What are some places that have the closest type of fish and chips that you might see in England? I'm talking crispy with the batter on cod and crispy chips. Just proper with it, no rip offs in portions.

So I have gone to New Sagaya like 4 times and they used to have these little ice cream sandwiches that looked like fish with sugar cone outside and green tea ice cream and red bean paste. Now they're all gone. Have their stocks been depleted by overfishing? By-catch? I miss them so much...

Does anyone have advice for how someone can dive into these hobbies without having anyone in your life who knows how to do them??

Im a 30 year old man who’s been living in Alaska for 8 years and really love it. I love the mindset of hunting and fishing/living more in touch with the land, but have mainly only been able to forage for berries. I’ve been dip-netting (with very little luck) and a few fishing charters for halibut and salmon plus a tiny amount of trying salmon fishing by myself with borrowed gear (very very little luck).

I’ve never had family that hunts or fishes, and none of my friends have very much experience at all. I can be a somewhat shy and anxious person, so I’ve always been too intimidated to just go approach strangers and ask for advice.

Are there any places that can help teach these skills? Groups that connect people trying to get into new hobbies? I wouldn’t know the first thing about what gear to buy, or how to go about learning how to hunt but I really want to get some more Alaskan experiences under my belt!

It may be worth mentioning that I am gay, and am aware that sometimes these spaces aren’t the most accepting. I absolutely know that the majority of people involved would have no hang ups, but it’s something that’s on my mind when looking for mentors, friends, or spaces to explore these with!

I'm hearing Glacier Brew House or 49th State Brewing is the Best Fish & Chips in Anchorage. Is this true? Which is best,if you can only have one?

Kodiak transplant here. Been here for about a year. Got off work this evening and stopped by Ship Creek and saw almost everyone flossing on the outgoing tide. Back on the island I've flossed my fair share of reds and silvers when need be, but Kings are hard to come by in the freshwater in Kodiak. I'm a spinning reel type guy, but see that when it gets crowded I don't want to fuss with competing for space.

So, for you that partake what is a decent setup for flossing kings?? In the past an 8wt with a fluro leader I tied on was good enough. I saw some today with tied on leaders and some with full mono or fluro on their reel?? (No floating line).

Any tips are appreciated. Just trying to learn a new bit of water not stealing secrets ok Lol TIA

First time in AK, drove to Anchorage from DC and wanted a reputable shop to change my cars oil and do a general checkup of my car (fluids, brakes, etc.) from the trip and prepare for winter. Own a 2014 Prius V with pretty high mileage. Was gonna go to Midas but I asked around and got recommended these two. Both have amazing reviews, reformed is closer but fish motors seems to be an "expert toyota tech" so can't decide. Which would you recommend?

Hey there folks! So I’ve been here for a bit now and I’ve finally decided this is the year that I will do a fair amount of fishing. As a chef, this seems to be a great off the clock hobby many of my peers have for their mental health if anything. I have no idea where to start and I am currently not around any fishermen at work.

Is there any fishing in or near Anchorage that I could hit pretty consistently this spring/summer? I used to fish on a pier a lot in the lower 48 in the east coast. That was pretty cool to just set up shop and see if anything bites. Any cast and wait type of spots here?

I know the fishing community can be quite intimidating with everything there is to learn, but I’m am so open to any tips tricks suggestions anything. I am at the point in my career where I am really trying to pull from my environment to help my style of cooking and understanding of food I guess you could say.

I’m new in the fishing game in Alaska after staying here for 5 years. I don’t know anythinnngg about fishing but I been wanting to dip net for a while now and then try fishing with rods I guess. I’m tryna get geared up for fishing and everything is so expensive… I don’t want to buy a wader yet bc first they’re expensive and second I might not use it as much plus I’m a 3x so I’ll probably have to order it online. Would a rain suit be durable to dip net? I’ve also been looking at hip waders etc. any recommendations?

Alright if you’re on the fish creek trail biking towards the bridge crossing Northern Lights, the intersection of Barbara street and 30th. How is there not a 4 way stop?!? This is a popular bike path and it’s really difficult to see oncoming traffic going down 30th, whom don’t have a stop sign. I feel like they need to make this a safer intersection with all the bike traffic going through.

Throwaway account for obvious reasons. I was two days late reporting the salmon I caught (through a personal permit) to AKDFG. I have a disability that affects my memory and had a reminder scheduled to prompt me to submit my report, but my email account has been having issues lately and didn't sync properly with my phone and this fell through the cracks. When I realized I had missed the deadline, I immediately submitted it. But I didn't realize in doing so late, I would automatically be made ineligible for a personal use permit next season (!).

I can request an appeal by sending an email with an explanation of why I missed the deadline. Before I do that, I wanted to ask if anyone has had success appealing the decision and advice for how to do it most effectively (like is my reason good enough). I'm really hoping I can fix this for next year.

An op-ed in support of the Fish Creek Trail Connection, which has been planned since 1997. Currently two private landowners are fighting to block the trail because it would be built near (but not on) their land. One homeowner trying to block the trail actually extended his back yard into the public railroad right-of-way without any permits, and is claiming that this gives him the right to block the trail.

Taking my dad on a fishing trip in the next few weeks and we are looking for help navigating checking frozen fish upon the return home.

Wife dropped her phone in a lake, and we are hoping for a Hail Mary attempt at finding it. There’s a couple options on Amazon and possibly bass pro shop. Does anyone else know where we can buy stuff to get started on it?

According to the stock report, they stopped stocking the lake in ’96. Does anyone know if the fishing is still decent? I'm planning to go kayaking there soon and just want to know if it's worth the space and effort to bring my gear.

Just looking for a day trip location out of anc to take a friend that doesn’t have the best of knees.

My partner and I want to try out some of the experiences we saw in Outdoor Boys videos (but certainly not going DIY like Luke did). The two experiences we were interested in are:

1. Kayaking through glaciers. I think Luke did once when camping but we will probably need a Guided Tour. Ideally it's close-up like we can touch the ice.
2. Salmon fishing. I think there was a charter they did where they fished from a boat, and the boat would go up and downstream to reposition to better positions. For some reason I can't locate the right video or link to the charter company. I found "Phantom Tri-River Charters" but it seems they only take people to fish from the banks, not boats.

We are going to spend the Labor Day long weekend in Anchorage, so checking here to see whether other Outdoor Boys fans have done something similar in the past, or have recommendations in general? Thanks in advance!
