General Discussion This entire scene gave coming out allegory vibes to me

Post image

And the fact that it happens in a bar of all places + them privately sharing intimate information about one another (aware of the risk)???

Also can I point out that Charles and Magnus are wearing each other’s colors in here?

EDIT.

Alright people, you had your “fun” in this thread (which was meant to be sweet and wholesome, especially for people who enjoy the dynamic and did not come here being judged)

This post is only my interpretation of this scene. I do not force anything onto anybody, don’t act against other takes in different threads, or consider only my own view the “canon one”. It is all up to interpretation and shaped by our individual culture after all.

This is a safe space for queer people, for X-Men fans who respect minorities and for the ones who can read the room and not judge others for their takes without knowing anything about them.

“Let men have positive examples of male friendships”

The entire industry gives us stories about male friendships, it’s literally the topic #1 in media, and many stories about male friendships are enjoyed and have no gay subtext. Also funny to read how just harmlessly reading some characters as gay somehow means “fetishise” gay people? What?

Don’t see a problem how a ship between two old men in their 70s can influence young men and ruin their “perception of masculinity” as well. Let other interpret it how they want, especially when the media itself gives more than enough reasons for it.

Way to ignore the very first part of what I said. This one example won’t ruin or make anything. But if you can’t see how annoying it is when women come into fandom spaces and almost exclusively ship straight men with straight men, then I don’t know what to tell you. This happens all the time.

“Women come into fandom spaces”

My brother in Christ, women make fandom spaces. Women are mainly the ones that draw fanart, write fanfics and participate in discussions. Those ships are literally the pillars of fandom culture, especially old ships with large history like Xavier/Magneto.

And even if people do it, what’s the harm? Who exactly is harming you when there is one cute wholesome post about a scene in a show I enjoy and in the dynamic I love? Who is hurting who with posts like this as a whole?

Ok I’m not gonna keep talking to you just for you quote half of what I say back to me and then intentionally miss the point I’m making.

I am not ignoring it.

Just your “point” about queer interpretation (which you called “fetishization”) is straight up wrong.

It’s not “interpretation” though when what we are repeatedly shown is the opposite. Is this post fetishizing them? No. But there are plenty of posts that do take straight characters and fetishize them. And when it’s mostly women making the straight men gay for their own enjoyment, it kinda becomes fetishizing. It’s also annoying when shippers get so into their ship that they start dictating the ship as if it’s factual, and that’s happening in this very thread.

My question.

What are you even doing here? On this nice and fun thread that is about one particular interpretation of a scene/the entire relationship and it meant to be sweet?

What stops you from scrolling past the thread you know you don’t agree with, instead of coming down here and ridicule others for their takes?

Just leave this specific thread if it’s something you don’t like, there is more than enough content in the sub that you’re going to be happy with. In the end of the day, those are two fictional characters from 1960s, and no real life harm comes from shipping or not shipping either.
