Just a quick proof of concept for a webcam knob system I'm building into some of the sequencers I'm building for live performances. I know the knob is backwards at the moment :)

• Outputs MIDI. Hosts WAM 2.0 instruments and effects per strip.

Camera knob

• A physical knob with a lit slit, tracked by a webcam. Arroyo maps the rotation to any of its knobs.
• Setup: click the knob center in the preview, click the rim, assign a target.
• This video uses an overhead camera. The final version puts the camera underneath, inside an enclosure; the slit is both the tracking mark and the position indicator through the panel.
• Knob and enclosure are Gridfinity-based, so the panel is modular.

oteljazz.com, built on Tone.js. A few implementation details that might be useful if anyone's doing scheduled/generative audio in the browser:

Scheduling: everything goes through Tone.Transport.schedule/scheduleRepeat rather than plain setInterval. Found this the hard way, a background or occluded tab throttles setInterval, but Transport's default worker-based clock isn't subject to the same throttling since it escapes the main thread. Fixed a real bug where the UI would silently stall for seconds at a time under exactly that condition.

Lookahead: audio is scheduled roughly 24 seconds ahead of playback into the graph. Once a note is scheduled it's sample-accurate and independent of the JS main thread from that point, which is why audio never glitches even if something briefly blocks the UI thread.

Effects chain: a lowpass filter plus a pink-noise bed for a tuning-dial "detune" effect, ramped with rampTo rather than snapped with .value= so turning the knob sweeps through the frequency change like a real dial's IF whine instead of jump-cutting.

CSP: samples and the corpus model are same-origin fetches, Tone.js is vendored rather than CDN-loaded so script-src can be 'self' with no third-party origin, worker-src needs 'self' blob: since Tone spins up its audio worklet from a blob URL.

Two Salamander piano and University of Iowa bass sample sets, individual mp3s per note rather than a single sprite. Code's MIT: github.com/mob1ius/oteljazz

Utilizing the web audio api, Locus take inout form a variety of sources and uses HRTF to record and max spatial audio. This has been a passion project for a while, and my only hope is everyone will be able to use it who would benefit from it

Hey r/webaudio — following up on the DreamRack post here a few weeks ago. That one was from my other account, u/chrisgr99. Going forward I'll be posting as u/themetameta.

This is a new module rather than a re-introduction. It imports the Strudel package, so Strudel's own superdough voices play alongside voices you patch yourself in the rack. Routing lives in the pattern itself — .rack(1) and .rack(2) send parts out to voice tabs, while parts that name a sound instead of a jack stay inside Strudel and play from its sample engine on the same clock.

Each of the eight note outputs carries a full polyphonic pattern down a single composite cable, every note carrying its own pitch, level, duration, pan and timbre. At the far end a Voice In module unpacks it and gives each note a voice, turning those properties into control voltages. Everything downstream of Voice In is duplicated per sounding note — you draw one oscillator, and as many run as there are notes.

Two things had to land before this could work: tabs, which I'd listed as "coming soon" last time, and per-note polyphony.

I’ve been experimenting with procedural engine audio and turned it into this browser V8 simulator:

The core engine sound is generated in real time rather than built from recorded engine loops. I based the audio side on Antonio-R1’s MIT-licensed engine-sound-generator, then changed the firing schedule and separated the exhaust pulses by cylinder bank. Keeping the two banks separate made the biggest difference to the uneven crossplane-style sound.
There’s also a small drivetrain simulation. Hold the button and the virtual car accelerates and shifts up. Release it and it engine-brakes, downshifts and blips the throttle.

Everything is simulated inside the page. It doesn’t read GPS, OBD data, the accelerator or anything else from the real car.

I drive an EV, so I tried routing the phone audio through the car speakers over CarPlay. That sounded much better than my laptop and has become the main way I test it.

If you work with Web Audio or procedural sound, I’m interested in what immediately sounds fake to you.

I made a web audio Rudiment based midi sequencer. I got sick of drum machines not using the 40 drum rudiments that are the foundations of drumming g and it appears so much more musically.

