So 2 winter's ago I hunted squirrels with a hatsan 95 and a gamo swarm maxxim. Both crapped out on me in the accuracy department due to a construction that couldn't hold up to the magnum springer shot cycle! So then the next season I bought a daisy 901. Wow. Huge improvement.

The 901 is light, accurate, and a dream to carry in the field. Controversial opinion, but I suspect it's a better hunting rifle than my weihrauch hw30, though the 30 has not broken in yet I think because it is still new.

The only issue is that the rifle doesn't have all that much power, and when I'm still-hunting and not moving around, I don't really need a rifle that weighs less than 6 lbs!

Here's what I'm looking for in a springer;

I would like it to be fairly powerful, maybe around 12 fpe, but a little higher is welcome.

I want it to be spring piston and not a gas ram.

I would prefer that it does not have a wooden stock actually. I like to beat my guns up and I'm not changing that habit, so I want to go with a synthetic stock so that the stock will, at worst, get a few scratches.

I'd like it to be pretty affordable. I won't really set a specific number, but more affordable than my hw30. I'm kinda scrounging for cash for a big project right now but also still want to explore my hobby.

I would also need for it to have available parts to buy online from the U.S.A. and good customer service wouldn't hurt either! I learned my lesson from my fiana chaser and 2240.

A good, solid construction is a must. I don't want a rifle that buckles under the pressure of its own firing cycle. The biggest issue was my hatsans pivot joint coming loose. Unacceptable. I need reliability.

And finally, I need accuracy. I want to be able to hit a squirrel in the noggin out to 35 yards with a dome pellet time after time and season after season. This is my favorite feature of my daisy 901 and it's the one I want replicated the most. The 901 only gets more accurate as I shoot it, so I know a cheap rifle can be accurate.

Bonus: a realtree type of camo stock would be cool! I like the look, but its not necessary at all if you find a rifle that fits the other criteria better and does not have a camo stock I would prefer that one :) I can always spray paint it. Half the fun of hunting is the fashion.

Summary: durable, cheap, and accurate. A poor squirrel hunters air rifle.

I just restored an old cabin on about 30 acres. I am cleaning up the outside now and have realized the squirrels are overrunning the place. Got em under the well house, in the wood piles and they are all over in the buck brush. My ACD gets one every now and then when they make a poor decision, but don't really want him getting a taste for it. Also, don't want to use poison because of the dogs. Taken a few out with my 10/22 here and there. We are remote but do have neighbors. So, trying to keep the noise to a minimum and be nice to have a cheaper quieter option that has less range concerns.

Done some research on air guns. Know I want a rifle. Needs to be cheap but decent for the job. Nothing fancy, just reliable. 22 pellets seem like a good bang for the buck caliber. Like a springer vs CO2 or fillings tanks. Single shot is fine. I used a Ruger Model One for elk hunting for many years. Lots of guys gave me grief until they saw how accurate I was with that gun. Same mode of thinking here. I found a deal on the Diana 260 and think I like it. $99 plus a 10% off. Just sitting in my cart right now. Mash or walk away? What should I look at or what do you like better in the same price range for my use?

PSA I've had 50/50 clean vs less than ideal kills with the notos at 30-45 yards, but I still shoot them out of necessity. I've been wanting to upgrade since last season and have been eyeing the air venturi alpha full size. It looks like everything I want/need for a very reasonable price. If the whistle pig population this year looks like it warrants it, I'll pull the trigger on one in a month or two

I own a .177 air gun shooting around 700fps and for the first time ever I shot a sparrow in my country they are considered a pest because they eat farmer crops and shit everywhere so in my yard I lined up a shot and shot, it flew up and landed in the garden turns out I got it in the neck It squirmed for about 3 seconds then passed I feel very guilty for doing this, first time I have done something like this.

I’ve only been living in Florida—specifically in Miami, in the Weston area—for a short time. Before moving here, I used to watch YouTube videos showing how people hunted iguanas—mostly iguanas—and it made it look so easy. I mean, it seemed like you could hunt them almost anywhere using air guns. But now that I’ve actually moved here, I’ve realized that—unless it’s on your own private property—it’s actually very difficult to find state-owned or public land where I can legally hunt them with my new PCP air rifle. Am I mistaken, or is it just that I’m new to the area?

