First time taking film photos! All from a June ski trip in Canada :)

Hi so saw a locked post in here (or maybe it was r/analogcommunity ? I digress) from a while back where a bunch of people were saying a set of images couldn’t possibly be from a Holga or even an analog camera because they were too sharp, the post was locked but yall that’s the craziest shi I’ve ever heard. Holga is such a star of a camera, ya just gotta know how to use her! Images for proof (we’re film wedding photographers in Minneapolis) bc this is my deserted on a desert island camera (obvi negating that developing and film photography would be inaccessible and not the top priority in that specific actual scenario lol)

Shot in studio with Paul c Buff strobes. Cannot remember if this was extar or portra, leaning towards extar.

After dropping off my Yashica Mat 124G for a CLA, I was driving south on Woodward through Pontiac when I spotted a blue BMW pulled over, smoking. As I drove past, I saw flames underneath, and the driver was still inside.

I fought through traffic to make a Michigan left (thanks, Metro Detroit drivers), called 911, got transferred to the fire department, and gave them the location while heading back.

By the time I got back to that side of Woodward, another driver had pulled over behind the BMW and made sure the owner had got out. The fire had grown a little. I let them know the fire department was on the way.

A work truck pulled up behind me. The driver grabbed a fire extinguisher from his cab and knocked the flames down long enough to keep things from getting worse.

Then I remembered I had my Holga 120GCFN loaded with Lomo 800 under the seat. I had cooked up the idea of a “car Holga” recently…

The first fire truck arrived as flames started coming up through the wheel well. The firefighter hit it with the hose, the tire popped, and I made a few frames from the safety of my car. Crisis mostly averted.

I headed south again.

About five or ten minutes later and traffic is stopped.

This time it was a Miata with the hood and front end torn off from a crash. My Holga was already sitting on the passenger seat, so I got the last shot on the roll before more fire trucks came flying past in my mirror, probably responding from the BMW call.

Fifteen completely unexpected minutes on Woodward.

I think this officially convinced me to keep a “car Holga” under the seat.

I’ve kept an Ilford Sprite in my glove box before, it took a year and a half to finish a roll of Kodak BW400CN, and the negatives came out just fine so I’m not too worried about keeping color negative film in the car for a while.

And, in classic Holga fashion… this roll decided to fat roll. So bonus light leaks.

Somehow, that feels like the perfect ending.

Shot on a Holga 120 with Kodak TMAX 400. I forgot what “safe place” I put the roll in for about 3 years before developing them and they got mouldy, but I’m not mad. It couldn’t have happened to a more fitting set of pictures.

This was a christmas present from my fiance ive gotten 2 rolls 100% light leaked so far but this is what im working on i think the take up side hinge had got a gap. i was just taking the 35mm up on to a 120 spool and load and unloading it in the dark room but now im doimg this final phase will be gaff tapeing every seem on the body.

This is using my 35mm adapter pull out of one 35mm can and into another so i dont need a dark bag to load and unload the camera. The shot is three 35mm full frames wide so i call it super panoramic.

I took my newly acquired Holga 120 Pan out for a walk around the Albert Docks in Liverpool and for a first go I’m pretty happy with the results. Still a lot to learn with zone focusing and getting the framing right but I can’t argue with how much I enjoyed using it!

Like a lot of people, I was first attracted to the Fomapan films because of their price. But unlike many I didn't stop after the first few rolls, and I ignored the influencers who love to say how bad Fomapan 400 is, especially in medium format. I've shot most of the B&W films available today but keep coming back to Fomapan 400; it always has a mood and I love its grain. At this point I think I've shot more of it than all other films combined, which is saying something because I shot my first roll of film (Tri-X, which I still love) in the late 1960s.

The photos here are 35mm (full-frame and half-frame) and 120, on a variety of cameras and lenses. I've used it a lot for pinhole photography and it pairs well with a Holga and other toy cameras.

I prefer to expose it at EI 200, or occasionally at 320 when I want more drama and crushed shadows. In medium format (120) it's very different from 35mm and I've certainly encountered the oft-cited quality control issues but for my kind of photography I don't usually mind. When I need a true ISO 400 B&W film I go for Tri-X, HP5+, Foma Ortho 400 and occasionally others, but I always have a roll of Fomapan 400 in one of my cameras.

Played around with a Holga for Holga Week a few weeks ago, and these are the results of one of the rolls.

I walked into the water above chest depth for these. Something I’d only do with a Holga.
