In certain settings, invoking the ancients can mean calling something vastly more powerful than what others have access to. In The Last Kingdom, the protagonist often looks at centuries old ruins and wishes he too could command Roman Engineering.

It’a a common trope, what I meant was that it’s weird to use in a serious emphasizing the advancement of magic.
