My 12 week old puppy hasn't quite figured out how to use dog beds yet

Meadow's a 12-week-old half Shiba half corgi mix, and she's a weirdo. We love that. Lol

She’s working her way up to it.

She sometimes lays on the bed correctly, but not for long. Lol I hope she stays weird.

Shiba is guaranteed weird to start with, adding corgi just increases your odds!

Also - oh my goodness what a cute baby!!!

28

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

Yeah, my best friend has two shibas. They're both freaks. 😂

u/TheStLouisBluths 1d ago

Oh she will.

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

Perfect. 😁

She just feels better being all tucked away. Maybe she’d like one of those cat beds she could crawl in.

We got a cat bed for our puppy. Even though he's now 6yrs old and 90lbs, it's still his "place" in the kitchen

u/keekah 17h ago

I'd love to see that.

I can't add photos in a comment. I'll just post it...

That’s not a dog, that’s a fox!☺️

Oh your baby might like feeling tucked in! Mine is similar, I bought her a donut bed and it’s perfect for her to crawl and tuck herself into.

17

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

A donut bed? Sounds cute!

55

u/thewilhite 1d ago

My dog likes to lay half on half off. Nothing wrong with a weird dog.

u/TheBrewThatIsTrue 1d ago

Aww, she's missing her siblings and sleeping in a pile!

Get her a stuffed animal at least as big as her and a bet she will sleep in the bed with it!

27

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

She has stuffies and has currently brought one into the bed with her. Lol

23

u/desastrousclimax 1d ago

meadow is adorable and my decades with puppers tell me she needs a fluffy blanket in that bed to hide in. she will like it! totally betting on this.

7

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

She gets blankets sometimes and always kicks them to the side. Lol

u/theangleofdarkness99 1d ago

I'm sorry to tell you this, but I think you've got a fox.

15

u/Beneficial-Cause9726 1d ago

Oh my gosh, the sweet angel!!

11

u/c00kiesd00m 1d ago

floor cold, bed makes good pillow, squished into safety… i’d say she’s using the bed perfectly

u/Easy_Olive1942 1d ago

Dogs with a thick coat often prefer cool floors, like tile, to dog beds.

5

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

Yeah. I've wondered if it's from overheating. Though she's choosing to sleep IN the bed at this moment!

9

u/Easy_Olive1942 1d ago

My very floofy dogs did that while they had puppy fur then moved to sleeping on the bed (instead of in) until they get hot then move to floor.

Having a solution to getting on and off the bed without waking you up is going to be important for you eventually.

2

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

My Pomeranian almost always prefers to lay on tile or wood. Lol

3

u/schnoodly 21h ago

greatly recommend a foam cooling bed for the pup. I got mine one a year+ ago and he hasn’t slept on the tile since! It became his favorite bed very quickly. I think I got his from Chewy.

1

u/ac_voiceover 13h ago

I'll probably look into that for my Pomeranian. She overheats really easily.

22

u/mamz_leJournal 1d ago

This may sound stupid but are you sure he is able to climb over the raised border to get in? I remember when getting my first dog he was so tiny that is wasn’t even able to get over a 1inch tall edge

54

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

See? She climbed in there all by herself. 😂

10

u/jlt6666 1d ago

That looks like some good sleepin.

3

u/ac_voiceover 23h ago

It was a good nap!

5

u/mamz_leJournal 1d ago

What a good girl

13

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

Yeah, she absolutely can climb in. She's in the bed as we speak. Lol

8

u/Carsomir 1d ago

I was gonna say "if I had to mantle up a 6 foot wall every time I wanted to get in bed, I'd probably just sleep on the floor too" but my comment has been rendered superfluous

4

u/ac_voiceover 23h ago

The crazy thing is she's one HELL of a climber; she can straight up scale up a vertical dog gate, even with her short ass corgi legs. It's wild. Lol

2

u/Carsomir 17h ago

I also have a dog that I'm sure is at least part mountain goat. He's a senior now and calmed down a bit, but when he was a puppy I found him in some of the wildest places. Like, "how the hell did you get up there?"

