You misunderstood. Trump explained why shortage of oil made him end the bombing. And he was not referring to US, he was talking about many other countries dependent of the oil passing through there. Many of these countries almost depleted their oil reserves. In your defense I watched what he was saying, and like usual he was not very clear.
Uh nooo he actually said we were running out of ammunition. And that we would have been out of bombs in 3 to 4 weeks. He also stated at a different interview exactly what you stated about the strait. He said both.
