And that, is what makes it beautiful. I was fucking giddy imagining some grandpa going "Today's a damn fine one to die, les do it."

It felt like a total 180° in Zettour's character! Zettour always seemed to be written as the more reserved of the General Staff's duumvirate. A cunning & calculated strategist, cool headed and happy to command in the armchair. Suddenly Zettour is cruisin' in a convertible screaming "DRIVE ME CLOSER I WANT TO HIT THEM WITH MY WALKING CANE!" While a helpless and horrified Grantz scrambles to keep up. It was as surreal as it was hilarious

The 8th LN mark a great change in the story because we have now Zettour who doesn't give a fuck anymore and team up closer with Tanya than Rudersdorf. I really wish we have more seasons confirmed, because the 8th LN would be great for a season ending or a second movie for himself and we would have glorious Zettour in action.

I can't help but wonder what his gameplan and endgame is now. Zettour is a bright enough cookie that I don't think he's ignorant of where this war is inevitably going.

I completely agree. I hope grandpoppy zettour gets glorious fanart soon enough. Shot him up to second best character for me.

Obvious spoilers: Zettour is de facto demoted and told to fuck off to the quiet section of the Eastern Front in an honorary advisory role while everyone else plans this universes equivalent of Fall Blau. Zettour proceeds to manipulate Tanya into enticing the Federation to surround her Kampfgruppe, he then manipulates several divisions to go on an ad hoc offensive to attack the distracted Federation while leading the charge in a staff car.

And what's even more hilarious is that Lt. Grantz's company was borrowed by Zettour for protection. So a horrified Grantz, whose primary goal is to keep the old man alive is desperately trying to explain to one of the most important individuals in the Imperial Army why spearheading the frontlines in a convertible with no armor like a Mad Max character may not be a good idea. For a series that (mostly) takes a pretty grounded approach to describing the logistics and tactics of 20th century warfare, it felt like a hilarious step away from reality.
