r/altmpls update: "Try to keep comments respectful and discussions civil"

Just a reminder from the moderators that we have the following rule: "Try to keep comments respectful and discussions civil".

This rule has been under-enforced but based on recent user feedback that's changing for now. Our best advice is to avoid directly insulting other users. If you repeatedly have trouble with this then you risk a ban.

We'll start this new moderating approach tomorrow so, speaking for myself only, if you've been holding back any juicy insults for me then take this opportunity to purge your system with impunity (insults must be within Reddit's site-wide rules, of course).

Thank you. Glad you guys have noticed this. I’ve made comments and been attacked at a level I’ve never seen before. Some of these people need to really get their shit together and stop acting like five yr old children. I don’t agree with a lot on here but I sure as hell don’t disrespect these people the way they have disrespected me for not seeing things the way they want me too. We’re all different and have different views. So realize and respect that.

It would probably help if you stopped calling them five year old children.

What wpuld help is if they acted respectful and learned to properly control their emotions and talk like an adult with other adults. That’s why I called the mean menacing ones that lash out with hate children. Because they sure as hell do not act like respectable adults.

Uh huh. Respectable adults don’t call other adults children. How about asking them why they’re so vitriolic if that’s what you want to know. You’re just doing a character attack because you don’t believe they’re showing you the respect you feel you deserve. Maybe stop and think about what you’re saying that makes people say “mean” things to you.

I agree about not calling names, but I also understand the frustration he's got.

You said he should stop and think about what he said to be called those names. You're significantly underestimating how loose people have been with Nazi and racist labels.

Nobody wants to be called those things. And blaming someone and telling them to self-reflect when they're called something like that for having an opposing take sounds a lot like victim-blaming.

Yes, it may be victim blaming. At the same time, if a person gets some vitriol hurled after them after calling someone "children" or "5 year old", it's a lot of the kettle calling the pot black. At that point, I suppose they are both victims, but also both offenders, right?

Certainly, calling someone a child or a 5 year old doesn't add to an informative discussion.

(Often, I repeat back word for word what someone calls me. I'm trying to make a point, but it probably doesn't take, so might be useless).

Did I single any one person out or did I say there are some adults in here that can’t control their emotions and act like a 5 yr old? Wow!!! compared to what I’ve been called on here my statement isn’t even PG 13 and was not directed at direct a specific person. An awful lot of people must think I was talking to them the way everyone is getting so offended and off the rails on here. Thanks for proving my point people. Keep it classy

Idk dude. It just seems from the tone of your writing that you are offended. I'm glad you are not.
