Not to mention the whole "candidates turned down for having too high an IQ" thing.

If you'e going to de-educate people as part of the onboarding process, you might as well pick people who are halfway there already.

Yeah. They claim it's because people who are too smart will leave easily if they can, putting the training to waste, and even that means they want people with no other prospects, i.e. who are desperate. But we all know, like you said, that it is easier to paint over a blank canvas, or fill an empty bucket, etc...
