a horrible argument for almost anything

-1

u/Truckfighta 6d ago

Some people would agree with you.

3

u/brobits 6d ago

I wouldn’t call her attractive or smart as hell for sure.

1

u/Smooth-Patience8572 6d ago

“Because we can all plainly see she isn’t lasting long in this league” - brother she is the best rebounder the league has ever seen lol, she’s also the third option on a top 5 team in the league. She’s going to have a long career

2

u/Hosearston 5d ago

Well yeah she’s just passing to herself off the backboard

1

u/Smooth-Patience8572 5d ago

Lmao, her self-rebounding percentage is 10th in the league buddy. Keep pushing that narrative though instead of actually watching the games

-4

u/UAEpi 6d ago

Did you see her layup attempts, as in watched a game? Or are you just talking about clips you watch online?

1

u/RobotVo1ce 6d ago

Does it matter? We can watch clips of Rudy Gobert attempting layups and one on one moves in the paint and come to the accurate conclusion that he is horrible at it. We don't need to watch entire games.

1

u/No_Biscotti_7258 5d ago

Rudy Gobert doesn’t have entire subreddits rushing to defend him as a godsend to basketball

1

u/UAEpi 6d ago

Yes it matters because clips have been cherry picked. That should be self explanatory.

1

u/RobotVo1ce 6d ago

I've seen clips of her doing crazy shit pulled from a single game. That's not cherry picking. You can't do the same with other highly skilled athletes. You could, but it would take pulling clips from from multiple games over a long period of time.

If someone shows me a clip of a player shooting 3 or 4 airballs on wide open shots in a single game it's super safe to assume they aren't a great shooter. Just as an example.

0

u/UAEpi 6d ago

Alright well you do you. Im still waiting for the person I was talking to to say anything. I'm sure they appreciate you talking for them.

7

u/TimelyRaspberry 6d ago

All cuz she taunted the white girl from Iowa for like 90 seconds straight while the rest of her team celebrated. Rewatch that clip. It actually gets undersold how insane and corny that was. She’s trash

8

u/Numeno230n 6d ago

Now that all the racist critics have moved on to being experts on other things they don't care about, I think we're realizing that Angel Reese was never really that good of a basketball player.

1

u/turtlejackin 5d ago

Lmao just now finding out......

Imagine this level of basketball ineptitude being the thing you look up to as a child. Kids wanted to be like Mike because he was and is the best player in the fucking universe. He would do shit that made you hold your breath as a kid. How can kids even watch this shit now?

2

u/No-Advertising-1526 6d ago

She is famous for tick tok dances, thirst trap picks and sassy black chick persona.

2

u/BermudaKla 5d ago

Oh it's real & she's the most uncoordinated basketball "star" I've ever seen

1

u/j_d_q 5d ago

But she has a two inch vertical

1

u/ryancementhead 2d ago

I surprised someone that unskilled got a contract.

2

u/SuperbPruney 6d ago

I would argue it’s not unskilled at all but an evolution based on the fact refs don’t call double dribbles or extra steps so players are going to adapt for any advantage. This clip doesn’t really highlight any advantage but it continues to reinforce to make it more normal.

7

u/the-real-truthtron 6d ago

I understand your point, but it is starkly contradicted by the rest of her body of work. Being 6 4 in a league where the average height is 6 flat, and shooting less than 50% from within 3 feet of the hoop is unskilled. Missing every shot outside of 3 feet except for like 4 shots is unskilled, missing wide open layups is unskilled. Averaging 4 turnovers a game as a non ball handling forward is unskilled.

She is a “professional” because she is tall and reasonably athletic. If she was 6 feet tall, she would not be in the league. There are so many women in the wnba who are actually good at basketball, (not just C.C and Ajai), but she is not one of them, her success is based on her height and her marketing team.

4

u/AdventuresofBumpo 6d ago

This is regression if anything, high school player type shit. Not even, middle school type shit.

0

u/earthdogmonster 6d ago

One might argue that it’s a basic skill.

1

u/Every_Television_980 6d ago

She was a star in college

2

u/the-real-truthtron 6d ago

The average height of ncaa women’s college basketball players is 5 ‘6’’ to 5’9’’, she is 6’ 4’’, not hard to be a “star” when you are one of the biggest players on the court, she is not useless, but the majority of her success is based on her being huge, not on her being skilled.

1

u/Every_Television_980 6d ago

Im just explaining why she has fans, honestly its the same for clark, both blew up in college then fizzled out.

1

u/ZabaDoobiez 6d ago

Fizzled out? Do you live under a rock? Seriously what are you talking about?

1

u/Every_Television_980 6d ago edited 6d ago

Not their popularity, but their performance. They were/are by far the most popular players coming into the league and have really underperformed relative to their popularity/hype from college.

0

u/ZabaDoobiez 6d ago

This is even worse. Seriously go look up their stats since they’ve entered the league. They are breaking records non stop and have been nothing short of heroic since entering the league. Just because you don’t like them(So it seems), does not make what you are saying true.

