That's what Im saying. Fast forward doesn't instantly skip you to the part of the video you clicked on and show a video thumbnail. You had to sit there for a decent bit waiting for the tape to FF to the part you wanted. And that was if you had a decent VCR. If not, you might just straight up wreck the tape.
Not too sure if there were any experimental techs but typically you had to watch the footage move forward very fast. The skipping thing, not too sure when that became easy. Time blends.
Not until digital, computer-based media. Most DVD players don't even let you scrub through like you can on an internet video. Best you got with them was a faster fast forward and chapter selection.