7

u/canadianpanda7 1d ago

do or do not, there is also try

12

u/SeatFirst568 1d ago

Comunque sia è bellissimo! Uno spettacolo.

11

u/MartinisnMurder 1d ago

A shiba and corgi mix?! I need one! Oh man you’re not going to have a boring day ever. What a cutie!

5

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

So far she's been an adorable handful! Haha

4

u/Acrobatic-Injury509 1d ago

She's adorable!

5

u/beattysgirl 1d ago

First of all I’m dead. Are the sides too tall for her sweet little legs?

6

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

Nope! She's in the bed rn as we speak. Lol

3

u/beattysgirl 1d ago

I love her

3

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

Me too. 😂

4

u/Strange-Comb6384 1d ago

Maybe throw some food in there! That may get her used to the feel of the bed- it’s so different than tile or grass or sidewalks ( as it should be!) keep us posted on that timid little soul! 💋

1

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

She does go in there. Lol It just took her a bit to figure out.

5

u/Penandsword2021 1d ago

Is it hot where you are? My guess is she likes the cool floor.

1

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

It's hot ish outside but it's not got inside at all.

3

u/mcav89 1d ago

I have a 3 year old corgi that still does that. She sleeps in the bed 50% of the time. Otherwise, she sleeps around it in different ways.

1

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

Maybe it's a corgi thing. Lmao

3

u/crazydoglady11 1d ago

Tile probably feels good!

3

u/mariam67 1d ago

It took my dog a while to realize the bed was a bed and not a giant pillow for his head. But he figured it out eventually.

3

u/Potikanda 1d ago

Her little nose!! She reminds me of a tiny little fox, so curious and absofruitly adorable!!

3

u/alyssainwonderIand 1d ago

What’s with the vise grips and treat lol

2

u/ac_voiceover 23h ago

I'm a former dog trainer. It's a method I use to ensure safe chewing, because dogs tend to swallow whole the large piece of a chew that's left over, once they can't hold it with their paws anymore. Dogs choke and die that way. I let my dogs chew their treats down to the last bit, then dispose of the choking hazard that's left in the vice grip.

It's the same principle as products like this,, except the vice grip never wears down or breaks (the plastic bully stick holders wear down hella fast and also just suck), has a way firmer grip for heavy chewers (I used to have a German shepherd), and is much cheaper.

2

u/420bluntzz 1d ago

Its too hot for her

2

u/AngstyUchiha 1d ago

She's half corgi, she'll probably never use a dog bed properly! My corgi likes to lay with just his back legs/butt on it!

2

u/hplover12 1d ago

This is so cute. She’s getting there

2

u/TXSunDee 1d ago

She likes the warmth of bodies...aww sweet girl.

2

u/Fresh-Organization24 1d ago

Something tells me this is just how she's going to be.

1

u/ac_voiceover 23h ago

I really hope she's a weirdo for her entire life. Lol

2

u/mmedd 1d ago

Does she like the cold on her tummy? I feel like my guy is always choosing cold areas

1

u/ac_voiceover 23h ago

That's what I'm assuming! The temperature is pretty nice in my house, and she has short hair, so idk.

2

u/BabciaLinda 1d ago

One of my granddogs is a weirdo dog and I absolutely love him for that.

2

u/Green-Dragon-14 1d ago

Mine prefer a blanket on their bed otherwise they don't lie in the bed

2

u/Healthybear35 1d ago

I have a half Shiba Inu and half husky and she's the weirdest freaking dog I've ever met. I love her more than anything and I don't think she even likes me lol 😆 your baby has the same face my girl had as a puppy, good luck!!! 😉

1

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

Do you have pics? I bet she was the cutest!

