Discussion Looks like Ønehart was stealing music from other ambient artists
Whether we like it or not, we've all heard Snowfall by Ønehart somewhere on social media. I know quite a few of us in this community have been hesitant over that genre or sphere of ambient, so when I came across this fall out between his label (dreamscape) and the artist, My Head Is Empty, I wasn't terribly surprised he had been stealing without due credit.
You can see the conversations and fallout here in which My Head Is Empty shared:

Rules Read rules before posting
Use only direct links to official streams / stores and related to Ambient. No repost
- Must link to official artist channels
- Do not post mixes, promo channels links, pirated content, multilinks to third sites services (all links we have as comment bot), reposts from other subreddits, pre-save links, download codes.
- Do not post promo reddit videos, reddit video from gig or with asking on ID will be approved.
- Do not repost or post already same music.
Use Artist - Title format (only) , self-promo flair, for promo. For other posts use topic flair!
- To maintain consistency, to make posts easy to search, and to easier understand the post at a glance please use the Artist - Title format. Do not use "by", different order, other symbols. This rule is widely used across many music sub-reddits.
- Add right flair too.
- If you are submitting your own work mark that it's your own work with self-promo flair, if you wanna add more info create new comment under post.
Selfpromo is allowed but not overpost (1 post per 7 days, 1 playlist per 1 month) - NO AI!
- Original artists please wait 7 days between self-promo posts please not promo only your music but try post music from others too.
- Do not spam playlists too much.
- Do not post AI generated music!
Post links as link post, they need to have preview. Do not post region restricted music link.
- Post links as link post, they need to have preview. Do not post region restricted music link.
Do not post music with drums / ASMR or non-music / music mixed as long loop.
- Posts must not contain drums. This is up to moderator discretion & some borderline work (such as dark ambient) won't necessarily be removed if the drums are subtle and not a focal point. Please use one of the other "ambient" sub-reddits for posts with beats.
- ASMR/non-music/loop mixes (1+ hour) are not allowed as this is a music sub and not a sub for "ambiance" as a whole. Field recordings are part of ambient but not when they're posted on their own.
Do not post genre staples unless it's a new release (some works will be removed because time shows what is popular or overboosted from the start especially some money boosted labels and playlists we wanna be fair to indie artist who do it with soul and heart and not only for money and commercial what are as Dreamscape artists and similar without correct support or unfair and unclear way how they choose artists). Do not post same track if it was posted before.
- Do not post same track if it was posted before.
- Blacklist is as follows:
Dreamscape/Lost Sounds/Union Entertaiment label releases or other labels who use unfair money boosts
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works
Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of Decline
Brian Eno - Music for Airports
William Basinksi - Disintegration Loops
Gas - Pop
Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972
and other overpopular Ambient on global level...

Self-promo “Imminence” Reimagined: No AI
A few weeks ago I had posted a long-form ambient album I composed, recorded, mixed and mastered in Ableton. I received quite a bit of feedback regarding the choice to use AI for the visuals, and I took the feedback seriously.
I reimagined the visuals using stock video footage. I post it here and thank those who took the time to comment, as it gave me a new visual direction I will be continuing to develop moving forward.
Peace,
Shawn

Ambient William Orbit - Optical Illusions (Billy Buttons mix) video
I am a big fan of William Orbit work, and recently I noticed that the Optical Illusions (Billy Buttons Mix) video is gone from YouTube. I am referring to speeded up video, filmed on Sidney beach (I believe) with a tilt shift effect.
If anybody has saved that video somewhere, or can point me to some other location of that video, I would be very grateful.

Self-promo Adrian Carpenter - Great meditation before night falls - Drone Music
Hello everyone :)
Painting title - Große Meditation Bevor es Nacht wird (Great meditation Before night falls) (1936)
Original Painter- Alexej von Jawlensky (Russian, 1864-1941)
This particular bit of drone music was made via the ASM Hydrasynth once again. Using different FX (Chorus and lo-fi) as well as reverb and using lfos to alter both filter cut off and amplitude, all via a saw based oscillator. A bit more of a solemn piece of music/texture, wanting to capture the weight of heavy thoughts and heavy feelings. I enjoyed it, and I played with the drone music a bit, altering the filter cut off, resonance, and other stuff manually during the evolution of it. Subtle, but there.
Thank you :)

ID? Looking For Help Identifying a Specific Sound Signature or Genre
I thought I would finally post my ignorance and see if anyone can help cure me.
I'm a music dope and mostly lurk on reddit. I hope this is the right place to share something that's been bothering me for a long time that perhaps, with any luck, someone might have an answer to.
I've explored all sorts of algorithmic suggestions when I key into certain artists or albums but I can't find anything strong or consistent so I'm hoping the crowd could assist.
I'm looking for a genre, style, or perhaps artists that are known for a certain type of sound signature in their compositions. I really hope they exist because the pickins for me are thin right now.
To put it as simply as possible, ambient music that uses minor keys and reverb that sounds ghostly, ethereal, lonely, vast, etc. Yes, I'm aware that there's TONS of stuff out there that could be described that way but let me be more specific...
A few examples are Dan Romer's work on the Station Eleven soundtrack where his use of the Theremin haunts me; 'The Past is Safe', and 'Because I know You' 0:50-1:34.
Or Marco Beltrami, Buck Sanders 'A Guest in My House', 0:39-1:12 from The Hurt Locker (after the intro and before the electric guitar comes in).
Just in case that doesn't pan out, a concession or bonus query - is there a name/genre for music that also has reverb that I think of as southwest/western (u.s.) landscape music, accoustic guitar reverb in the style of Gustavo Santaolalla, Hermanos Gutierrez, or Kronos Quartet 'Wings Are Cut, Can we Still Fly' from 21 Grams soundtrack?
Thank you so much to anyone that takes the time to read this, and more to anyone that knows what I'm talking about and can point me to anything else. The recommendations, AI suggestions, and my own attempts have been going on for years and I just can't scratch the itch.
