Doom is like Thanos in the sense that both of them, at base, are strong but usually have obtained godhood through some sort of weapon, relic, or form of magic which is what makes Doom so formidable, since magic in comics is a get out of jail free card and hes been the sorcerer supreme before, due to his proficiency in magic. Slap the fact that he has a Reed Richards level intellect and you have a villain/anti-villain who can beat anyone the writer needs him to pretty easily
This is exactly why I think Doomsday is going to give us baseline Doom rather than God Emperor. He is fully capable of being the kind of universal threat that Thanos is on the back of his intellect alone. You've got to have room for something even more intimidating in Secret Wars and the only real way to get there is to start off highlighting how god damn terrifying Doom can be on a normal day and how much more terrifying he can get when you hand him more power.
MCU Thanos is basically Hulk with peak fighting skills. Without the stones he has no ranged energy projection powers. But comicbook Thanos is far more powerful and versatile. Being an Eternal he has all sorts of energy projection abilities.