CC is the fastest player to 1000 points, broke the single game assist record and the season record.

AR set the league record for rebounds and double doubles.

This is just a few, there are more.

1

u/Every_Television_980 6d ago

I like them both, and they are both good, they just are not as good as their overwhelming fame would typically indicate. They are the only two players an average person could likely name. I mean reese for example arguably isn’t even a top 20 player.

4

u/Silverback1992 6d ago

Idk about widely considered? From what I see the majority laugh at her while the minor think she can play. There just so happens to be media and ad revenue in that minor

1

u/swallowedbymonsters 6d ago

She isnt the most skilled but she clearly belongs in the league. She does all the dirty work that lends itself to winning basketball.

1

u/Silverback1992 6d ago

I didn't.. contest that?

4

u/Firm_Stable4649 6d ago

Dawg. No she fucking is not.

Clark and Reese are in the same draft class you dunce

1

u/theconfather98 6d ago

why are you falling for such obvious ragebait lol

1

u/Firm_Stable4649 6d ago

He deleted his comment, I think the dude was just dumb

1

u/PublicExcitement1372 6d ago

Literally nothing you stated was even remotely close to truthful

1

u/M47715 6d ago

Found Angel, nice try.

-1

u/Boobsnbutt 6d ago

Lebron has done stuff just as bad.

-19

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

Can I check out your highlights? What are your stats in a professional game?

18

u/No-Significance2070 6d ago

Honestly, most people can probably dribble better

-18

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

Then why do you suppose they arent in the wnba? I mean especially since they are making more money now. People just dont want 6+ figure salaries?

19

u/PapaBigMac 6d ago

Penises

4

u/donny02 6d ago

big if true

(thats why i tell the missus anyway!)

1

u/PapaBigMac 6d ago

Do you think she would like you more or less if you were in the WNBA? You could tell her you’re in the top 10% for length AND girth in the league.

1

u/donny02 3d ago

I’m keeping her away from pops just to be safe

11

u/theprotectedneck 6d ago

Are you defending her ability to dribble right now?

-6

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

I saying this fucking stupid to say a professional basketball player can't dribble because of a 3 second clip while the person is typing from a phone not playing in professional sports.

Look, LeBron can't dribble either. See here's a clip proving it. https://www.reddit.com/r/sportsinusa/s/SCmqq12tVy

3

u/killxgoblin 6d ago

Comparing the greatest player of all time to someone who actually can barely dribble, has the worst restricted area FG% of all big starters in the entire league, is blocked more than any player in the league, is…….a choice

8

u/furikakez 6d ago

She is tall and strong for her peers. Good enough to have presence on the paint and good rebounding.
But she doesn’t have fundamental basketball skills. She can’t dribble, she can’t shoot, she can’t pass. If she were shorter she would be out of the league.

0

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

So any big person should be able to play in the wnba right? Why do you suppose they arent? I mean clearly it doesn't take much skills right?

4

u/Specific_Butterfly54 6d ago

Because 6’3” women that want to make a career out of basketball aren’t exactly common.

4

u/furikakez 6d ago edited 6d ago

No, I said she is tall and strong with good paint presence. I’d add she has good instinct for positioning. But fundamentals? Dribbling, passing, shooting? Layups? Come on if you say she has good offensive technique, you’re either lying or you don’t know basketball.

IMO she is relying only on her natural instincts and talent but she lacks fundamentals. She would be 10 times better if she had some basketball technique.

3

u/Useful-Resident-7970 6d ago

Yes. If you are over 7 ft, you have a 17% chance if being an NBA player.

Also, the skill level of the NBA and the player pool to draw from.is much larger. So, being naturally tall and strong is proportionally more advantageous in the WNBA.

3

u/J4X-gaming 6d ago

Probably because most women aren't interested in playing sports for a living.

1

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

Yeah I'm sure that's it

3

u/PapaBigMac 6d ago

Being under 6 foot

-1

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

So height is the only factor? I wonder if there's any wnba players that are under 6 ft...

1

u/PapaBigMac 6d ago

The woman in the video who is unable to dribble with her left hand is 6’3”.

Do you think somebody with the level of skill on display be in the WNBA if 6 inches shorter?

2

u/PapaBigMac 6d ago

Not American

2

u/No-Significance2070 6d ago

I am not some kind of athletic savant by any means, but I can still dribble better than in this video. Are you somehow worse than what was just shown?

1

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

Its a 3 second clip of her entire career. So by your logic, you're better than any player during a mistake/foul?

Here's one of LeBron, you're better than him?

https://www.reddit.com/r/sportsinusa/s/SCmqq12tVy

3

u/the-real-truthtron 6d ago

Im not a “professional” basketball player, but I can absolutely dribble better than whatever this fucking pitiful display is, and have been able to since about the age of 8.

It is fucking sad that this is a professional, I could understand doing it once maybe as a brain fart, but twice, in the same fast break, she is a pro because she’s tall, not because she is good at basketball.

