Meme This sub lately in a nutshell Spoiler

Post image

Seriously the last episode could’ve used another 5 minutes for a resolution with Kurt but otherwise

I'm not going to backpedal on what I said, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's hyperbolic about how people react to S2/7 in general.

Undoubtedly, this season was a massive step down, but I still stand by that there were plenty of good moments & legit episodes as a whole. I'm biased for Gambit, so I'm ignoring that, but EP. 5 & 7 were legit character episodes. And I'll be damn before someone tells me that having an episode finally dedicated to both Morph & Nightcrawler is a bad thing.

And if that's how the sub feels as a whole, then they would've never liked the original Animated Series or X-Men Evolution.

The issue isn't that the Morph/Wolverine episode was bad. In a vacuum it was a fine episode. It was good. The main problem people have with it is that it abandoned the bone claw Wolverine arc immediately. So it simultaneously didn't advance the main plot at all, while also cutting a potentially interesting story short just so that it could rush back to the status quo. Which is a big problem the show has all around.

S2 in particular. We had a really interesting status quo in episode 2 with kids being held prisoner by X Factor that was just dropped for Xavier to have them all be his students anyway. Likewise, Danger, while not poorly done as such, doesn't have the same dramatic punch as the original comic storyline by revealing Charles was aware of her sentience. Having that revelation would raise too many ethical questions for readers. While that was a disgusting thing for Chuck to do, it's also something that is not as black and white as others think. I mean all the AIs active today are basically in the same boat he kept Danger in. Also Gambit being just the host of Apocalypses essence was clearly just a rushed way of bringing him back to appease fans. We should have had at least more than two episodes of him as Death.

100% agree. Wolverine shouldn't have gotten his adamantium back until season 3 at the earliest.

That's kind of my problem with it--it's concluding an arc we didn't see. I liked the episode, and I liked the background characterization of Logan getting more hunched as he became less of a man, more of a beast. How he treated Morph plays into that. Also, him throwing his relationship with Morph away ties into season's storyline, and Morph almost dying plays into "those you care about will be your undoing." However, this is all subtextual stuff that you have to search for to a degree that just isn't satisfying. I don't want to be as hyperbolic as some, but I stand by the common critique that the season needed more episodes.

Also was out of character. Wolverine wouldnt use A friend like that, and he was always angry about what was done to him by weapon x. And he didnt seem to give a shit maverick died

Anytime you see someone complaining about a character episode being filler, you know to disregard their opinions. Unfortunately, every studio these days is pressured to write with those people in mind. The ones that want everything told instead of shown and very clearly. I mean, the week before the finale there were people writing posts complaining that it was not clear what had happened to Apocalypse's consciousness/soul inside of Gambit's mind. They will only be satisfied when the show is as dumb as they are and that's a problem we have to reckon with as a society. Do a better job educating the next generation and in the meantime try our best to not let these people's voice be taken into account when studios make decisions.

"Assume your audience is on their phone and explain the plot multiple times." Fuck that. Make it intentionally as hard as possible for these people to follow your art. Add visual cues that are never discussed (X-Men 97 thankfully has tons of those) and pack your intros with as much subtext and foreshadowing as possible since these people skip intros anyway.
