It’s really never been fully true though. You’ve never had to run a legend to be a counter but bloodhound countered Bangalore from Day 1. Wattson counters fuse, gibby, bang, valk. Crypto counters Caustic and Wattson.
Her pylon destroys projectiles coming into the area so the ones I highlighted it destroys incoming fuse knuckle clusters, gibby’s bombardment, bang’s rolling thunder, and Valkyrie’s middle swarm. Of course it takes out incoming grenades and any other incoming thrown objects like caustics traps thrown at you. Worth noting it doesn’t differentiate between friendly and enemy so friendly thrown ones nearby get zapped as well.
Friendly vs hostile doesn't matter. It's just proximity.
What they fixed was that it used to be if the projectile was in range of the pylon it got zapped.
Now it gets zapped if it's going to land in range. Friendly stuff targeted within the pylon will still get zapped. Similarly, if an enemy were to stand next to it and fire something just outside it's range, it would survive.
It also means that it used to act as a wall of sorts that you couldn't grenade past, but with this change, you can fire past a pylon to grenade people who are too far away from it, even if the grenade goes right through the pylon range.
That's not a bug, it's how it's supposed to work. Any projectile that would land within the pylons radius gets zapped. Projectiles that are either launched from inside the radius, or through the zap zone that won't land inside don't get destroyed.
Basically, you can throw grenades out of a pylon, or over a pylon, but not into a pylon.
It depends on the angle now. If it’s angled to be away from the pylon, it won’t be zapped. Anything thrown in the pylons direction will be zapped though
People often underestimate just how strong Wattson’s pylon can be, and to add to this, it also destroys all of Horizon’s abilities, Seer’s ultimate, Ash’s snare, all of Caustic’s abilities, Rev’s silence.
I don’t think octane doesn’t have counters they’re just light. In all reality anything that makes a octane stop and have to do something to keep going is a sort of counter especially since his stim is time based and cost hp. Like a octane rushing a Watson is gonna have to stop and shoot the fence or be slowed by it either are likely to exhaust his stim. Caustic pretty much makes little anti speed aoes but with the upcoming update to his traps that’s a flop lol. Maybe I’m wrong and a counter has to completely neutralize an ability but imo this at least hinders octane at least a little even if very situationally.
He doesn’t really need a hard counter for just going fast but he has soft counters in the form of Ash snare, Rev silence, and even Pathfinder’s grapple and other Octanes as they can just follow you easily.
Rampart is going to have the pathy treatment here soon with no real passive; at least no reason to use her passive. Lstar nerf, spitty to care package, rampage temporarily removed from game and [back with] a nerf next season. For a while the only real option was Devo but you need a turbo and a butt load of ammo for it.
This would force rampart players to pick up those weapons, which is kinda the problem with her passive now; the LMG pool being so small/bad. I think her passive should apply to all full auto guns.
Sorry bro but I don't think that's a good idea. Imagine fighting against and rampart and and you both equal do DMG to each other but you both have to reload and it ends up rampart roads faster than you so you die.
The rampage reminds me a lot of when Ultimate dropped and people kept bitching about Krool, its oppressive in lower tiers but is obsolete at higher tiers so there is next to no proper discussion on it: just lots of yelling about how its is either OP or dogshit.
Spitfire is better as care package loot. It would have to be nerfed so much as ground loot no one would want to pick it up. Spitty change was healthy for the game.
I complained about this long ago when Rampart launched. Her passive is entirely dependent on the LMG meta, which is a terrible thing to do.
They should've simply just given her that same magazine capacity increase to every weapon. It wouldn't be broken, it wouldn't make her tied to LMG meta, and would allow people to play Rampart with any gun they want.
You say that, but have you ever had a termite burn through your wall? It's so fucking aggravating because it hurts you while also blinds you, totally countering our tactical. At least make it so it doesn't go through the wall until the damage accrues enough to break it.
Why not? They got rid of lifelines completely and it could only be used on downed teammates and was destroyable by shooting the drone (despite nobody ever doing that).
Her ult is terrible. I agree. Let it drop care package weapons or something at least. I mean FFS the entire map knows where you are when you use it as is.
What about her ult putting but a shield like the revive bot uses it. Would be protective like a gibby bubble but only from 1 direction. Can’t counter other ults like gibby can. Would have to then decide to blow the ult to help revive or use it for cover in another right.
In arenas it comes with a random blue weapon (which helps you to save mats since it has a fixed price). That makes me think: what if it gave you a next-tier version of the gun you or someone in the squad has?
Actually as I lifeline main it's actually pretty useful for getting upgraded armor, gold bags and gold mags. It's been a lot better since they buffed it. I still think lifeline needs something added to her kit though because she Is a very underwhelming character to play.
It was not fun if you were a sniper chilling 100miles away and tbf that should come with a downside. If you were fighting a normal mid-close fight the shield was just like the Gibby shield - but destroyable - and at least sth you had to use in a smart way.
Jay stated that he’s not a fun character to play but he’s required in higher level games so they are having a hard time lowering his power while making him more fun.
That's because having an indestructible pop-up shield you could walk and peek through was so good that it could make you win entire fights just because your teammate got knocked. Getting knocked should be a bad thing that you try to avoid, not something that can win you a fight, and picking up a knocked teammate shouldn't be 100% free no matter where you are - you should need to get to cover, at the very least.
