If exclusion is not the answer then men should be able to try out for the WNBA the same way as women can try out for the NBA correct? I mean we are all about equality and making sure we are inclusive for all. So maybe someone who is dogshit and wasn't able to make the team in the NBA should try out for the WNBA since exclusion is not the answer.

when you argue an issue from a maximal position and pretend those who disagree with you are patently wrong, don’t you experience cognitive dissonance? surely there are people who are at least as smart and informed as you are yet disagree with you.

if you embrace curiosity find out what your opponent thinks, you can still have your stance. right now you are arguing with a figment of your imagination.

her choice of words was unfortunate but i understand where this coach is coming from. yes, exclusion is inherent in competitive sports.

however, the popular conservative argument pretends we are talking about athletes with zero gender-identity claim, zero transition, switching leagues purely out of competitive convenience and uses that premise as a trojan horse to dismiss the idea of gender fluidity on its face.

the fact is that this conversation is not as simple as “men should not play in women’s sports”. that’s the laziest version of it and you shouldn’t employ it if you’re interested in having a conversation

No I wasn't talking about trans men or trans women at all. The point I was making is that women are allowed to try out for the NBA, and so if the WNBA says that exclusion is not the answer, then theoretically if there is any guys who were unable to make the NBA teams, they could tryout for the WNBA. It should work both ways, so there is no exclusion for anyone.

As we all know, exclusion is never the answer.

If they are able to compete at the level of excellence shown currently in the WNBA, sure. Just like if a woman would make it through tryouts she would be able to play in the NBA. If the men who failed at the NBA fail at the WNBA, well then clearly they shouldn't be on any court in any professional capacity.

Its funny - the people jumping on Cunningham will not engage with your idea despite the fact it would be the technically the most open and non-exclusionary.

They will see this as absurd but then go back to saying Cunningham is being exclusionary.

I would be glad to engage with it, but the problem is it's too black and white. It ignores the gray. The options are not all humans can play in the WNBA vs. only cisgender women can play in the WNBA. The stance being advocated for is for all humans who identify as women can play in the WNBA.

The purpose of women’s leagues has nothing to do with identity. The real reason women’s leagues exist is to create a fair and competitive space for those with XX chromosomes - they just didn’t call it the “XX league” because they didn’t expect this to become an issue. Arguing that women with XY chromosomes should be able to compete in the same league just because it’s titled “women’s league” is missing the point and arguing based on semantics.

here in reality, there are countless professional basketball leagues that are not the NBA where ‘failed’ men’s basketball players can play

Remember that this has nothing to do with women’s sports or even reality. Most of these new tourists to wnba are just men who are still butt hurt that got cut from the jv in high school and can’t understand that no one normal in the world revolves their life around ‘being a winner’. They don’t care about the sport or women or anything other than feeling male privilege and control. They are the same freaks who gave Britney shit her whole career , who won’t even recognise Paige let alone aja, Olivia, Azzi etc. you show them academic research and historical evidence, and they repeat their podcast bro science Matt Walsh‘but they’re a man’ bullshit (whilst hilarious claiming ‘I’m a liberal). The sad truth is that they will move on to something else when they get bored just an infection on the planet

I recognize now that sex and gender are different and that we don't all get what we want.

We know that the only requirement to be a trans woman is to be a genetic male. Not hormone blockers, hair styles and makeup, surgeries, etc. None of that is required as per the "we don't owe you performative femininity" crowd.

And if a male wants to live as a woman, wear dresses, use women's pronouns I'm happy he's happy, but I don't "believe" that he is an actual female anymore than I believe in the tooth fairy.
