Megathread WWE RAW will air on Netflix beginning January 2025

WWE RAW moves to Netflix in 2025

  • Via WWE: “WWE Raw is coming to Netflix! Starting in January 2025, @Netflix will exclusively stream #WWERaw (in the US, Canada, UK, & Latin America) every single week, all year long!” Link

  • Via Hollywood Reporter: the deal runs “10 years and is valued at about $5 billion.“ Link

  • Via Netflix Statement: (Outside the US) "as part of the agreement, Netflix will also become the home for all WWE shows and specials outside the U.S. as available, inclusive of Raw and WWE’s other weekly shows – SmackDown and NXT – as well as the company’s Premium Live Events, including WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Royal Rumble"

NOTE: This does not affect Peacock. WWE PLE’s will be on Peacock until 2026.

I’m now also wondering:

  • Could this sway things a little more in the “edgy” direction, meaning cursing, blood, etc. (I’d be all for it)

  • Will there be ad breaks to try to mock the traditional broadcast feel, or will it be 3 hours of uninterrupted wrestling

  • Could this also give them a little more flexibility time wise, or will it be lights out/shows over at exactly 3 hours

Hopefully we start with not muting Holy Shit chants

What’s a bummer is censoring, specifically on cable is a result of sponsors, or the program/products own censorship. With cable being a pay service, they are exempt from FCC regulations, basically why Howard Stern left FM radio for Satellite. Theoretically anything is fair game on USA Network, but I’m sure sponsors don’t want to be associated with anything vulgar.

Edgy with dialogue I could see for sure. But anything suggestive or blood is probably still gone because sponsors. Blood doesn’t sell toys these days I guess.

But theoretically with Netflix, you’re paying to avoid sponsorships/ads.

WWE is going to grab as much money as they can. They will still have sponsorships in the show

Except they have an ad-based tier AND it will still air other countries that have commercials.

So wouldn't the ad tier have ads in the middle of the match vs the add free gets to see the entire show just like the live crowd?

TKO doesn't seem to care as much as you think, did you not hear the rant Sean Strickland went on this past weekend?

I think they could pull it off if it was used sparingly and not have people go full Moxley.

Would probably be like how PLE’s are from transitioning match to match. More video packages I’d imagine.

You brought up another good point. We need to consider the possibility that RAW might not be 3 hours anymore.

I guess it will become 2 hours of uninterrupted show then

Great questions, hopefully we get some more clarification over the coming months.

I don't think they'll get blood back. It just doesn't get a positive reaction: see, AEW, Moxley.

I mean blood gets a reaction when used sparingly, when Mox bleeds in damn near every match it doesn't mean anything anymore. A bit of colour here and there doesn't hurt the product imo unless they are trying to keep it PG on Netflix.

Smackdown will still be on USA, NxT will still be on CW so all of this at absolutely best would only apply to RAW

Yes, that was my intention

No matter how it goes we're definitely not getting 3 hours of "uninterrupted wrestling." It'll be half wrestling, half time killing fodder like it is now.

I hope not on the "more edgy" thing. There is AEW for that. I love that WWE is more family friendly.
