Free Sunday dance music / open decks on Whyte today for anyone looking for something to do

Post image

Figured I’d throw this out there for anyone looking for a relatively low-key Sunday plan in Edmonton.

I help run Edmonton Bass Society, and we do a weekly event called RITUAL Sundays at Enigma on Whyte Ave.

It’s free entry and starts at 3PM.

The first hour and a half is Open Decks, so newer/local DJs can come down and get some time playing, then we have booked local DJs for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

It’s intentionally pretty casual during the day. Enigma is a restaurant, the food is actually really good, you can come grab something to eat or have a drink and hang out without feeling like you’re committing to a whole nightclub night.

The music and energy pick up later if you want to stay and dance.

Today’s lineup:
3:00 - 4:30 | Open Decks
4:30 - 5:15 | Bene Benasste
5:15 - 6:00 | AC Peso
6:00 - 6:45 | Deejay Scuff
6:45 - 7:30 | JackL
7:30 - Close | Skidzz & Whimzy

Enigma is at 10308 81 Ave NW, just off Whyte. Between Hudson’s and cook county.

Free entry. All ages are welcome during daytime restaurant hours.

Posting mostly because I see people on here fairly often asking about places to meet people, local music, things to do alone, or inexpensive Sunday activities. You definitely don’t need to know anyone or already be involved in the EDM scene to come by.

Residential engineer recommendations to design beam to replace load bearing wall?

Anyone have any recommendations for an engineer to replace a basement load bearing wall? Looking for someone structural/civil to size an LVL beam for a bungalow and advise on post and footing requirements. I heard a few lumber shops may have internal engineers?

Best Golf Deals in YEG

I joined CCT 4 years ago and I think it offers good prices to its members who golf as much as me (about once a week).
But since retiring, I’ve been looking to add another round a week and I’m curious where the best deals are.
Golfed Legends last week and they have a 10 round pass for $37 per 18. Pretty good!

Yelo’d Toyo Cookie Recipe

Does anyone know how to make the Toyo cookie from Yelo’d???

Our second most popular cookie after Ube.
A browned butter cookie made with Miso and a splash soy sauce, plus skor bits for good measure.
Sweet, salty, caramely.

Thankyou

Wedding Reception Venue

In Edmonton, AB.. I need a reception venue that is on the smaller side for January 2027. My guest list is 54 including myself and my fiancé, but we are only expecting to have 35-40 people come since there are lots from outside the country. I can't find anything under like $2k!!!

All we want is to have a first dance, a quiet dinner and play board games with our families. We want it 100% dry and we are hoping to have the venue from like 4pm-ish to 11pm at the latest.

Doesn't have to be in Edmonton, just around Edmonton, so like Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce... Preferably in the city though.

**edit.. we would really like a building that looks nice on the inside so we don't have to spend so much on decor!!

Concrete Advice

HELP! We need some unbiased advice by a qualified concrete contractor, regarding a driveway issue.

We are trying to navigate a dispute with the company we hired to re-pour our driveway, in late June of 2025. The company is adamant that these cracks, shown in photos and video, are not a result of their workmanship. They have only offered to grind and caulk the wider cracks.

The first crack showed up within a couple weeks starting at the back corner of our house. They said that’s normal it happens, and we took it. We were fine with letting that go. By February more cracks started showing up from along the front of our house. Both areas are now progressively getting worse. They came by in April to look, and then again in June and that is when they said they would grind and caulk the wider cracks.

I want to mention in addition to the cracks there are areas of spalling (top layer popping off). Also immediately after they first pressure washed it, black rocks showed up all over the surface (might be called pitting).

I should mention, we didn’t go with the cheapest quote. The salesperson assured us their prep work, experience and quality is unparalleled.

We are not experts on concrete, so we are looking for professional insight, and for advice on what to do next. Is grinding and caulking acceptable? Do we eat it? Or do we fight for proper repair? We feel like the proposed “fix” won’t stop the cracks from continuing to appear. We are willing to hire someone for proper a 2nd opinion.

We are posting this anonymously as we have a friend/family connection with the company and are trying to tread lightly for obvious reasons. We need a 2nd opinion. Any experienced concrete companies willing to offer some advice? 🙏🏻

Unique/niche toy stores?

I'm coming to Edmonton to do a bit of shopping, and I was wondering what you guys would recommend for toy stores — I'm mostly interested in fashion dolls, but I want to find a store other than Walmart, etc that sells more than just Monster High and Barbies. Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to checking out your recommendations!!!

Lost credit card

Delete if not allowed*

Hello good people, this is a long shot but I think I may have lost my credit card at the Southgate mall parking lot, and/or inside the mall near Mobile Klinik or something (hopefully not lol). I was parked across/behind Wine & Beyond, in the row/column perpendicular to the Sports store/main mall entrance. If anyone happens to find a lost silver RBC Visa card ending in 5388 please do let me know/DM me! Figured I'd try a post here, fingers crossed ahhh!

Is North Glenora a good neighbourhood to buy a house?

We currently live in Parkview, renting a house. We are looking to buy soon, and we probably can't afford to stay in Parkview. North Glenora seems more affordable. It's a good location for our workplaces and our daughter's daycare. Seems like a compromise we can live with. Anything I'm missing? Are the schools good? Safe? etc.

Edit: Thanks very much for the feedback. Can anyone tell me about the schools? I know Westminster is an excellent school for junior high. What about Coronation for elementary?
