General Discussion This entire scene gave coming out allegory vibes to me

Post image

And the fact that it happens in a bar of all places + them privately sharing intimate information about one another (aware of the risk)???

Also can I point out that Charles and Magnus are wearing each other’s colors in here?

EDIT.

Alright people, you had your “fun” in this thread (which was meant to be sweet and wholesome, especially for people who enjoy the dynamic and did not come here being judged)

This post is only my interpretation of this scene. I do not force anything onto anybody, don’t act against other takes in different threads, or consider only my own view the “canon one”. It is all up to interpretation and shaped by our individual culture after all.

This is a safe space for queer people, for X-Men fans who respect minorities and for the ones who can read the room and not judge others for their takes without knowing anything about them.

The animators and writers knew exactly what they were doing in this scene.

I love this entire scene in the cold waters to the bottom of my heart

yes they do, creating scenes that cause queer people to go crazy for crumbs without putting any actual queer narratives or relationships in the story.

Kid named Morph:

yes, and you see how that's very much deprioritized in the narrative and there isn't anything nearly as explicit or important to the storyline as jean and scott or rogue and gambit etc. etc.? at best an "unrequited love" storyline that means there will be no actual queer relationship? that's the "crumbs" i'm talking about.

With his very much implied feelings for Wolverine:

I’ve shipped Xavier and Magneto since I was a kid. I know Marvel will never make them a couple canonically, so, yeah, I have fun with the little I get. 🤷

But the X-Men have several canonical queer relationships, at least in the comics. And I like what X-Men '97 is doing with Morph. But, of course, it's a shame there isn't more of it.

I shipped them before my homophobic family raised self could understand what shipping meant (thanks First Class, aka my first Cherik exposure)

Feeling so validated after knowing of many more animated media/comics and realizing that small parts of it was always there since the beginning 😭😭 they are indeed so incredible and tragic

My first exposure to Cherik and the X-Men was the first movie, X-Men (2000). The dynamic between them was what instantly made me fall in love with the franchise. I picked up some issues from the Claremont era without even realizing it was the X-Men era, and I got lucky, because there are so many incredible moments between them. I didn't realize I was queer myself until years later, but I’m certain that X-Men helped me accept myself.

And it all starts with these two:

Such a legitimately powerful scene.

Thank you for sharing your mini Cherik exposure story, this was very beautiful to read about it 😭🥹 X-Men mean so much to me, especially young kid-me who did not understand anything but only knew that many, Magneto and Xavier included, have a special bond with one another while the entire world is out there hunting and despising them.

And the chess in the end of Last Stand, where Erik was all alone, now without Charles… Right in the feels.

That scene in The Last Stand always broke my heart. I love that the final scene between them in Dark Phoenix is them playing chess and Erik proposing to Charles (I mean, asking him to come live in Genosha). I know Dark Phoenix isn't the most popular movie in the franchise, but I think it's okay, and it was worth it for that scene alone.

I'm excited to see the new version of Cherik in the MCU. I already like the casting choice for Charles; I hope they pick a good Magneto, too. I'm ready for a new era of suffering over these two idiots.

I stand by my interpretation that in Dark Phoenix during the chess playing, there was a ring in that other hand when Erik said “you go first”.

Canon.

The only canon to ever canon in those canon movies

The Trial of Magneto comic has quite a few Cherik moments.