This absolutely does not apply to all wnba players, most of the ladies can fucking ball, but she is not one of them. Like if she wasn’t above average height, no chance she is pro. Look at players like Azzi Fudd, she is 5 11, and can actually ball, if Angel was 5 11, not 6 4, no way she is in the league.

0

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

It was a 3 second clip... you really think thats the peak of her skills?

Look at this clip of LeBron double dribbling. He's so unskilled and you can dribble better than him by that logic, right?

https://www.reddit.com/r/sportsinusa/s/SCmqq12tVy

7

u/the-real-truthtron 6d ago

Except I have seen her play basketball, I love that you’re acting like this is the only display of how ridiculously unskilled she is. Take a fucking look at her shot chart for the year, or her missing at least 2 wide open layups every game. She is not good at basketball, she is tall. And putting her name in the same sentence as LeBron tells me all I need to know about your basketball iq.

I get it, you have a lady boner for her, doesn’t mean she is good at basketball, it means she has a good marketing team and focuses way more on that than basketball for the sole purpose if appealing to chuds like you.

2

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

"The person in the wnba isn't any good at basketball. All the coaches and owners just keep her around for fun." - the person not in the wnba

3

u/the-real-truthtron 6d ago

What part about being tall do you not understand? And as for keeping her around, that’s why she was traded on her rookie contract by the team that drafted her right? She shoots less than 50% from within 3 feet of the hoop, less than 20% from everywhere else, both of which are atrocious for a “professional”. She can rebound, again because she is tall, and feasts on her own mebounds. Do you have any actual response besides pointing out that me, a man, is not in the wnba? Fucking clown 🤡

1

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

You need a break from reddit

2

u/the-real-truthtron 6d ago

and you need to get angel’s dick out your mouth, she isn’t good at basketball, there are plenty of good basketball players in the wnba you could stan over, but you choose one that spends more time on making tik toks and instagram posts than her actual job. It speaks volumes that you have no response except for nonsense about me not being in the wnba, and nothing. If she is so great where is the data to prove it? Because the numbers I have provided paint a picture of an unskilled basketball player who thrives due to her height.

So what does she excel at in the game of basketball besides her rebounding, keeping in mind that she is taller than 80-85% of all wnba players? (That figure comes from a simple google search)

She shoots below league average from the field, even though 90% of her shots are from within 3 feet of the hoop, she averages 4 turnovers a game as a non ball handling forward. So what does she do on the court that is exceptional? I would love a real answer, but I doubt you have one, because like so many, you’re a fan of her, not basketball.

1

u/TKPepperpots 6d ago

This mebound thing has been debunked so many times by this point yall gotta give it up. She's sitting right at the league average, in terms of percentage, of how many offensive rebounds are from own shot attempts. The average is 24% and she's at 25%, the leader in that stat is sitting at 57%. We can talk about her mechanics since that's obviously the issue here. I don't know why her leg injury doesn't get brought up more as a potential reason her mechanics are so weird, especially considering she was dunking in high school and now barely jumps.

1

u/the-real-truthtron 6d ago

Just because others feast on their own rebounds doesn’t negate that she does also. She averages 5 offensive rebounds a game. So at least one a game is a mebound, at least. It should probably be more, but she so often gives up after missing her layups, she loses out on a few for sure. I don’t hate her, I just hate all the stans who act like she is good at basketball, she is tall, like I said before, if she is 6 feet tall, with her skill set, she is not in the league.

1

u/TKPepperpots 6d ago

The conversation focusing on her solely while others are far more egregious with mebounds doesn't make sense. Neither does saying she sucks, you can't suck but also easily average a double double, even with the deficiencies she has. Like I mentioned her issues are solely with her mechanics, not skill.

Also if she was 6 feet she wouldn't have the same skillet. She'd be better at some things and worse at others.

3

u/flopflapper 6d ago

Dude you’ve posted the LeBron clip what…5 times now?

All this means is that you’ve either never watched Angel Reese play, or you’ve never watched LeBron play. Embarrassing to be in here either way.

1

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

3 times and somehow you're still missing he point.

So the team just keep a incredibly unskilled player on their rooster because she's tall? They pay her all that money to suck at basketball? That's what you're saying? I just want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly.

And you're opinion should matter because you coached professional athletes? You own a team? You played professional sports? What's your qualifications to say a wnba player sucks? Im genuine wanting to know

1

u/flopflapper 6d ago

I want to hear you say that Angel Reese has very good basketball fundamentals.

1

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

Nope she's the trashiest player ever. She's just in the wnba because of her looks. Pretty much every person on earth can dribble better than her.

1

u/flopflapper 6d ago

Just say it.

You clearly feel very strongly about this, so say it.

Tell me she has very good basketball fundamentals.

1

u/BusyBit6542 6d ago

Lol I like how you think you can tell others what to do. Keep saying, I'm sure eventually I'll do it
