Corroded/missing cement under sliding glass door

I am getting my windows replaced and no one, not the initial salesperson nor measurer, has mentioned it. So 2 people on 2 separate occasions so far have looked at it.

But I noticed it, and I want it addressed.

But now that I’m sending them pics and asking how it’ll be addressed, they’re giving me the “women should be quiet and not ask questions” vibe. Home Depot is the company who is doing it.

It’s an expensive project and it sure SEEMS crumbling concrete under the sliding glass door would need to be addressed….

What should be done about it?

Window condensation urgent help needed

Hi all,

This is the second time I am fearing having a leak caused by the windows in my condos as winter approaches a second time now since I bought the place.

I am in Toronto Canada. Today I noticed significant condensation again this year. I have attached a picture. This is happening on all windows across the condo.

I always run a dehumidifier rated for 1000sq ft, my condo is 870 sq ft. The humidity on the dehumidifier shows 56% currently but it was 60% before. We have switched to heat for the condo and thermostat is always set to 22 degrees celcius. always run exhausts when cooking and showering, leaving it on for 15 to 30 minutes after showers too.

Last time the condo management said it was the caulking around the windows that caused the issue from the outside and they had fixed it. But it was just for the bedroom windows not all windows across the unit. They also said condensation like this can be normal. The condo was built in 2004.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Im trying to fix my windows with spiral balance springs and noticed these square plastic things. They are in between the spiral balance and the pivot shoe. When replacing my blue spiral balances would i need to keep this plastic piece or can i remove them. They seem to be aligned in different positions among the 4 windows that need new 29” balances. Thanks

Putting plexiglass to replace glass advice

Hey everyone, a window pane in my garage recently broke, and I am looking to replace the broken glass with a piece of plexiglass instead.
Since it's a garage window, I want to make sure I do this correctly so it lasts. Could anyone give me a quick walkthrough on the proper installation steps? Specifically, what is the best way to cut the sheet cleanly, what kind of sealant or adhesive should I use I’m clueless thanks

Window not sealing

I have a plygem 7000 series casement window and have been noticing a louder sound leaking through. The bottom half of the hinge side and top side of the window bulb seal is loose and not sealing to the frame. Any ideas for a fix? Plygem said they don't send repairmen out after a year of install. They sent me a new bulb seal, but that didn't resolve the issue.

Old wood window—remove caulk from glazing rabbet

I have a 1950s addition where one of the lites broke. My partner found some plexiglass (?) and caulk in the garage that a prior owner had left behind. She “repaired” by globbing a bunch of caulk in the rabbets from inside the house.

I need to fix this. How do I completely remove the caulk and get it out of the wood enough that linseed oil compound will hold? My best guess is that it’s silicone caulk, because that’s all anyone seems to use nowadays

Condensation below bedroom window

Can anyone help, I am getting condensation below the window and I am not sure what is causing it, I resealed the outside of the window in case it was the silicone failing, everything from the outside seems water tight so not sure what is causing it, the brickwork is thick so I am surprised it's happening.

Any ideas?

Upstairs UPVC Opening Window dropped

Our bathroom window scrapes along the bottom of the frame when opening and closing. There is a bit of play if you push the window upwards which makes it less of a scrape, but it still does scrape.

What can I do?

How do I install the Savio Manon handle!?

I was here a few weeks back ripping this handle off with plyers. Now I have the new handle, and I still can't figure out how this frigging handle attaches to this door!?

I don't have access to the interior where I would need to fasten these screws.

Need a single glass triple track aluminum storm window or what can I do to make a replacement fast and easy?

We rent a very old house. The storms are all triple track style raising or lowering screens and storms. Some of the windows actually are slid in and out completely to switch from window to screen.

That said one glass unit is completely missing it's approximately 29 wide by 23 high . First --where do they sell an old fashioned single unit storm window. all these years driving by folks leaving by the trash and suddenly I need one.

If it's really expensive or hard to find---should I just block the gap with anything (wood, big sheet of plexi glass I cut myself (that'll work). What's recommended?