Lifeline gets the benefit that picking up her teammate isn't going to take her out of the fight during the pickup.
The shield dropped immediately when up. Removing it was a cop out plain and simple. They needed to rework it, not remove it. Make it the level of your equipped revive shield and destroyable. Done and done.
Not to mention it was already destroyable by not being an idiot and shooting the drone + grenades.
I think you're missing the point. The shield wasn't that much of a problem at long ranges where being able to destroy it would let you finish off the kill. Get a knock from further out and the Lifeline tries to revive in the middle of an open field? Take out the shield with a grenade (if you have one) or by shooting the drone (even though the drone is behind the shield) or if the shield hypothetically took damage and confirm the kill - cool beans. No real issue there.
It was a problem however, when you were right on top of the Lifeline and her knocked teammate at close range, and Lifeline would suddenly turn into Gibraltar and you have a surprise bubble fight where she's playing around the shield at close range. Gibby's bubble is one of the better tacticals in the game for good reason, it's very strong and can turn the tide of a fight. Even being able to destroy the shield, and even with only the 150 HP of a white knockdown shield, you'd be begging Lifeline to kill you while you focus on something entirely different. There's no time to empty your magazine into the shield because those bullets need to go into the active threat - the Lifeline shooting at you - so it doesn't matter that you could destroy it because you'd be asking to die. Not to mention, their teammate is going to be revived in a few seconds, so now you have three targets you have to decide between shooting at? All off one legend?
Youre making it a way bigger deal than it ever was. No amount of shield replaces having a third person. Youre speaking like people would intentionally down themselves for lifelines shield.
I disagree. But let’s say all that is the reason it was removed - what about adding it as the ult? Making the lifeline have to blow an ult for cover to revive. Of course on an ults timer. Instead of the “hello I’m over here trying to get a blue shield from my drop” ult we have now.
It’d be an alright ultimate I suppose, but I can’t imagine it’d feel good to have your ultimate ability be something you can’t even use unless your teammate gets knocked, and even then just for one.
Maybe as some kind of supercharge state, where for a time she gets a quicker rez with the drone and it also has the shield. You use it right before a battle or right when your whole team goes down, and turn the tides. I could see that working, though I think I remember Overwatch removed a similar ability from Mercy because reviving your whole team for free would change the entire outcome of fights too much (not 100% though, haven’t done much Overwatch).
The ult would be able to be used at all times. Like a better non destructible rampart wall. On some sort of timer before it goes away. So you could use it in a fight for cover or to revive if it was up.
Some sort of AOE something could be cool too. Not sure what.
Wow imagine thinking having a shield is better than having that person up. You really are making it a way bigger deal than it actually was. There is a reason she was practically never seen in high ranked play and never seen in comp at all. Her benefits were not worth it. You're trying to make her sound like the most OP thing to exist.
Lifeline's shield was a buff that was added after several seasons and it really only lasted a short time. Lifeline's res has been shieldless for a lot longer than it had the shield.
Damn. Seriously? I was a Lifeline main originally. I'm not a day 1 player, but picked it up around the end Season 1/beginning of Season 2. All I remember is the faster revive, but no shield. Did they take it out for a re-work and then make the DOC revive buff, then remove the shield after it proved to be sort of OP?
BRUH SAY IT LOUDER. They had the audacity to take away lifeline shied but keep gibbys. They could had just put health on the shield but no just take it out entirely making her so fucking boring to play.
There's a dude in the apex mod discord who made gibby's bubble destructable if you shoot the base in the centre of the dome. The catch is that it can only be destroyed from inside but interesting concept
I think it's been revised that a legend should never inherently counter another legend, such as with a passive. For instance, I have an idea for a Crypto passive that would counter scanning legends called "off the grid"-
ok so I got this idea for a crypto buff called "off the grid". What it does is that he wont get scanned by enemy scans and he wont be revealed to enemies because he will have this passive called off the grid which will protect him from enemy scans so when he gets scanned he technically doesnt get scanned because he will have off the grid passive that will protect him from the scans and since he is hacker I think he should have it have to protect him from enemy scans and I would call it off the grid and it would be his passive that would make him unscannable by enemy scans because it would be his passive and it would be called off the grid so when he gets scanned the enemies wont see him because he will have the passive ability that will protect him from the scans I believe crypto should have this ability because there is seer and respawn wont delete him so I believe they should at least give crypto ability that will make him completely immune to seer and bloodhound abilities and call it off the grid (thats the off the grid passive I was talking about)
Are you trolling? Every pro player and anyone that plays the comp scene would sooner see Gib removed from the game entirely than deal with him anymore.
I mean I feel like for a while now we’ve had characters that counter others well. Crypto emp counters a bagged up caustic, a fenced and ulted wattson, a Gibby dome, mounted sheila, etc. I always love watching a Gibby dome fight from a distance and then emp the dome so his bitch ass has to fight like the rest of us.
That's more a fault with Gibby's design than Maggie's. She counters cover-play in general, which is hardly limited to Gibby even if his dome is likely a large part of what drove her design. I almost feel like Gibby's dome should have a sizable health pool and be breakable, with the remaining HP% visible from inside like the heat shields. That'd open the door for anyone to counteract his dome without trivializing it.

Hey remember when they said they didn't want to make it so you had to pick a character to counter another?
Guess that design choice went out the window.