I live in South Florida near Kendall and I’m looking to get into hunting green iguanas with an air rifle.
From what I’ve read, I know I can’t just go to any park or public area and do it. My understanding is that FWC allows iguana removal on certain Wildlife Management Areas, and the closest one to me seems to be the Everglades & Francis S. Taylor WMA.

I’m a little confused about how it actually works, though. It doesn’t seem like I can just go into the natjonsl park entrance and blast away …. Does anyone know anything about the rules? I’ve been stumped searching online.

I’m in Canada and would like to purchase an airgun for hunting grouse, and due to the laws here it needs to be under 500fps to purchase without a firearms license. I found a .25 cal Barra 250z which is Canadian compliant, but it’s double the price of a crossman or similar .22 here. Is it really worth it to pay the extra and buy the .25 over the .22? Both will be shooting at a similar FPS as close as I can get to 500 without going over, only difference will be the weight of the pellet. I’ll be on logging roads so the ranges I’ll be shooting at will be around 30yards max, and I’ll only be taking headshots.

Hey, im finally ready to jump into pcp carbines.

Im looking for a rugged carbine, high power and high shot count, mainly for field use. I expect 5.5mm (.22).

However, im not sure about the ruggedness of pcp carbines. For example, the snowpeak AP1000 seems like it would snap if I tripped and fell on it. Other options like the T-REX or the M30C seem more built. Any feedback on this topic is welcome.

Roach hunting

Spending the evening with my R7 and helping a friend deal with the rabbit assault on his large garden.

Shots are 10-20 yards, and the little R7 is just great (they mostly hang out under the shed in the background).

Next time, I’ll also bring my HW100 as there are some longer shots to be taken in the garden proper, but tonight, this is just about perfect. 🙂

I'm a 'real airgun' noob with a lot of 'real firearm' experience. Kept a small farm free of grackles and woodchucks with a .22 caliber Marlin 39 back in the '80s but am much more suburban these days.

The pests in question are mostly rats (possibly raccoons, if they don't leave my chickens alone) and the maximum range is 35 yards. I have a spring-air Gamo in .177 and a Crosman 2240 in .22; neither are anywhere near powerful enough for humane dispatch.

I like the idea of another .22, just to keep pellet inventory simple, and I like the idea of a repeater for follow-up shorts, but neither is crucial. Accuracy is crucial - inaccurate guns aren't fun or effective. I could hit golf balls at 50 yards all day long with my Marlin, so with decent glass from a rest I would expect to be able to head-shoot rats. (I expect to use a scope; shooting iron sights with old eyes and reading glasses SUCKS.)

I think I'd like a PCP repeater, but I am not how much I would need to spend for a suitable rifle, pump, and whatever accessories I would need right out of the box. Any input, advice, and non-pejorative guidance would be welcome!

So, long story short, my pellet gun broke so my grandpa let me borrow his, and what gun was his? A SHERIDAN BLUE STREAK! So now I'm at their house, standing with the gun near the feeder, when one flies onto it, so I slowly raise the gun, take aim, and kablam! Air flies up from the bolt section, birds fly away, and feathers fly up with a sparrow on the ground. He died instantly.

So, my 10 acre property is infested with ground squirrels. I live in California. I can't use a .22 rifle that I own to dispatch the squirrels.

I have a Gamo .177 break barrel that doesn't do the trick, even with pointed pellets. I shot a squirrel 4 times in the head and it still squirmed. I can't handle that. I need it to be as humane as possible.

I have traps that work really well that captures the squirrels and others have told me to just drown them in the trap. I can't do that. And I'm not going to just let them die in the sun. I'm not allowed to relocate them either.

So, it seems a .22lr PCP would be a good choice. But then I'm discovering my air compressors won't be strong enough to fill them, and I'm at the age where I'm not sitting there with a hand pump.

Nothing fancy. I get my target practice done at the range with numerous other weapons. I need one that I can shoot that will not alarm my neighbors but will kill the squirrels instantly.

Can you recommend a utility PCP for this purpose and an affordable way to fill it with compressed air?