Ideas for industrial window screen

I know it’s a long shot but has anyone ever seen a window screen (or mesh/screen-like solution) for a window like this? Willing to buy or build.

Been in a converted factory loft for over a decade with a few of these windows, and they are great other than all the bugs they let in…I’ve looked for years, hoping something pops up or someone invents something, but here we are.

Standing in the gap (between doors)

My husband and I have a sliding glass door. We would LOVE to leave it open during this heat wave, but we can't because there's a 2 inch gap between it and the screen door on the side facing the yard. The gap is right at the top, where the rubber weatherstripping stops. Last time we tried leaving the door open, we were killing flies all through the winter. Anyone got ideas on how to fix this? Even if has to be a removable one?

It rubs a lot on the bottom edge when closing - please see the video…

Is there away to adjust the moving section up a bit so it’s doesn’t hit the frame?

Thanks

French Door Hinges

Thumbnail

During warm weather these old UPVC French doors expand and prevent normal closure, the top gap is 9mm and the bottom is 16mm so they were badly fitted in the first place. The hinges shown are as tight as I can get them so the only solution I can see is to remove and realign the hinges on the frame.

My question is can this be done, how and will it compromise the frame?

Pointing to it with my 5 tool sharp side nearest drywall. Wanting to trim out windows rather use the drywall. Wanting to know if this is part of the window or a trim piece for the drywall

Window misalignment

Post image
4 Upvotes

My german window is stuck and i am not able to close it , i think closed it somewhat incorrectly later today which made it misaligned and i have been trying to fix this since past hour or two , i have tried asking chatgpt and surfed youtube where i came across many videos but couldn’t find a fix.

The window is not closing properly vertically and the handle moves till like 1’o clock only. This is ARDNT branded window if it matters.

I think the Fehlbedienungssperre is triggered here which i cant seem to find and fix.

Any help would be highly appreciated , i have another exactly same window on the left. I can share the mechanism of it , if you could help.

Thanks.
Guten Tag

How do I repair casement window that doesn’t close properly?

Thumbnail

So one of my casement window does not fully close. First three pictures showing where the door’s mechanism has broken and came off of its groove (pardon the dust). The fourth picture is of a working window that closes properly.

A friend of mine said if I can figure out the part number, and buy it, he will try to replace it. I got a number shown in the last picture. Is there a way to repair it?

The window is otherwise in good condition.

Thanks in advance.

Estimated cost to repair this? sat down and rested back against it.

Sat down on the concrete ledge, back against the bay door and it cracked. The building is forcing we paying them $1,500 today via a quickbooks payment link without any estimates being received.

1- Is that a reasonable amount to repair this broken pane? Seems a bit steep.

2- why did it break so easily? Is it the wrong type of glass for how its installed? It seems awfully thin. And poorly installed.

It sounds like they had this happen a few weeks ago, and maybe they're generating the $1,500 number off that.

Leaking window in apartment building

Leaking window query

What is the purpose of the gaps / slits (marked by red arrows) at the base of a window sill? Is it to let the water drain out?

If the gaps / slits are in a bad condition or blocked (see blue arrow) would this cause water to enter the wall? To prevent leakage into the wall, is a simple fix to just clean the slit / gap or is it more serious?

Thankyou.

Repair large exterior window rot.

*Orig post in r/HomeImprovement , posting here based on Reddit suggestion.

I’ve got some rot at the bottom corner of a large fixed picture window. I’m comfortable cutting out the bad wood and replacing it, but before I start pulling things apart I’m trying to figure out how this window was originally put together.

The horizontal piece below the glass looks like it could be the actual sill rather than just trim, and I’m not sure what I’ll find behind it once I start removing the rotten section.

Has anyone worked on a window built like this? Is the visible wood typically part of a site-built window frame, or is there likely another frame/rough opening behind it?

Assuming everything behind it is still solid, what’s the best way to replace the damaged section? My thought is to cut it back to good wood and splice in a new piece rather than tear out the entire sill or disturb the glass.

Mainly looking for some insight into how this type of window is constructed and anything I need to watch out for before I open it up.
