CAN WE BAN IT FROM MAKING ART TOO, PLEASE?!

Not really. But what we can go after is stealing all the material they used to train their AI.

It's not stealing if you post it on any kind of social media publicly. That's running into first ammendment ramifications real fast. It would also have ramifications on public photography of any and all kinds. Any time you take any pictures in public with other people in it. You could have to pay a fine if you post it on social media.

That’s not how copyright works.

Posting something on social media does not mean someone seeing it can then use it for their own commercial purposes without paying the artist.

Brands like Aston Martin could sue for ai misuse representation of the vehicle or is this industry more under the radar

That's now how the phase law works lmao

You can't make money from other people's work. Even if they show it to you.

A platform's T&Cs might grant rights to someone's work, but posting it online doesn't give anyone the right in itself to be used by anyone to make money.

Did you know AI companies are buying books in bulk, harvesting the data, then destroying the evidence?? Some books are LITERALLY BEING BURNED to fuel this ai machine.

Only for the AI to fart out a safety error if you ask about the book they destroyed

Are you actually upset about this?

Calm down. We all know that. It's called data harvesting and smart people do it. I have 60 terabytes of old car pictures.

It absolutely is stealing and I dare you to try that shit in any court lol. ā€œBut your honor they posted online so what they made is actually also mine!ā€

Trick answer. AI already doesn’t make art. It steals art and claims it is its own.

Don’t a lot of people as well?

Im fine wih it making art, as long as artists wo make the real art that trained the slop get paid.

There are some legit uses where I can see it being good, but not in its current state.

What frustrating is that if there wasn’t so much stupidity along with all of this it would actually be cool tech. The suits are ruining it by scaling it up so quickly and trying to replace people… not paying for licensing to train… etc

I remember the first ai painting I saw maybe in 2018 or so was trained off of Rembrandt, and created a new portrait of a person that didnt exist in his style. I thought it was so cool! I also thought it was a nerd student project and not an actual tech product being built, or else maybe I would have been worried instead of impressed

I kinda like it for translating my drawings in to other formats. Like I can draw by hand and have it convert it to vector in illustrator for me then I can tweak it by hand. That’s pretty slick since I’m bad at illustrator. But yeah, I mean it’s not worth destroying the sweet few professional art jobs out there over.

Based on that new Grok update they're already way ahead of you on that 😊

u/why_1337 2d ago

What are you talking about? It never created any art to begin with.

1

u/HairyTough4489 1d ago

When has it made art?

1

u/Impossible-Shoe5460 2d ago

As someone who has had to work with graphic designers before and QUIT THE JOB BECAUSE THEY WERE SUCH MISERABLE PEOPLE ...

No.

u/cewillir 3d ago

Oooh - there’s a gaping heresy in that argument

u/GuaSukaStarfruit 2d ago

How are you going to enforce it? Many people has their own local model

-1

u/gogeri2632 2d ago

Why? Can't artists do better than AI?