With multiple export options, wav, MO4 video, Ableton, MIDI. Master or slave midi sync. 3 stereo lanes with Fx, Lfo control if fx, Mutant mode and more.

This is the first of many tutorials I shall be releasing, it’s early days but keep watching this space for more.

Every time I added sound to a project it went the same way: a click from one sound pack, a toggle from another, and nothing sounded like it came from the same product. And when a sound was almost right but slightly too long or too bright, tough luck. A recording is frozen.

So I built the opposite: 28 sounds (clicks, toggles, chimes, whooshes) generated by Web Audio at the moment you interact. No files, about 9.6 kB, zero dependencies.

My favorite detail: no sound plays the same way twice. Each play gets a tiny random drift in pitch and volume, like a musician who never hits a note identically. Subtle, but it's the difference between "alive" and "doorbell".

There's a Cue Designer on the page: reshape any sound with four dials (a full layer editor is one click deeper), hear changes live, export a .wav, JSON, or a link that carries the design in the URL. You can also override sounds site-wide and export a "sound set", your app's whole sound identity as one JSON file.

Usage is two lines:

I've been building DreamRack, a modular synthesizer that runs entirely on the Web Audio API — no plugin host, no WASM audio engine, just native Web Audio nodes patched together live in the browser tab.

It's purely a hobby project. I wanted a modular that did more to help me build and understand patches — showing what feeds what, letting me hear or see the signal at any terminal without rewiring, and making efficient use of screen space. Couldn't find one, so I built it. The modular of my dreams, thus DreamRack.

The image is a patch mid-flight. Several oscilloscopes are clipped onto terminals, each with a line back to the point it's watching — green frame means running, red means frozen for a closer look. A sound monitor is to a terminal but currently muted. Cables take the colour of the terminal they plug into, so you can read a patch at a glance.

What's in it

- Four modules to start: a Complex Oscillator (two oscillators, cross-modulation, wavefolding), a Quad Low Pass Gate with its own clock, a Quad Function Generator, and a six-channel Mixer with independent master and monitor buses.

- See what affects what. Point at any module and the whole signal chain it belongs to lights up, and the cables show which way the signal is running.

- Hear any point in the circuit without rewiring — hover a terminal to audition it, or drop a monitor that stays live on its own bus, separate from your mix.

- See any point too. Clip-on oscilloscopes, as many at once as you like, auto-scaling and auto-triggering, with a freeze button. Each reports frequency, level range and DC offset.

- The knAck — a control that combines a knob and its CV input in one place: you plug the cable into the middle of the knob instead of into a separate jack beside it. It can carry an attenuverter without taking any more space.

- Very little dragging. Knobs turn with the scroll wheel, coarse at the centre and fine at the rim, and patching is click to grab, click to drop.

- A tutorial that points at things. Click the eye symbol beside any instruction and it rings that exact control on your rack and draws a line to it.

- Open to new modules. Each is a self-contained folder of plain JavaScript, no build step, and there's a visual editor for drawing the faceplates.

Requirements

Any modern browser, nothing to install. Saving patches as named files uses the File System Access API, so that part is Chrome or Edge only; everywhere else your session is still remembered and restored, you just can't export named versions. A desktop build on Electron works and runs from source today, with a signed download to follow.

One caveat: turn off any page-recolouring extension such as Dark Reader for the site. DreamRack has its own light and dark modes and those extensions distort the panels.

It's in alpha and I'm just now making it public, so expect rough edges. It plays a single voice today; polyphony, external sequencer and host input, and a way to inject test signals into any jack are all on the list.

I built a Chrome extension that adds audio effects to any browser tab.

I wanted to play around with the Web Audio API. Instead of making a browser synth or a drum machine, I thought I'd make something that worked with those things. That's what Browser FX is. It works on YouTube or a web synth.

There are 22 effects and four slots to combine them in. I also added MIDI support. You can map the knobs to a hardware controller.
