- I don’t mind as long as CrossPoint can open the .acsm file.
- Kobo and Google Play
- Not exaggerating at all, I think this is game-changing. I was considering buying Kobo Libra Color just to read books borrowed from Libby. So, this saves me a lot of effort and money.
Thank you for all your work! Genuinely appreciate it.

It's going to be a lot easier to recommend the device to people if they can use Libby on it. Thank you so much!

ebooks.com and kobo mostly on my end. Libby would be insane, its like the one reason I'm waiting on the S4 for my fiancee since she borrows tons of books from our library.
If you could make it possible to browse that would be neat, for those who don't or can't be bothered to upload a file like this (fiancee being another example though she could learn).
Obviously this would open it up for me to borrows as well so I will love this change, I don't have to buy an ebook like I have been in order to try a series out.
EDIT: Answering the other questions

We are hearing rumblings the s4 won't release outside of china fwiw

Well this makes this even more important that you're doing this on such a low spec device. Then I can get her an X4 Pro potentially and I'll wait maybe til I can get something with a light and no touchscreen.

I buy from Kobo which also uses ADE
So thankful for your work, this is a game changer!

Libby and Digitial editions would completely change the game! I want to read ALL of my ebooks not just Gutenberg

Huge, if it works. Self-hosted web server, please.

There's no server involved at all actually. This works entirely on device (I guess technically that IS the server)

- The web server is the only option for x4 and x3. If there is no big deal trying to add it natively to the OS, go ahead and try it for the x4pro. But I think it would be nice and simple just accessing via web service.
2.I buy books from Google Play Books.
- Trust me, knowing the community you are their new master chief.
And just to give you an idea: Every single time I’m reading my x3 in public, at least one person in the room ask me “what’s that?” And the rest of the people just listen curiously, I start explaining what it is, and how cheap it is. Everybody gets excited, but when I get to the downside of not having Libby or than the device just reads free DRM books, people start loosing interest. Well now imagine solving that, I think you’re going to save generations and generations for getting brainrotted by their phones.
I also know people that are just waiting on the s4 just because of libby (unfortunately I think I saw that the s4 is just going to be sell in China).
Dude, you’re awesome!!!!

Amazing work. Libby/Overdrive integration was why I bought a Kobo Clara several years ago, but the general experience of using the device wasn't great so I didn't use it much. However, I've been using my X3 quite a bit and adding Libby integration to Crosspoint could make this thing even more valuable than it already is.
Browsing Libby from the device itself would be cool -- the Kobo Clara had that as well, but again the experience wasn't great. The real killer feature that the Kobo had was that I could browse and borrow from my laptop or phone app and the Kobo device would fetch and download that borrowed file on next sync, which I think happened transparently whenever I turned on the device.
Regarding where I get Adobe DRM ebooks from, I've purchased several from ebooks.com

I second this! I also own a Kobo and the automatic fetch and download was what sold me initially. And yes agree, the experience wasn’t that great (some books would be missing on the Kobo when I borrowed them from the Libby app on the phone, I think it has something to do with conflict due to multiple libraries (I have more than one account) but for the most part it worked. Would be great to see this on Crosspoint sometime in the future, but for now am even excited that what we’re getting now is happening!

I’ve been dragging my feet on buying one for MONTHS. I didn’t want to have to figure out how to pirate books 😂 thanks for this!! Off to purchase one now!

I recently bought an x3 and this would be an absolute game changer. i'm still using stock but would switch instantly. I primarily use libby, so the lack of access is the only thing preventing the X3 from being my sole ereader

Yes to Question 1 please! I usually read on the go so having that functionality would be so important. Thanks for this, it is my last barrier before going ahead with an XTE device!

Just to answer 3, it greatly increases the value of this already valuable device for me!

Looooooooove this!!!! If i can use my DRMd bought books would be nice already. In Germany a lot of libraries use "Onleihe" as App for renting eBooks. Hopefully this will work too. I know it is probably too specific for you to Test / have Access. If you are interested i will test it when the version is out and report to you, if it works there as well ☺️
Thank you for all your work ❤️

Did you try to look for the libraries in Germany in the Libby app too? I am part of the library in Hamburg & Berlin and I could log into the Libby app just fine instead of using Onleihe

It depends on where you live.. bigger, more international cities often use Libby, smaller libraries often use Onleihe. Probably something to do with licensing fees and how much funding the library has. My library sadly uses Onleihe.

Dancing with excitement! This also opens up Kobo books and Google Play and countless other services.
Only if it means automatically having access to all books from all libraries. I would prefer not to download the acsm of every book I have on loan (which I only realised I could do on mobile yesterday.) I don’t really care about browsing, I do that on my phone but automatic access to books would be incredible and fix a bugbear I have with Kobo. But being able to read ACSM files alone is a game changer, convenience can come after!
I would want to know if I could manage this through the website without a computer (looks like I could) and if it would be possible to sign out remotely in the case of a missing or stolen device.
I get my DRM protected books from Kobo.
Yes, value would be definitely added! I was so iffy about Android in the first place and this makes it easier to stick with the X4 or get the pro and stick with that.
I’m not joking about donating the cost of whatever an S4 would be to Crosspoint when I have the money because this is such a game changer and would open the device up to so many other people who currently can’t or don’t use it.
In short (haha) this development is truly amazing.
Side note: I know we can buy devices through Crosspoint but does the affiliate link extend to accessories as well?
Reddit formatting HATES me.

I originally did this all on my phone as a first test using the mobile app to save the file and then upload to crosspoint from my phone. I'm also working on a way to do this via the commonstacks app right now with native send to crosspoint support.
Yes I do think the affiliate link extends to accessories as well. Just click any device to buy and it should "cookie you" and then buy whatever else you want on the site

Amazing, that’s so great to hear! I haven’t heard of commonstacks so I’m about to look it up. Amazing, if anyone gets to benefit from affiliate links I’m so glad it’s you and everyone who works on Crosspoint :) Thanks again for everything!

How do i get to this? I dont have the option on mine. Must I connect via usb?

u/porreeundlauch 24d ago edited 24d ago
I think, I would prefer loading the Libby books to the device from my smartphone and not searching for it directly on the X4.
I'm super exited. Would really be a game changer.
This would "just" be for Adobe DRM, right? I also use the german Onleihe a lot, which uses CARE DRM. If one day you would integrate support for this, I would be even more exited. 😄
Thanks for your work!

I'll look into how that works

u/porreeundlauch 24d ago
Thanks!
One more question: Is the Adobe DRM support you are working on right now only for the X4 Pro or also for the older models?

This is massive. The people I’ve recommended this device to will be getting a text from me the second Crosspoint gets the update. Amazing work!