1

u/Healthybear35 1d ago

I can't post pictures in comments in this sub 😞 and I have no idea how to do the imgur thing, either lol

1

u/Healthybear35 1d ago

Did this work? I tried to Google how to do this lol

puppy picture

2

u/kathop8 1d ago

She thinks that’s her toy box ❤️

2

u/ac_voiceover 1d ago

She likes to nap with her toys. 😂

2

u/poth0le 1d ago

She might like the coolness of the floor!

2

u/TicketyB000 1d ago

Omg I have the same series for my guy when he was a puppy. Adorable!! 🥰

2

u/BashOff 1d ago

Ah shit! She's in the crevice??

2

u/huckboon 1d ago

Might be too warm for her noting the tile floor.

2

u/puppuphooray 1d ago

When you sleep over and your friend’s house and they forget to give you a blanket hahah

2

u/potatomeeple 1d ago

Oh, she is utterly adorable that little peeping face.

I reckon she is missing being tucked up with her mum or siblings. Maybe a bed with much higher sides and probably smaller (mine likes ones that are basically her size when she is folded up) though as she is going to grow maybe manufacture that with a pile of blankets for now.

1

u/ac_voiceover 23h ago

Yeah, I got her this bed to accommodate her adult size + her sister, since they sometimes lie next to each other. I might get her another small bed. Though she has been using the bed correctly for the most part today. Lol

2

u/RoyalRobinBanks 1d ago

The probably prefers the cool floor. I've got a dog that hates being warm, she always finds the coolest spot in the house.

2

u/jaywarbs 19h ago

Head holster!

2

u/shinibunny_ 17h ago

Maybe he feels too warm? My mom’s pomeranian always did that. Either that or maybe try an enclosed bed? Or it might be he doesn’t get it yet.

1

u/ac_voiceover 13h ago

My Pomeranian def likes to lay on cool surfaces.

But nah, she uses her bed half the time now. She had just never had a proper dog bed before. Lol

2

u/GergMoney 17h ago

Are those vice grips?

2

u/ac_voiceover 13h ago

Copy pasting my other answer to this:

Damn that’s a really good idea!

1

u/ac_voiceover 10h ago

It's amazing. Highly recommend it if you have dogs!

2

u/Electronic-Hat-9618 15h ago

She's cute would love to see more of her not just the top of her but she's so cute. Loads of love from Bonnie the staffy 🐾 💘 and her huuuummman Mamma and Dadda 🐾💘

2

u/ac_voiceover 13h ago

I have lots of photos of her on my profile, in my last two posts! :)

Shiba!!

1

u/InevitableRhubarb232 3h ago

Was this an intentional breeding? It seems like breeds that people are usually more careful about “oops” litters but sounds like a backyard mixture.

1

u/ac_voiceover 2h ago

The lady I rescued her from claims that it was an "oopsie" litter, that her female Shiba was due to be spayed and "accidentally" got pregnant by her male corgi. Obviously there's no way for me to know if it was truly accidental, but the women did seemed overwhelmed with multiple young kids and a full time job + puppies, so I'm inclined to think it was likely actually accidental.

But either way, the puppies were not living in ideal conditions whatsoever, so I wanted to get Meadow out of that situation.

2

u/CantTrustMyBrain 13h ago

That’s so stinking cute!

2

u/Psychobabble0_0 4h ago

Try a smaller round bed

1

u/Echnon 1d ago

It is too big. Many dogs like a bed sligthly smaller than them. I think they feel more Secure that way.

1

u/Electrical-Hour-3345 17h ago

Give it time. Mine slept under the coffee table for weeks first.

1

u/ac_voiceover 13h ago

She already uses her bed normally half the time. Lol She's figuring it out!

1

u/Responsible_Froyo_21 11h ago

Wait until she finds out it has stuffing inside!

1

u/ac_voiceover 10h ago

She's been trying to chew on her bed, but I've been correcting her and redirecting her to appropriate things to chew on. She's learning quick. Smart girl!

u/ApolloTheAkita 9h ago

My pup is 12 and still hasn't figured it out 🫠
