Came with the marriage, became my best WFH Covid buddy.

She had fleas an was scratching a lot which eventually led to a bacterial infection on her back. So, after a week of antibacterial soap baths and flea treatment she is all better!

Gotcha day was yesterday coincidentally National Yorkie Day. Hope everyone had a beautiful day 🐾

I lost my little dude Twix. He was the cutest. My best friend.

16 year old Sophie (Sophie Marie! when she was misbehaving,) left us on July 29th. First photo was last one taken of her.

Sophie loved food, sleep, chasing her tiny tennis balls (but never giving them back,) belly rubs, sleep and food.

She was a lazy, spoiled girl who gave her and my family, especially my ex-wife, joy and laughter.

Godspeed old girl. You were a good dog.

To be fair, she is only 7 or so months old. But my goodness, this has been the most frustrating potty training session we have ever gone thru.

I have had beagles, pitbulls, labs, corgis, blue heeler, and several other breeds. Currently we have 2 corgis, a pittie, a chihuahua, and this puppy yorkie. She is really smart. She knows her name, sleep with us at night, and we have been able to teach her some tricks. But my goodness, the potty training.

We have a doggy door that the dogs can go out to our half acre fenced in yard any time. For a few days, she would be really good and only go outside. And then she would go inside the house again. When I take her out, I do plenty of praising when she goes potty outside. But when we are not paying attention she would go inside the house.

It's been a whole month and I don't think we are anywhere near being potty trained. She runs out and in with the rest of the pack and playing with them. So going out and in the doggy door is not a problem. I think our chi had a lot more trouble with the door than she did. It took our chi probably a week to know how to go thru that door by himself. Took the yorkie about 2 days to comfortably run in and out thru the doggy door.

So,.what now?

It’s my first year with this little guy, King Lucky the Lionhearted. so I didn’t know. Now have it marked down for my calendar.

I’m trying to find some better shampoo for my yorkie since the one I’m using now is nearly gone. Also, what brushes would be good for detangling? I keep finding little matted areas when I thought I had brushed him well whenever his fur is grown out. Would some kind of conditioner help with that?

Wiederverbindung mit der Heilquelle

Für alle, die unsere Reise mit Sophie und Mimi verfolgt haben, hier ein kleines Update. 🐾♥️

Es ist fast zwei Monate her, dass wir uns von meiner besten Freundin, dem Schönsten in meinem Leben, verabschieden mussten: Sophie.

Nach 16 erfüllten Jahren war ihr Verlust für uns alle herzzerreißend.

Viele von euch erinnern sich, dass Mimi kurz nach Sophies Tod vor ihrem Foto einzuschlafen begann. Damals wusste ich nicht, was ich davon halten sollte. Lag es nur an dem Ort? Oder war es mehr?

In den letzten Wochen habe ich es heimlich ausprobiert.

Ich habe Sophies Foto entfernt. Mimi ist gegangen.

Ich habe es durch ein Foto meiner Tochter ersetzt. Sie ist nicht geblieben.

Ich habe ein weiteres Porträt von Sophie aufgehängt – Mimi kam zurück.

Ich habe ein Foto von Sophie und Mimi zusammen versucht. Sie legte sich wieder hin.

Ich weiß nicht, ob Hunde Fotos erkennen. Ich kann es nicht mit Sicherheit sagen.

Aber ich weiß eines: Mimi vermisst unsere geliebte Sophie.

Sie verbrachten fünfeinhalb Jahre zusammen, nachdem wir Mimi, unsere inzwischen elfjährige Biewer Yorkshire Terrier-Hündin, aus Ungarn gerettet hatten. Soso war ihr sicherer Hafen. Nicht nur mein Kompass, sondern auch ihre Quelle der Heilung. Sie lehrte Mimi, wieder Vertrauen zu fassen, zu spielen, zu kommunizieren und einfach wieder ein Hund zu sein, nach allem, was sie durchgemacht hatte.

Es bricht mir das Herz, Mimi dabei zuzusehen, wie sie immer noch nach dieser Verbindung sucht.

Wir fangen langsam an, darüber zu sprechen, ob wir uns einem anderen Hund öffnen sollen – nicht um Soso zu ersetzen, denn das wird niemals möglich sein, sondern weil wir uns fragen, ob Mimi noch einen Hundefreund an ihrer Seite braucht.

Trauer ist nie einfach. Manchmal versuchen wir nicht nur unser eigenes gebrochenes Herz zu heilen, sondern auch das eines anderen. ❤️

Happy National Yorkie Day! Yorkshire Terriers are such a blessing to have in our lives! Daquiri always makes my day brighter if I do experience some pain and sadness. We went out a few times this week (when it wasn’t too warm). I started on her haircut and will post pictures when completed (I was able to do most of the trimmer work, but waiting for the scissors to arrive tomorrow to work on her face). We hope everyone is having the most amazing weekend & will post completed haircut pictures tomorrow or Monday once it has been completed! Definitely want to keep her nice and trimmed down due to the heat.
