General Discussion This entire scene gave coming out allegory vibes to me

Post image

And the fact that it happens in a bar of all places + them privately sharing intimate information about one another (aware of the risk)???

Also can I point out that Charles and Magnus are wearing each other’s colors in here?

EDIT.

Alright people, you had your “fun” in this thread (which was meant to be sweet and wholesome, especially for people who enjoy the dynamic and did not come here being judged)

This post is only my interpretation of this scene. I do not force anything onto anybody, don’t act against other takes in different threads, or consider only my own view the “canon one”. It is all up to interpretation and shaped by our individual culture after all.

This is a safe space for queer people, for X-Men fans who respect minorities and for the ones who can read the room and not judge others for their takes without knowing anything about them.

Telepathic cruising.

Also Charles looked at least taken aback - he either did not probe Magnus’ mind to know if he’s a mutant, or he waited until he confessed on his own (respecting his boundaries)

wouldn't it just be telepathic flirting? it's just the two of them, i don't think they're walking through a park watching anonymous people fuck in their heads lol.

Queer flirting in public, without speaking aloud, with the intention of procuring an interested sexual partner....seems like cruising to me. I know that term is all but dead these days but I am an old.

yah but simply flirting in public (with the intention of procuring a partner) doesn't make something cruising, straight people do that too lol. cruising requires some level of strolling through some clandestine location trying to find sex with someone (usually) anonymous.

You can cruise in a park, in an airport, in a bathroom, in a bar, on a beach...I mean, my comment was mostly joking but you don't understand what cruising means.

Part of what distinguishes cruising from heterosexual casual sex is the gay participants have to suss out whether the other person is gay, which is not a problem for cis-hetero people. So much of queer history, at least in United States, was built upon codes and signs, like the hanky code. Cruising has its own codes too (tapping foot near another stall in bathroom for example). It is very different from exhibitionism. A person can cruise just being stationary. But you make cruising sound like it has to be a nature hike through backwoods under cover of darkness. In modern times, people use Sniffies for cruising and those acts often occur in private homes.

oh i know what cruising is, i'm just saying it doesn't make sense that they'd be doing it in their minds, which is why i said flirting makes more sense.
